So all roads lead to Celtic Park on Saturday. I imagine we will not have that big a following due to the facts that

(a) The Parkhead experience is not everyones cuppa tea.
(b) the price and amount of restricted view tickets.
(c) Lack of expectation.

I plan to go to each ground at least once but most, both times, but for me I think this will be my one visit to Celtic Park. Mrs Ghost has never had the pleasure of a visit to the East End so that's as good a reason as any to go this time but unless we are run away league leaders( oh please:laugh:) I don't think I will go back later in the campaign.

To the game...

I know there is always the chance of an upset and I am not giving up on that happening but realistically a draw is probably the best we could hope for. We have done well against them before but if we are to get anything out of this we will have to take our A+ game to Weegieville. This is the SPL though and we knew it was never gonna be all fun and winning, so whatever the outcome, I hope Saints go there and at least compete and do themselves justice. Those of us present must ( and I'm sure will ) get right behind the boys.

Team wise I imagine we might go 4-5-1 but only Del knows how positive he is gonna be..

I'd go.

Main(Tempted to say Smith but I think he is still injured)

Irvine, Caff, Gartland, Grainger.

Morais,Hardie,Morris,Davidson,Craig

Samuel

Subs.McLean,Swankie,MacKay,Sheerin,Deuchar, Lindsay, Reynolds..

I am assuming that injured are..

Mooner, Rusty, Jacko, Peaso, Smith, and Millar.

No place for Savo and Ando....

Tough on Savo but if we do go with a 5 man midfield we need cover with at least 2 midfielders on the bench and bearing in mind with Reynolds and Doc on the bench already we are cover up front..

Thoughts please.:D

Cannot wait, first time at Parkhead to see a league game, been to a couple of cup games in "that season", namely the league cup final and scottish cup semi.

I imagine we will see a 4-5-1 formation, although Del would call it a 4-3-3. This is what I think were gonna get..

Main
Mackay Caff Gartland Grainger
Morais Muzz Morris Craig Samuel
Deuchar

McLean, Irvine, Lindsay, Sheerin, Hardie, Savo, May

cant be too optimistic about coming away with points, but do expect a good, solid performance from the lads and would be disappointed if we lost by more than a single goal.

You cannae drop Savo. Heagney seems to be first pick of the weans. Johnny shouldn't be on the bench as we play 'Well U19s on Saturday. It appears that Mackay is first pick at right back:confused:

Why the feck are you tempted to play Smith?

I thought Johnny was on the bench on Saturday???( I must have misheard Kevin doing he team lines as I see it was Heagney. Is he a forward?) MacKay started on Saturday but I think Irvine should start at CP.. As ever, only my opinions 101. Not likely to be anything near correct. ( I rarely am:oops:)

Relax big man, I wisnae having a go, merely questioning your logic.

Heagney is decsribed as a forward. I've only seen him in one game and he played wide right, though he clearly isn't a wide player. Looks a good wee player and appears to be the favoured one of the bairns. Stevie May remains mine, though wee Matty looked good at Newburgh.

I fully agree that Irvine should start at Parkhead mainly because I think he should start all games. However, Mackay has been listed as first pick and unless that's because of Irvine's ankle troubles, Del is making a big mistake.

Thoughts please.:DI like it Ghost. Be more inclined to go with Savo on the bench ahead of the good doctor. If Sammy runs himself into the ground for 60 mins, I just dont think Kenny could come on and do the same.

Main must start though, no question.

Wouldnt surprise me if its same again though for teamlines.

I have absolutely no expectations for the game. Other than 100% committment from everyone on show, and if they have an off-day, who knows.

I'd rather we get pumped giving it a real go rather than stuffy 1-0'defeat with the backs against the wall, we should go without fear and be high in confidence.

They are not unbeatable and we should go for them from the off, we will need to pressure the ball quickly and not allow them any time, we must push out a bit more and not sit as deep

we must keep hold of the ball when we get it, for that reason I would start the burnley line up with Irvine in place of mackay if fit

Irvine Caff Garts Grainger

subs - McLean Mackay Hardie Savo Heagney Reynolds Sheerin

del will prob pick Mackay but unless Irvine is injured i'd go with him esp. since he'll relish the challenge at Parkhead.
A good strong mid with the 2wingers supporting the fwd.
i picked the doc cause his height will cause lots of damage tho Savo can play the lone striking role too.

I actually think Saints will do well on Saturday.

For one the game was played at a frantic pace last night, and I think that Celtic will have this in their legs as they were chasing the ball all night.

I think Saturdays game will be a slower pace, but if I was the boss, I would take a leaf out of Arsenals book and press them all over the park on their first touch.

Also the players would be under strict instructions to keep it extremely simple for the first 20-30mins, and let the crowd get restless, because on the back of last night it wont take much to upset the natives.

I honestly believe that Saints can get a result on Saturday

Mike180279
19-08-2009, 09:11 AM
Celtic despite all their efforts are a poor poor side in comparison. Only really McGeady looked like he could do anything, Arsenal seemed to be on them as soon as they got the ball. I dont think it was so much of pressing, I just think that their football brains were one step ahead of celtic who, to them, were very transparent. Arsenal dont normally press like that I think they just found the game easy.........

Anyway, I think you are right. If we dont let them settle, it will certainly make Celtic nervous. McDonald and Fortune are very clearly not on the same page as each other. It is obviously still a massive task, but we shouldnt hold any fears......

I'll bet Del will use Burnley's result as an inspiration. Shows anything can happen in fitba. We beat Burnley who beat Man U who would wipe the floor with Sellic. Surely an easy away win !

...aim all cross balls a yard away from Caldwell...

Caldwell will syth down anything within a metre of him, so play it in to Savo's feet and we're bound to win a penalty.

Sammy's a bit of a headless chicken and he's not as clever on the ball as the likes of Peaso. If Peaso's fit then we should play him through the middle and let him try and win fouls the way Scott McDonald does.

Despite the threat of the Calton Crusaders, it'll be good to be back in the big time on Saturday. Have enjoyed the trips to Dingwall, Dumfries etc... in the last few years but after seven seasons in the First Division, it's no bad thing to be heading back to some old haunts.

Seems like it's gonna be a bit of a job just getting to the game but hopefully we just do ourselves justice and then we can focus on Hearts. A bit defeatist but we won't take anything from the match and if Celtic click then it could be a heavy loss. I think McInnes' 4-3-3/4-5-1 gives us a bit of scope for threatening them but also beefs us up in midfield. Assuming Millar isn't available, Sheerin and Hardie offer different qualties but I think he'll go with the physical offering of the latter, with Samuel up front on his own.

Word on the street, as Aitchy would say, is that we've only shifted around 400-500 tickets so hopefully everyone will be able to get a decent view and at the same time there will be a decent atmosphere amongst the Jody Morris Loyal in the away end, even allowing for the stewards, who are meant to be dreadful.

Also, you never need an excuse to show this video...

I think that is vital. get Sammy running at Gary Chuckle. They dont have a great deal of pace at the back. With Savo and the Doc's dodgy first touch anything played into them is likely to come straight back. Over the top and get them turning. Sammy and Fil could have some fun if we get enough of the ball

We need Morris to step into the game and control the supply of possession in the middle of the park. I also disagree with the way Del has lined up, and I did so straight from the start. It's pointless going to Parkhead with a defensive strategy. Attack and try and take something from the game.

i agree with that - we always seem very narrow at the back which gives them space in the wide positions - del needs to plug that hole up

we`ve got to tighten up at the back and not give the ball away to cheaply in midfield. Celtic are shite an there wont be a better opportunity to take something off them

Time to regroup.A very open game even with the formation we have.I wonder if del will change it.Hamilton/Falkirk getting humped again can only be good for us.Glad to see us bouncing back after going 2 down.Too many times been in Glasgow, start losing a couple of goals and the heads go down.Come on SSSSSSSAAAAIIIINNNNTTTTSSSS

Morris has put on a decent show, too.

He is playing very well and looks totally at home in that company.

Certainly getting done down the flanks. I suspect thats why he tried to double up on the right but to be fair - neither of them are having a particulary good game.

Yeah Morris has been good, hopefully Davidson can shine in the 2nd half as we rip through Mr Caldwell at the back!!

That Looverns* seems a bit iffy at the back as well...

Don't think it's fair to say they're shite! Granted they're not world beaters but Fox and Maloney are tearing us a new one and Scott Brown is back to his best. That said, we have offered a lot and should be really proud of performance so far. Morris, Samuel and Morais all looking good. Irvine looks way out of it though. No reason we can't go sneak a draw but we'll need to put shackles on Maloney.

Can see Irvine being either swapped with MacKay or hooked.

Fife Saint?

Nowhere, I've been about.

Maloney just hit the post. Got lucky there. Our defensive line is going to shit whenever Celtic start moving forward. It opens up wider than...*insert analogy here*

Yeah.

We need to get on top of Caldwell. Get him under pressure and take it from there. Which CB do they have on the bench?

Can't see him doing a Norway on us, to be honest.

Sammy's doing a great job but I think we've got more chance of sneaking another if we stick another forward on.

Uh-huh. Shit.

Another problem is our midfield diving into challenges and getting caught. Celtic are just spinning round us. Embarrassing. Rule number 1, keep goal side and don't get caught.

Welcome back to the SPL, lets face it any results against the OF are a bonus to most teams. Its how we fair against the rest that will dictate how we get on this season.
