BH still isn't running smoothly, but it should be a lot better within the next few days. Just keep trying. If anyone already has a PayPal account and wants to donate without going through the BH process, the ID account to donate to is saintkev76@hotmail.com

Has Tony Higgins been on Scotsport?
Is he the really ugly guy with glasses that is Glaswegian and his voice is really nasally??

Yes and no!
Higgins has probably appeared on Scotsport (SPL anyway) and sometimes does the BBC Scotland football shows too. He does have glasses but the guy you are thinking of is Tony (Anthony) Haggerty, a journalist with the Daily Record I think.
This is Tony Higgins...

The following press release has been sent to all local media outlets...
Drew Rutherford Tribute Night
When St Johnstone Supporters learnt that former Captain and record appearance holder with close on 350, Drew Rutherford had been stricken with incurable pancreatic cancer, they felt compelled to aid their hero. After making contact with the family it was agreed to jointly raise funds for Drew and his family and for Downs Syndrome Scotland, a condition, which one of Drew's sons was born with.
To this end an event was planned by fans of the club where Drew played for 8 seasons from 1977 onwards. A tribute night is taking place on the 3rd December in the 208 Bar, Crieff Road, Perth, starting at 7.00 for 7.30pm. The night will be in the form of a race night, disco and prize raffle and the event is being kindly sponsored by M&S Accountancy and Taxation Services, Dunfermline.
The event is open to anyone, and fans of St Johnstone are welcome to sport an older style top to mark what promises to be a nostalgic night, as former St Johnstone representatives; Alex Caldwell, Alex Rennie, Andy Brannigan, Dennis Lawson, George Fleming, Ian Gibson, Johnny Brogan, John Pelosi, Lyndsey Muir, Mickey Lawson and Tam McNeil, along with some of the current players and officials have committed to attend the night.
If anyone would like more information or would like to make a donation for the raffle or a cash donation, please contact Kev Heller on 07921 157337. Tickets for the raffle will also be on sale after the St Johnstone game versus Stranraer on Saturday 26th November in the 208 Bar.

A lady who emailed me the other day paid tribute to Drew...hope she doesn't mind me posting this up!
Hi Hazel,
i am saddened to hear about Drew, a true gentleman and one of the good guys in society.
my name is karen mcgowan i had the pleasure of working with Drew as a prison officer for over 10 years. i left the service in april, and at the time he was off sick from work and therefore did not know the severe outcome of his sickness. I have just read about it in the newspapers and i have been frantically on the internet reading sites that have given me a more indepth insight into Drews plight.
i was brought to tears on reading your visit to him in hospital, i just cannot imagine him being ill....
he will leave behind a very handsome and gorgeous family and very proud colleagues.
Drew helped me through a very difficult situation in the prison service in June 1998 when i found a prisoner hanging in his cell. Drew was magnificent in his caring and at times humour to myself.
He was there for me and my family for over a year right up to the Fatal Accident Enquiry. he was one of the funniest men that i have had the pleasure of knowing and not a bad footballer even in his older years....
i will not miss your night for him on the 3rd december.
you like me will agree it is a pleasure knowing such a gent and he will be sadly missed.
thank you for your time
karen

Just to reiterate, this night is this Saturday and we reckon the place is going to be stowed out so get there early to avoid disapointment. There's a rake of old heros and there should be some current ones too getting involved, and it promises to be a nostalgic and very probably a tad emotional night.
There is a massive list of prizes for the raffle and some that are just too good to give away as such so there will be a wee auction. It should be a crackin night.
I saw Drew last night with Bear and Storm from here and he's really struggling with the illness, but was still in good spirits and still very keen for us to pass on just how grateful and overwhelmed he is by all this going on in his honour. Well done everyone who's contributed in anyway.
Before we get to it though, I have to give a few folk recognition. Erchie and others (too many to mention) have worked hard to sell horses, raffle tickets etc and assist in loads of ways, but there are another couple who deserve an extra mention. I know my name has appeared in the media so it appears that I'm doing a lot, but Hazel has worked tirelessly on getting a stunning array of prizes despite having never been involved in anything like this and deserves to have a great night (especially as it is her 18th!!) and it's just a pity that we'll not be able to make a massive deal of the raffle due to time, but well done lassie! The other is Bear (and the ever suffering Soccer Chic  ) who was telling me about his phone bill last night  . He's done an amazing amount of work on getting some more incredible prizes and getting basiaclly a who's who of St Johnstone to turn up and make the night all that more special. Again, Bear's never done anything like this but has certainly come up trumps... well done the big-man, hopefully he can relax a wee bit now (until the waxing that is :***: )

Yup,
Will second that - an amazing amount of work was put in by everyone involved - and I think Bear actually managed to enjoy himself once he relaxed.
Thanks a million for letting me be a part of something that will always be with me.

I am shattered!!!!!!
Great night - especially the end being one of the last ones to leave and John Pelosi telling us some stories!
Thanks to everyone involved. I couldn't have had a better night. Really enjoyed myself.
We more than doubled what we expected to make - delighted. And i hope the family are up so we can present them with a cheque next week.
As i said to the family: It was our pleasure to organise this for Drew.
Although the reasoning behind the event was one of great sadness, it was a great success and an absolutely fantastic night, right up until the last song of the disco when there was only a few of us left! :D
Well done awbuddy!

What a great day , a long day for those who were there from 10am till the end , what ever time that was ! :***: but well worth it
Bear I have nothing but admiration for everything you did in the last month to make this such a sucess. You have driven 100's of miles and no doubt spent hours on this and the 3750 total is a testimant to this
Kev you like Bear have done 101's differnet things in the lead up to last night. Thanks for comparing the evening which cannot have been easy with so many in the room, putting the programme together and all the PR work you did
Erchie and Bear, hows yer chests . The pictures are being uploaded as I type :***:
Hazel I don't think thats the 17th birthday you had planned a few months ago but I am sure you had a night to remember. The quality of the prizes for the raffle was superb
To everyone else who played a part selling races and getting people there, looking after them well done
Last night was the sort of night that makes me proud to be a Saints fan. We were looking after one of our own and unlike at bigger clubs everyone could play their part. The players from the 82/83 team certainly appreciated the support that was given to them. It was also great to see so many of the old faces.
In some ways it was a sad night as well but I am sure the night will have meant so much to Drew and his family. As Owen Coyle said last night service like Drews does not happen a lot in modern football so it was very appropriate to do what we did last nigh.

Just to add my thanks and congratulations to all involved. A storming night, involving a lot of laughs and a fair few tears... I know all the players took the time to speak to Drew via Margaret's Mobile and I'm sure he really enjoyed that, so it's been a massive success in the cash raised, the enjoyable night, bringing old friends together, showing the potential Saints fans have to make something special, showing how we look after our own and giving Drew and his family a big boost in such a hard time.
And to end this... Sammy Johnston... as many of you know, he's a god in my eyes, and the night only strenthened my view of him... quality!
Great night, well done to all concerned. Is there going to be a list of who won what at the raffle posted or are winners just going to be conatcted in time.

Winners will be contacted... and off the top of my head, I have no idea who they are, was slightly run of my feet!
Also, the funds will be presented in the future, when we have found a time that suits the family. Might not be quite as soon as Hazel suggests.

Just to say "Real Madrid" has put it into words perfectly.
A sad but truly great night to be a Saintee.

An e-mail from a Saintee and friend of Drew's...
Kev,
Just a small (or maybe not) note to express my gratitude and admiration to yourself and all that worked tirelessly and unselfishly in organising last Saturday night's event for Drew and his family, for something that was pulled together so rapidly it was an outstanding success delivered with sympathy and consideration.
The only thing that could have added to the occasion would have been the presence of the Big man himself, I would have loved to seen the look on his face when he seen the adulation that Saints fans hold for him (it would have blown him away) It was also great to be in the same room as former and current Saints and also so many fellow Saints supporter sharing the occasion.
I'm just off to phone the Big Man to book in for a visit this week hopefully.
In closing it was nice to put a face to the name, I've asked my wife to look out the away top similar to Drew's top that you were wearing on Saturday as I would like you to have it to use as a back up as no doubt Drew's top will soar in value to you personally due to current circumstances.
It's time for you and your conspirators to shine up your halos and bask in every ounce of credit that comes your way!
Best Regards
Duncan

Well done to all who organised the night.
You did a great job & raised a awesome amount of dosh, although no amout of money can compensate Drew & his family for what they are going through at the moment.
To me the night was more to do with all Saints fans showing the respect & affection in which they held a Saints legend & a guy who never gave less than 110% even in reserve games.

I've just been in to see Drew and Margaret tonight.
I can only say that they are overwhelmed at the response and the amazing success of the night.
The phrase I keep hearing is "We didn't think anyone would remember Drew".
For those of you that don't know, the players all recorded a video message to Drew on the night - for those of us that were present, it was a very, very moving experience.
Thanks go out to all who made the night a success. For me, personally, it was the most memorable night of my life.
If anyone present has photographs/video/ any memento's of the night, could you please get in touch with Bear/SaintKev/Hazel/Erchie or myself - we are particularly looking for anyone who has video of the opening speeches by Alex Rennie/Owen Coyle and Lindsay Muir's thank you speech.
Your help is much appreciated.
Graeme
