On the rare occasions that I have to visit the PRI, I am always impressed at how lovely and clean to the naked eye this hospital is. The staff are always really friendly and the A&E dept with its panoramic views over the city is really great. When you visit some other hospitals in Britain, it makes you realise how lucky Perth is. Let's hope it never gets closed down.

I was up at Aberdeen Hospital last week as my youngest was in for an OP. This is worlds apart from Perth.

Childrens entertainers, playstations, PPV TV, Internet by bedside. Wish Perth had been like that when I was younger.

That's a new build. The whole ARI site is gradually being replaced with new buildings but it will still be a disjointed site when complete.

I don't think you get penile extensions on the NHS unless one is really psychologically disturbed about their small size.

Obviously you've not been to PRI a lot, I've spent a lot of time in PRI and Ninewells over the past few years and Ninewells is far superior to PRI, when it comes to being clean, I've also found the staff at Ninewells to be much more friendly than the PRI, going back to the cleaning, the only time I've ever seen a floor swept with a wet mop was in the PRI, disgusting

Next time in Ninewells trying lifting your eyes above head height and see the cobwebs etc - is it not Ninewells that has had constant problems with wards having to be closed down due to constant re-infections?

Most hospitals have wards closed, the PRI has just reopened a ward, I spent 2 weeks in HDU in Ninewells last year with not much else to do apart from look at the walls, and that was spotless.

Pri is not bad, friendly enough staff but i was there a few weeks back visiting my granny who was in a room with 5 others, no tv for them but yet some scummy junkie in a side room had one to herself and all her and her mate were worried about were aruging with staff - scum.

Can't speak for Ninewells - never been. But anytime I've been to the PRI I've been happy with it. I'm just grateful.

My dad was in both Ninewells and PRI last summer and Ninewells was much better. I found Perth completely overcrowded, understaffed and the staff were completely harrassed and unhelpful as a result. Ninewells was very relaxing in comparison and had so many staff they could've spared Perth some. Dad preferred Ninewells himself and did not speak highly of the staff in PRI at all.

Would agree with you on the above there. My sister was pretty ill coming up for a year ago, and while the care she had was more attentive by the fact she was just 17 and in Intensive Care and the Corinary Care Unit the nurses and doctors were excellent, and have been on her checkups since.

It is just a shame that the maternity ward has more or less closed down. Also, it would make more sense for there to be a trauma team at Perth instead of having to come from ninewells to the fairly large number of A9 accidents (which is why Tayside Fire & Rescue got a Heavy Lifting Unit for Perth) and then take them back to ninewells. Would make more sense if they could be treated at PRI. But thats just the cost cutting / centralisation over the last few years with the NHS.

Ha Ha. I am intrigued with this insistence that I am 25e or Tatlock, etc. What is the story with this? Care to elaborate.?

Well I can assure you that I am not this 25e character or Tatlock. Just ask O'Rourke or pm me. In actual fact it is getting a bit tiresome with all the wind ups. etc from the likes of Bobby Kemp etc.

I know no offence is given but it does get a bit tedious.

Cheers

I think it's stupid to compare PRI with Ninewells. The only reason PRI is still open is due to politics. It's no more than a token gesture and a nod to Perth's once great status which has sadly been lost. If you are being born, are seriously ill or are having surgery you'd be much better off at Ninewells.

The maternity unit at PRI is now only midwife lead, which means if something goes wrong and the mother needs an emergency section its off in an ambulance to Ninewells.

I had the misfortune of spending over an hour today in the out of hours area of PRI. The waiting area was crawling with ants.

Is that in comparison with Ninewells which was reported last August in the Courier as having the highest death rate from c-diff in Scotland?

I went to PRI for a chest x-ray today with a letter from my GP. I was seen straight away and out within half an hour. I was prepared to be there for much longer so I was impressed.

I have a hearing problem and can't speak highly enough of the audiologists and their department.:D

Very happy with my treatment and with the help of an NHS hearing aid can now hear what Husband and bairns are saying to me without having to ask them 3 or 4 times or read their lips!

Staff were really helpful during my others halfs difficult and lengthy labour, ended up in Ninewells where they were also very helpful.

I was admitted for a week last year when I contracted meningitis and the staff were fantastic. Was a real eye opener having to stay in, one knobber was admitted with severe chest pains but checked himself out because he didnt want to wait for the specialist. The nurse was really blunt and firm with him saying that by all means they couldn;t force him to stay but that he was having severe chest pains and if he walked out that door then they were not going to be held responsible for what might happen. The blokes wife started chipping in too saying that he was just leaving as they had been waiting about 20mins for the specialist. He ended up leaving right enough but I gave that nurse a thank you for being so helpfull to me and the other patients in my ward. Bit of a thankless task at times for them when so many patients and there relatives think they know better

was the viral type and not the bacterial which is the real killer. Still knocked me for six for a couple of months though!

All thanks to my other half I was diagnosed though, I was convinced it was just a really bad a migraine and was gonna try and sleep it off!

Women always know best, she still reminds me of it to this day
