Thank God for Thatcher! The vast majority of the homes in North Muirton are now owner-occupied thanks to Maggie's flagship Right-To-Buy policy. It is therefore very unlikely to be an area of social deprivation like Hunters was. When people own something they are far more likely to look after it.

Yeah, but surely it's better to make childish and ill-informed remarks against a scheme and by extension a decent contributor?

That's classic SingaboreSaint. I'd like to think you cringe reading back most of your utterances but probably not.
Though my comment was tounge in cheek, it is not unknown for perfectly respectable housing schemes to, with times and social change, become areas of deprivation. The cities of New York and Glasgow having classic examples. I maybe wrong but my understanding was that old Muirton was a very respectable neighbourhood when it was first built and we all know what it was like towards the end. Someone did make the intelligent point of private home ownership and therefore why it wouldnt happen in North Muirton, thank goodness there is a modicum of common sense on here. Unfortunately some others have huge chips on their shoulders. And Ghostie..thanks for your invite and though I know you are an abstainer, I hope the drinks cabinet is well stocked
all the best selling it before the esate agents rip you off!

In all honesty there is not a particularly bad area in Perth at all, in comparison with many other, even smaller towns in Scotland.
You want to take a look down Levenmouth area, parts of Falkirk even bits of Forfar to see deprivedvhousing areas.
We are lucky in Perth that the majority of our 'social housing' was built in the way it was.
Having lived in Letham for 20 odd years i loved it, and now that i am in North Muirton i would say its even quieter, though i do agree that its lacking a wee bit of soul. The only reason for that though is that its not a traditional scheme.

I agree with the assertion that Perth doesn't have many truly bad areas. I think we are quite lucky here. I work in a place that has some really lovely parts but some of the worst places I've ever seen - and plenty of the notorious Haney clan living in these areas. I am shocked on a daily basis by some of the things I see and hear and my eyes have been well and truly opened to a whole different section of society.
If Honest Saints Fan genuinely thinks North Muirton is comparable to some of the worst schemes in Scotland then that's just pretty ignorant. Thinking you may not want to live in a certain place is a bit different to somewhere just being a 'complete dump'. I know people who live in North Muirton who have really good jobs and lifestyles. I am sure they would take exception to the place they live being described as a complete dump. Naturally it'll have it's share of the slightly less desirable sort, but most places tend to.
There are places in Perth I wouldn't choose to live but sometimes people don't get that choice. Like any place there are less desirable areas in Perth but I don't think we have anything that even remotely resembles the sort of housing estates highlighted on 'The Scheme' and we should be happy about that.

I didn't once compare it to some of the "worst" schemes in Scotland! Oooo wow a few nice people stay there, nice people stay in every scheme, doesn't take away from how much of a dump it is.
Perth is quicky becoming an undesirable place to live in! It's full of neds and jakies. In the 10 years I've lived in this area, Perth has rapidly went downhill.

What, because someone on here said something you don't agree with? The whole point of a forum is for debate. If someone says something you don't agree with, prove them wrong. We will intervene if it gets personally abusive or crosses a line.
Get a grip Jamie. I have seen plenty of posts getting very personal and abusive but nothing ever happens, including myself.
I also don't need to prove anyone wrong, this sounds like a statement that the forum leader 101 saint would say.

Mikey,
That post of mine is now a bit out of context, at the time people were debating the relative merits of different areas of Perth, and you replied to someone giving an opinion and branded myself and the other mods "shit".
However, things have moved on majorly in this thread and now, as you say, it is out of order. Unfortunately I haven't had time to keep on top of everything here - believe it or not I don't spend all day, every day sitting on here waiting for posts to moderate. Right now I'm working a full-time job, setting up a business, renovating my flat and arranging my wedding - surprisingly I don't have hours on end to referee a frankly pretty pathetic fight on here.
That said, I'm deleting a huge amount of posts on this thread now - the ones that ARE personally abusive.
I would also remind people that if you have a problem with a post on here report it - either PM myself or the other mods listed on the forum, or press the little triangle warning sign icon on the bottom left of each post, and it will flag it up to the moderators.

Brought up in one of those flats, wonderful location close to prime countryside...good local school, quiet, and safe for children to grow up in..... Perth is good in all parts - i would say given the choice of a private area (aka new builds/kinoull hill), or a mixed area (aka scheme) I'd go for the scheme.
Keep it real peoples... St Johnstone was part of Muirton....another good local area not too different to many many of the same sort of others around the UK...

Just a few weeks. Were they hoping for more?
In my day, it was five to a bedroom.
