Spartans away would be absolutley class!!! Wouldn't mind a couple of easy draws then meet Hibs or Hearts away in the quarters!!

Rangers away - easy victory

followed by Partick Thistle away - 4 goals guaranteed!!!

Home tie in the quarters as it gets us a freebie with the season ticket

Then anyone else in the semi's and final - CHAMPIONEES

why do people want Spartans? Is it because people feel thats the easiest draw? I personally think they are a potential bannana skin. or is there another reason.......I'm really hoping for hearts/hibs this season!

ohright fair enough! Where are they playing now, still at the city ground? i was there when they played meadowbank in the scottish few years back, but they were about to knock down their 'stand', there was alot of good banter that game!! :***:

New opponent - would love to play a non-league team as the likelyhood of us playing them again in a competitive fixture is so low. Also a different away adventure to anything else we're likely to come across.

As long as it isn't another first division club I'll be quite happy though.

Rangers at ibrox,

lets hope this year that when we are drawn against a team, that team know the date time and venue of the game on christmans day. Unlike our 3rd round cup oponents last year

Yes they're still at the city ground I think some builder is wanting to buy the ground and give them an area a few hundred yards further back.. I was at that game too, a bizzare sight of seeing Marvin Andrews and Co standing on Ferry Road with the sweat dripping off them waiting for their coach.

Anyway back on topic, a decent away trip would do me fine but to be honest I would take anyone as long as we had a cup run!!

Dundee Utd at Tannadice would be good.
We seem to have a good record there!

January 7th.

Not a bad draw and at least it's at home and a bit different. Was getting a tad worried given that the Paisley mob and various Forces of Darkness/Evil hadn't appeared.

Pity it wasn't Queens Park at Hampden - still I suppose we'll just have to do it the hard way  :D

From the club's point of view, it's a terrible draw. Most of the Saints fans will get in free (first home game in the cup, on their season ticket) - it's hardly a big draw for part-time fans, Gretna will bring about 3 supporters with them and they still get half the gate money!

Saints will probably lose money on it. The way things are at the moment, an away draw at the Old Firm or Hearts would have been great, it could have financed some spending in the transfer window.

And to cap all that off, they're flying at the moment and will be desperate to prove a point themselves, ahead of next season.

IMO I think this game is one of the ties of the round and from a neutrals point of view would be seen a really good to come and watch due to them flying, so hopefully a few of 'couple of games a season brigade' will come out to watch.

I'm actually quite happy with that draw - its against a non-First Division side, we get in for free, it is an opportunity to progress and give some media darlings a beating!

And I would rather have Gretna and a chance of progressing than bloody Celtic!!!

One big positive - Alan Main will be back at McDiarmid. Hopefully he will get an excellent reception. Still one of my favourite players ever!

Chansey
11-12-2005, 02:27 PM
Did he? He wasn't starting for them last season. It might just have been because they were playing a lower league team. I would love him to play on the 7th though!

11-12-2005, 04:41 PM
OC won't need to build the players up for this one - the media will do that for him as they will expect us to get beaten. If anything I would guess that Gretna may be the over confident team in this one. If they are as good as the media think ask yourself a question - how many of their players would you take instead of ours?

You clearly never saw Jordan Tait play...

I think this is a great draw, it gives us a good chance of getting through to the 4th round and it's a game agianst a team we've never played who have a few ex-Saints (Bingham, Irons and Tosh as well as Main). It might not be the best draw finacially but surely an extended run in the cup is better than going out at the first hurdle.
