I don't mind it as long as I hear it in a room with absolutely nobody else nearby, because it really boils my snots when it's playing at a football game or nightclub or whatever, and the bloody public start singing the "Da Da Da" bit a verse too early - surely everyone knows when to come in by now!!
I also think The Procs have got far, far better songs, so it's a bit of a shame that so many people only seem to know them for that one.
P.S. That top 20 "annoying" list should have simply alternated between Williams and U2 songs, then it would have been infinitely more accurate. Give me the Venga Boys over MakeBonoHistory any time.

Where's the Crazy Frog in that list?
Agree that Blobby Williams should be there along with James Blunt, no need for him anyway

I'm fairly sure it's a God rip-off or a Jesus rip-off at the very least...

It is a quality song, a massive hit in Spain and Germany to name a few, it has been the theme of adverts in those countries.
A unique classic love song.
The Americans had never heard of the word "haver" or "havering", that Scottishness in the lyrics makes it appealing to many.
It is undoubtedly one of the greatest sing a longs in history.
When it is sung by the Tartan Army whether at Hampden or abroad in some pub/nightclub it goes down a treat with those who are seeing it performed for the first time. I have no doubt the numerous nightclub DJ's who have got the CD from the TA in Moldova, Belarus, Slovenia and in many more countries play the song regular long after the TA have gone home. Everyone just loves it.
It has made more money for the twins than any of their songs although as BH says, it is not their best, but it certainly is their greatest.

Proclaimers on The ONE Show at the moment. They've just showed a clip of Family Guy, where they sing 500 miles.
They've certainly come a long way.
The Proclaimers must be the all time irritating Scottish band.

No, i'd just rather not follow the crowd and i much prefer to make my own mind up about what i do + do not like in life. Just because they are scottish don't make them good (my opinion by the way).

I remember the late great John Peel was the first to give them air time many years ago when they were a new alternative band. The first time I heard them I liked them but never thought they stood any chance of breaking into the charts due to their "Scottishness."
John Peel championed them as he did with many young hopeful bands and helped set them on their way.
Great band.

Maximo Park's cover of 500 miles is pretty decent. Was for one of the live lounges I think.

its a brilliant song !! its Scotlands unofficial national anthem, its also the ringtone on my fone, whats not to like about it ???
certainly not the boys best song ever but its known worldwide and they must have made a few quid from it - i love Charlie and Craig, they signed a poster for my 2 daughters a few years back at Shepherds Bush, top men the pair of them !!
