Shame the game is being a bit overshadowed by the managerial situation but hopefully the Pars will name someone else tomorrow and we can focus on this.
Huge decisions for Coyle to make. Peaso will work his socks off, is a better finisher and is the man in possession of the jersey but Jason is Jason, our best player and the one guy who feel could do them real damage.
Lawson uses the ball intelligently but let himself get would up against Clyde because of his Celtic connections. McLaren needs a bit of faith shown in him and with Shez you are guaranteed to get someone who won't freeze and would be a good influence on those around him.
I'd go dogs of war in the centre of midfield with Sheridan and Mensing, with Hardie and Sheerin in the wide areas.
Feel sorry for Peaso but Jason has to start in attack IMO.
Halliwell
Lawrie - Anderson - McManus - Stanic
Hardie - Mensing - Sheridan - Sheerin
Scotland - Milne
Subbies: Cuthbert, Lawson, McLaren, MacDonald, Jackson.
Personally I wouldnt have Shez anywhere near the starting eleven. He struggled to keep up with the Partick midfield yesterday, so he'll have no chance up against the Gers. Ill bring Lawson back in, tough tackler great attacking player, and he will be up for it.
Jason in for Peaso im affraid.

Have to agree with this, with Lawsons ability, you cant leave him out its just unquestionable. I would of thought he would be the most fired up player, apart from Scotland, both have points to prove :!:

Scotland up front admiring what is going on at the other end!
Cuthbert and Halliwell between the sticks :***:
got to attack the huns. unsettle them. we need to score first to have any chance. i'd play sheridan

Scotland has to start - I think this is the sort of game he'll relish as he'll be out to impress and will probably work his socks off. I'd probably aim to pack the midfield and go with...

Wonder who Rangers will play? In the last round he didn't start any players that didn't feature in their matches either side of the cup tie so it will probably be a strong side.

why is people leaving lawson out? whats wrong with him?
dont you think he'll want to impress as much as scotland will
Lawson quoted saying that he really wants to impress, he has played once at ibrox and won and would like to keep that record he says.
And also wants to prove things to his celtic manager.

Jason has to come back as he is more likely than Peaso to hurt the H*** defence.

Halliwell
Lawrie Ando Mcmanus Stanic

Peaso
I would go for a 4-3-2-1. Giving enough cover in midfield, as i think mensing would cover for scotland. Meaning we would have two people on the wing who could easily attack rangers, leaving peaso as an out and out striker!!!!!!!! mon the saints. This of course, will never happen!

You said earlier he'd be fired up for this game but was that not the problem against Clyde? Their players were giving him verbals about playing for Celtic (who they knocked out of the Cup) and he reacted. He let himself and the club down against Clyde and we can't afford a similar scenario on Wednesday. IMO there is two guys in the squad (McLaren and Sheridan) who deserve to start ahead of him.
What about Hardie up front as by all reports Rangers are poor on cross balls.
Possible but I think we could focus on good deliver at set pieces and Hardie just getting forward to support when he can. Pace will probably hurt them more. What I would say is Owen needs to be prepared to haul Jason off if he's not gonna track back and work hard; we need to defend from the front.

I think Peaso has definatly got a point to prove as well! He should be given a decent amount of playing time, not sure if he should start, because Milne will do a huge amount of running!
I think our defense might be to slow to cope with rangers pace though.

I too wouldn't have Sheridan anywhere near my starting eleven on Wednesday. He looked off the pace against Partick Thistle, we'd be carrying him against Rangers. He'll never play in the SPL, Lawson has a bright future there. Seems a no brainer to me...

Problem is, Rangers have already got season ticket holders in areas where they can extend the segregated section for away fans. Unless all those who hold season tickets have sent their ticket for Wednesday back to the club, then there is no way they can safely give us more tickets unfortunately. Clyde had the same problem last year when they went to extra time against them.
We probably could have sold another 500 judging by the amount of grief there has been over our allocation.

Ironically the first time I seen Saints at Ibrox I went with a friend and his dad in the bus and it was a midweek game under floodlight. Saints were great that night and we just pushed at them with flowing football. John Connolly was the star and really ran the show changing direction at will. We won 2-0 and he scored both goals.
I think therefore Jason whould return to the team automatically since this degree of skill is required at that level and he could maybe do a Connelly if he gets rapid support from the midfield and Peaso/Milne. To attack Rangers gets the Rangers fans upset and uneasy much more and much earlier than sitting in a shell (re Alex Smith or Bobbyt Williamson) did. If Saints attack and cause them problems from the start then I think with the Rangers fans current mood it could be to our advantage in terms of making the home team moire erratic in their play particularly if we stick together with great team spirit.
Watch the referee, they tend to be swayed by old firm home crowds or indeed old firm away crowds when you think of John O'Neil getting sent off for pointing at his boot in a CIS Quarter Final in extra-time when we were clearly getting the upper hand against Celtic. Roddy got sent off ten minutes later for showing dissent.

Roddy's 2nd yellow was for deliiberate handball as he decided to do a rather obvious impression of maradona, instead using both hands!!!

John, I have no doubt we will observe the minute's silence/appreciation no problem, but we all know there is an element of people at every club who may not observe it because of who or what institution it applies for. Hence why I said I know the vast majority of people will respect it but I know of a few who would be likely not to.

It will be applause, since that's what the Shearer family requested. Rangers confirmed this tonight.
Personally I hate minutes' applause/appreciation, it seems a bit undignified and an excuse to stop neds from interrupting a silence, but you can't go against peoples' wishes...

Strong squad but if we can go in with the same attitude as Motherwell, Inverness and Dundee United (all of whom we would certainly be close to if not beating regularly with our current squad) then I do not see why we can't, at the very worst, make them a little fidgety about progression.

Got a real good feeling about this one, just like I did for the United game. Rangers are very weak at the back and Savo, Peaso and Scotland would give them a real bit of bother me thinks! They know this may be the only piece of silver wear they can get their hands on, so they have to put out a fairly strong side. That said its still crap!!! :***:

Am not taking a stab at anyone and am sure someone has already said this.
But....why are you asking for a ticket now? the game is tomorrow night, not a month away! What happened to you going down to the ticket office and asking for one.
Am sure they didnt sell out in a few hours.
But anyways back to the game its self :***: :***:

Can't see us winning but we will run them close.
What i worry about is it being a rout (they have the players capable of doing this despite the dodgy form) and it demoralising the players somewhat. Particularly as we seem to be going in to the game with a shout.

ive got a tenner riding on the match at 11/1 and after saterdays and sundays matches respectivly i believe i should be collecting my cash after a tight saints win, especially if savo and jason start. Although credit to peaso, hes making space, id like to see him last 15 minutes, if were not winning by that point of course :)

True - if I think about it the doubts settle in. But we won't have a better chance going into this one and hopefully the negativity some managers have shown in cup-ties against the OF where it's a damage limitation exercise from kick-off won't be present tonight.
After the Bairns win last night it seems like it'll take a miracle to see both halves of the Bigot Bros knocked out in the one week at home - but miracles can happen and right now I'm savouring the optimism - certainly I think the Saints fans will be a lot happier and confident going into this one than the home support - it's how much of that transfers onto the park that will count.

Something is troubling me...
The following quote is from The Courier...
Saints will have on-loan Celtic midfielder Paul Lawson at their disposal after the Parkhead outfit agreed to let him become cup-tied.
“I spoke to Kenny McDowell, who spoke to Gordon Strachan, and we’ve been given permission to play Paul,’’ said boss Owen Coyle.
“The issue of involving him in cup ties was never discussed at the time he signed for us but it would have been wrong not to check whether Celtic were happy for us to do that.’’
But Lawson came on as a sub against United so he's already cup-tied! :?

I wouldn't see how that would work, bearing in mind that when you play in the competition, that is you only eligible to play for that club in that season's competition.
Anyway, he's available and I am sure will want to get right in about some Rangers players this evening.
