Simon Mensing... best of a bad lot.
They are the exact same words which I said after the game.
Some lovely play from him, especially in the first half. But other than that, distinctly average.

Mensing was pish. Thwe only players worth their wages today were Sheerin & Lawrie. I`ll give it to Lawrie because I usually slag him off but it just shows how bad we were if Lawrie was our top man.

Lawrie for the whole game - did i just say that.........
Thought Hardie had a superb first half, McLaren had a good second half. Mensing, McManus and Anderson were average.
The rest i don't know..........

Mensing, were they handing out drugs before i got there today, in the first half he never completed a pass, had a stinker, but did play a little better in the second half, Willie McLaren for me he played his socks off today
Christ, I've just voted for Andy Lawrie as man of the match.
Well done to the guy but thats an eye opener alright!

Simon Mensing... best of a bad lot.
Can't believe you watched the same game as me!First half, every ball was short, wayward or backwards when he had other options.Close call between Lawrie and Sheerin, will plump for Sheerin, for looking like the only one with a football brain, and he covered loads of ground.
Said after the Forfar friendly, the midfield wouldn't get out-muscled,but could get out-paced,as it has done against several teams with better engines and pace!
Think I was watching a different game aswell.
Only one player deserved it and that is Lawrie. Mensing was gash!!! and don't get me started with Hardie, who was a liability up untill his goal, where he decided he might actually put some effort in. He offered no support going forward, and would slowely jog bag when defending.

I thought Mensing did well in the first half, granted, he hit a couple of bad passes but he also hit quite a few good ones. He broke quite well and showed good composure on the ball.
Mind you, i'd give MOM to Savo, the guy is effort personified.

I'll explain my reasons for voting for Mensing.
I thought in the first half especially he was very composed and wasn't punting the ball away like so many others. He'd take a touch, turn a man and look for the pass.

Probably going against the grain but Lawrie for me for that shot in the 1st half. Just ahead of McLaren who doesn't deserve some of the stick he's getting these days - not really his fault if the crosses he puts in don't meet a blue shirt that can control the ball.

I thought in the second-half he showed real promise. Beat his man, linked up well with Goran, Scotland and Sheerin and swung some decent balls in!

Should try telling that to the eejit at the back of the East Stand who was on at him from the first minute to the last today.

Lawrie looked the most composed in a shaky defence. He was consistently good for the whole 90mins and its good to see that he's ridden the stick he was getting earlier in the season and he's coming good now.
FWIW I thought Mensing played reasonably well. Livi picked him and Sheerin out as our danger men and stuck 3 or 4 players around them whenever they got the ball. McLaren was poor in the first half but started to come into the game more in the second half, along with Jason.
From a discussion on another thread, James can't come back soon enough! We are missing his organisational skills at the back and his ability to gee others up

Defo Lawrie, out best defender and best forward (says it all).

I personally thought that mensing was rubbish and that is the worst performance I have seen him in a saints shirt. It was summed up when stanic went to shy it to mensing who was free and he shook his head as he didnt want it or was too tired, for me that was hard to take!
Lawrie was ok, mcmanus was ok and so was milne. I will give it too sheerin as he at least tried and was the only player looking for the ball!

you slag off folk voting mensing and then vote for McLaren?! What were you drinking?! He is without a doubt the new Tommy Lovenkrands!
Sheerin gets my vote. Again.

I think it has to be Lawrie for me today. I thought he shone amongst amongst average to say the least team mates.
Mensing the only other with pass marks although Jason showed flashes in the last 20 mins he didn't do enough.
Still dissapointed in mclaren, think he is really lacking confidence big time. We are crying out for a good out and out winger, no good sticking Mensing out there.

Still sticks in my throat a wee bit but I think Ando had a fabulous game today, didn't put a foot wrong at the back at all. If James comes back and boot shim out then I will be very disturbed about team selection!!

If James comes back in I'd rather see McManus dropped - he's a good stopper but there's no distribution other than the route 1 punt up the park and we need defenders that can build from the back or at least use the wings more.

If James comes back in then maybe it would be worth going back to a 3-5-2 and allow Stanic and Lawrie to get forward a bit more :?

That is great if James is in midfield as I would not like any of our defence to be dropped just now, they are really getting it together as a unit! :x

Ando probably had his least effective game so far but he was still pretty good.
May be worth changing to 3 5 2 as the other teams have sussed out as Radford says.
Come on the 2 guys who voted for Halliwell. Don`t be ashamed, tell us why.

But as a "unit" we are conceding more goals than we ever did when KJ was in the team. Sure, Ando has played well but we need Kevin James back in the side, I think the last three games have highlighted that more than ever.
Something like...
Giles (You and Bryn can swap jobs!)
Ando - McManus - James
Lawrie - Mensing/Hardie - Lawson - Sheerin - Stanic
Peaso/Scotland - Milne

That's only because he is on P&B telling everyone!! :***:
I voted for Jase - much more like it - wonder if he hears all the stick he gets from the 'fans'.
Liked the way Hardie tried to get the fans going after his goal - unfortunately he gestured at the section nearest the Ormond Stand - even a cattle prod up their arses wouldn't get that lot going.

He is the coolest kid on the block - that's why.
Numerous times he's made effort to the crowd to up their noise levels and we get a brief 1 minute applaud cheer and it goes back to being the usual dull McDiarmid. Today was prob the most singing we've done all day except Dundee United at hame.

I wouldn't put Lawson back into the team when he returns from suspension. He's a loan signing, we shouldn't be building a midfield with someone who won't see the season out with us in it.
Halliwell/Cuthbert
Anderson McManus James
Lawrie Hardie Mensing Sheerin Stanic
Scotland Milne
What I like about the Sheerin and Stanic combination on the left of a 3-5-2 more than Sheerin and McLaren on the left of a 4-4-2 is that Stanic will drop back or move in, allowing Sheerin the right to go roaming on the left. When McLaren plays, Sheerin is restricted to the centre only and becomes much less effective.

I mentioned the other day but can you see Lawson, at 22 years of age, making any sort of impact at Celtic?
If Coyle wants him enough I think he could stay on long-term.

McLaren was pash...for a winger his crossing is shocking and every time he tried to beat his man he was either tackled, had to give up and pass it or ran it out of the pitch. Mensing was totally inconsistent - one minute he was fending off and beating 4 men at a time and the next he was misplacing a 3 yard pass.

It's got to be Lawrie for me. Solid throughout. Passmarks also for Ando, McManus, Hardie, Mensing and Jason (though he looked like his form was coming back second half)
