From BBC...
Football legend George Best faces a critical 24 hours as he remains in intensive care with an infection.
His doctor Professor Roger Williams said that although Best was "holding", the medical team was "very worried".
"The next 24 hours is very critical for Mr Best as to whether he is going to survive this infection and all the consequences of it on his body."
A Man Utd and a Football legend.

I met him once in the football city of Scone
Its not looking too good for him now. One of the best players of his era and due to his country of birth was not able to shine on the world stage

In all respects, hes brought this on himself, hes had so many chances to change for himself, and so much help handed to him and he's just ruined his life more and more as each year goes by, a great player, a sad life under the cuff to alcohol, his time is coming, and theres nothing he can do about it now
What really annoys me about the whole George Best thing is the way the TV has been covering it - it's almost as if the TV stations are desperate to be the first to tell the world that he has died so they are going overboard with the coverage. I am fed up waking up in the morning to headlines of 'George isnt dead yet'. Well there are lots of other people who are very ill and who might die soon but we don't need to be reminded of this every two minutes. After all George Best is a retired footballer - it's not as if he is a world leader whose illness or demise will radically affect our lives (though it will be sad to see him go).

its a bit like that with all celebs though - the queen mom, diana... it was all about who had the best coverage and being the first person to speak to XX about that persons life. the media now contol this country to such an exten they can whip up a frenzy about what ever they want. be it fear of terror attacks or destroying politicians

the pope is another good example of this.... every morning the news was that the pope wasn't dead yet...
I think that the news/ media should report that someone isn't well but not daily and they should remember that there are family and friends who will want privacy in these sorts of situations.
any guesses on how long is it before there is a reality tv show with this sort of theme?

To be honest, I am sick of it being all over the papers/TV etc. Its not like its a big shock. There are better people in the world dying for no reason at all. Best is dying because he drank too much - end of story.
only got a few hours to live seemingly :(

Hope he's been on the wagon or it will take a week to put out the fire when they cremate him.

The thing about George was that he belonged to the era when even opposition fans would stand and applaud him as he ripped their team to pieces. Can you imagine Celtic/Rangers fans applauding one of the opposition players :?:
I always remember a game between ManU & ManC being shown on TV when you were lucky to see one game a week on the box and George being cheered off by both sets of fans and players at the end of the game because he had dazzled all game.
It is easy to slag him off for falling off the rails, but how many of us would have coped with being such a super star from the back strees of nowhere?

Another thing. If you've been looking at old tv footage of some of the matches he played in. NOTE: how many times he was late tackled, tripped, fouled and still stayed on his feet. A different mentality compared to todays footballers who appear to think it's fair game to throw oneself to the deck at the slightest excuse in order to gain a penalty, free, or just get the other guy booked.
Take, as an example, that Dundee tosser Lynch who threw himself down in our box just recently and got that penno. Then later, when challenged by a media pundit he 'pathetically' attempted to justify his actions with the words "I THOUGHT I FELT A CONTACT SO I WENT DOWN". What a mentality. A different breed indeed.
Cheating springs to mind, any means to achieve an end, lacking Moral fibre etc. The thing is, many modern day players wouldn't know what I was talking about.
I met this lass from Paisley, surprisingly she spoke fairly decent English.

I have two videos here at home
1. Law, Best and Charlton pure class
2. Best and Giggs
As was mentioned earlier all great athletes in all sports all seem to pocess great balance, he beat so many late challenges because of that.
What ever demons he had off the field, on it is what the man should be remembered for.
Imagine being Sir Matt Busby on a sat afternoon posting the team sheet up for the media at 2pm
Today im having Law, Best, Charlton, Nobby, Patty C, Foulke, Stepney and co play for me.
Just one would be enough if you asked most managers
May he RIP

I remember Georgie as a very quiet and shy young boy, never the superstar. Even when he had had a few jars he was never loud or "Hey look at me."
I remember once, when he got a standing ovation, he looked at the crowd and said "What a wonderful bunch of people," never thinking that they thought that HE was what was wonderful.
May that shy wee boy rest in peace.
Smudge    Because Georgie was soooooo 8)
