A wee bit OTT!!

I think there would have been had we had a game prior to the funeral but not after. You should remember the Club was represented at the funeral and did show respect by wearing black arm bands last week and flying the flags at half mast until the funeral.

Yeah maybe.

But it still did not give the avarage fan any way to mark their respect

totally agree and it was unfortunate taht the game was an away match last week.

Out of curiosity there always seems to be fans showing their respects at times like this by leaving scarves etc did this happen??

I really hope this was the case, if not your right, there's really is no excuse. I suppose it could be argued that because Drew passed away a couple of weeks ago and the funeral's already taken place, the moment for a minute of silence/applause had passed, but I would totally disagree with that argument if that is the case. Would it really have been a major problem to have a minute before the game to allow ordinary fans to pay thier respects, especially those like myself who are too young to have seen Drew play? I don't think so.

My thoughts exactly. I never saw him play, but he obviously gave a hell of a lot to saints, and i would have liked a chance to pay some respect.
Another gaff from saints, ahhh they dont really care about us do they :?:

I don't often post here unless I feel that I have something worth saying.
I think that the lack of a minute's silence today was disgraceful - It does not matter if the players wore black armbands, or flew the flag at half mast - the fans should have been given the opportunity to pay their respects at McD before the game - as someone has already stated, there was a minute's silence for George Best - and I know that Drew Rutherford means a lot more to me that Mr Best.
I can only hope that the minute's silence was held back for a reason, if not, I'll await an official explanation from the club.

I'll refrain from posting further remarks until I read an official response.

I wood rather have minute silence for drew than best, thought it wa bad.At least we got to show our thoughts at the 2zzer.Drew new before he went how much we cared and that means much more than a mins silence to me.

one of the 80's train mob

to be fair the head bummers at the club brown, duff etc do not remember or were there back in Drews time.SO THEY DONT UNDERSTAND.Funny how younger fans who dont remember Drew do understand though.Out of touch comes to mind.

I was tempted to e-mail the club when i got in last night to find out why but refrained from doing so.

I think everyone presumed we would be having one - there were so many people who stood standing for it around us, and spoke to a few in the twoser who said they felt like numpty's just standing their expecting it to happen.

I can only suggest yourself or one of the other organisers of Drew,s benefit night do email the club and politely ask them if there was a reason for nothing being done at yesterdays game.

Can I ask who you sent it to and if it was politely written?

I have found writing direct to Paul is usually the best bet (paul@stjohnstonefc.co.uk) as he will usually reply quickly if in the office, even if to only let you know it is being looked into.

I have not been on the forum since Christmas eve however I did contact Paul yesterday and he has been back in touch this morning to say he will pass my e-mail on to Stewart Duff

I have asked the club to make public their reason for there being no mark of respect

"Hi,
I am just looking for an explanation as to why there was not a minute's silence before this match in memory of Drew Rutherford.
Was this just an error on the part of the Club/Referee or was it a policy decision made by the club?

Many thanks for your attention on this matter.

Graeme J Stewart"

Storm,

Exceedingly so - it is just that I know from experience that certain people at the club take offence at the slightest thing, especially if they think it is a persional attack.

Thanks TS, I always try to be polite where appropriate.

I still await a reply from the club on this subject, I shall wait patiently (should I hold my breath? - I don't think so).

I shall refrain from posting further on this subject until after Monday - watch this space, and the media.

According to todays PA there will be a presentation to Drews wife and family at half-time during the Scumdee game, at which Saints fans will be able to express their appreciation of Drew.

Apparently the organisers of Drews night will be making this presentation - are they aware of this and if so could have stopped a lot of this bad feeling creeping (nae rushing) in. Remembering that Hazel has been on here complaining.

Could the club not have let the fans know via the official site and again stopped the bad feeling towards the club?

It is all so easy now to let people know what is happening.

TS, i actually only found out that there would be a presentation two nights ago, but it had not been confirmed. As i am no longer sure what's going on, i just leave things till i get told. Bear/Kev are the only ones who know what's going on!!

As Hazel has already pointed out, she only found out on Wednesday evening, the same as ther est of us did. There has been quite a bit of back-room work going on to try and get something done, Margaret was the hardest to get on board as she is nervous about going on to the pitch but it seems Drew asked her to before he passed away. For anyone to have said something would only have been like throwing petrol on an already bright fire, so it was kept it quiet until we knew what was happening.

The presentation will be at the start of half-time and will involve the folk who set it all up, the club are taking a back-seat out of respect for all the hard work done by the 208 supporters. The cheque will be presented to Margaret and her family, then I will ask you all to show your appreciation for Drew. Now this is a gamble as most of you disappear at half-time so we could be faced with empty stands again however, I would hope that as you now know about this you will stay to show your appreciation. Please also tell anyone else who you know is going, to do likewise, that way we can show Margaret just how much respect the Saints fans have for Drew.

TS, don't go shooting the messengers, we just tried to do what you were all looking for but couldn't confirm anything until such time as it was all arranged.

Okay here the story regarding the presentation. It had been provisionally booked ages ago (the week of the Race night for the 2nd), but as Drews death was so close to Xmas everything was put on hold.

I spoke to Margaret on 27th Dec and she said the family would still like to go ahead with it on 2nd as planned. So only then did I speak to the club and set the wheels in motion. As soon as I knew anything, I emailed Hazel, Kev, Graeme etc to say what was happening. I personally was not going to presurize the family at this difficult time of year, this was there decision.

The club knew there would be a presentation at some point in January, so therefor maybe felt it would be more significant to wait until then I do not know.

Hazel you are as informed as me and anyone else, what I know, you know. :)

Hopefully on Monday everyone will show there support and appreciation for Drew to his family at this difficult time. It won't be easy for them as everything is still raw.

My concern is the coagies lack of respect, for them.So please cheer, chant, clap on Saturday for them.

Hope this clarifies everything.

Again, I will say this could easily have been nipped in the bud by a simple statement to say that something is in hand and details will be released when it is finalised - quite simple really. It is known as communication.

That way this thread would not have been started and the likes of Storm would not have felt the need to have written to the club.

If Drews family had felt that they did not want to go ahead with it, then there wishes would have been respected and people would have understood - but the deadly silence was just fanning the flames.

Monday will be our chance to show our appreciation for Drew. Surely the coags would not stoop so low as to disrespect this moment.

Not that I wish to defend our friends from up the river, but do we have any reason to think the coags wouldn't be respectful? I could be wrong (for once :D ) but I don't remember hearing of the unwashed spoiling a minutes silence or anything along those lines in the past so would be surprised if they did it on Monday. Plus, they don't really give a toss about us as much as we do about them, or so they tell us anyway.

Ok folks, the presentation will be at the beginnig of half-time and I will be asking you all to show your appreciation for Drew with a minutes applause whilst the cheque is being handed over.

To this end, I have also scrapped the anti-coagie music as I would rather they were either silent or joined in the applause, rather than have then shouting and swearing during the presentation. Sorry if anyone is disappointed.

Im sure the coagies wouldnt do anything to disrespect Drew's minute of applause whilst his family are on the pitch at half time, 99% of all people have some amount of decency in them, even coagies.

Football is only a game, a families grieving lasts longer then a 90 minute game.

If they do attempt to do something stupid I hope the security turf them out the ground quick smart.

Thanked the Dundee fans as a lot of them joined in the applause but was not happy at the Saints youngsters who booed when I thanked the Dundee fans for their support.

As was Kevin and I. We talked about it in the 2ser last night and just being on that pitch knowing it was for Drew was amazing.

I was too scared to look at the stand though, it was a very surreal sight being on the pitch and seeing the stand full

Good noise from the Saintees though, proud moment!
