Feels a bit strange when your team is not involved on the Saturday for a big cup game but nevertheless it gives us a bit longer to build up the anticipation for next Wednesday night.
What's the general feeling for our chances against Maurice Badpass' side?

I think we're in wi a no bad shout.
We always play better against the 'bigger' teams.
If we don't concede early we should be in wi a great chance of winnin

If we play like we did against other SPL sides we will definetly have a good chance.
Who are we playing at the back if mcmanus is out :?:

I think the delay is a blessing as we really want McManus to be fit as otherwise we're gonna be weakening another area of the team to replace him as we don't have a straight replacement. He hasn't trained yet AFAIK though so you'd have to guess it's looking unlikely.
Worst case scenario and it's going to be either Lawrie or Mensing, with the one not chosen at centre-back playing right-back. I still think Simon is too prone to mistakes to play centre-half but it's a difficult call for OC to make.
The other injuries (Savo, Ruti), suspensions (McInnes, Ando) and cup-tied players (Lilley) mean we're going to be limited. We need 2 outfield U21 players in the XVI but that won't mean leaving any senior players out as we just don't have the numbers.
The side picks itself really if Chalky misses out:
Cuthbert
Lawrie/Mensing - Lawrie/Mensing - James - Stanic
Morais - Hardie - Sheerin - McLaren
Peaso - Scotland
Subbies: O'Brien/Halliwell, Dyer, Jackson + 2
If Chalky is fit then I'd guess Simon will play the holding role in midfield, Sheerin will move to the left and it'll be a straight fight between Morais and McLaren for the right-hand role.
Motherwell seem to have a pretty settled side which is likely to be along the following lines:
Smith
Corrigan - Craigan - Reynolds - Murphy
Smith - Kerr - Fitzpatrick - Paterson
McDonald - Clarkson
Others involved could be Steven McGarry, Ross McCormack or Kevin McBride.
We've proved already we can handle these occasions but it's important we don't become complacent after beating better SPL sides.
PA yesterday claimed over 1,000 fans will be heading through. I hope they are right as they would be a great turn out for a Wednesday night when the game is on TV. How many buses are running?

McManus will be given until Monday to start training again. I would go with Mensing in the centre with Lawrie as right back and hopefully, Morais wide right. McManus's fitness, to me, is crucial and would be a key player on Wednesday and likely to be given the job of marking McDonald

Have either ever played centre back before? Cant Dyer play there?

McDonald up against young Dyer could be a recipe for disaster!

Doesn`t have the pace to mark McDonald but then neither does Mincing. Could be a chance for Dter but I don`t think Coykle would risk it.
Radfords team looks the most likely with Lawrie RB & Mincing CB.

Dyer remains predominantly a left-back, just as those two would call other positions their own. Both have played enough at centre-back to be able to do a job there. Mensing played quite a few games last season as a centre-back.

Cagey I am sure that you can spell so why do you not try to spell Simon's name correctly or am I to under stand that you do not rate him, whilst sitting on you back side on your couch at home.
If you knew the players that play for STJ then you would know that Si has played there a number of times..
Ps would you please stand up in the crowd and call him that the next time I am up (will advise in advance) so I might be educated in what a PRAT looks like.
To all others I apologise in advance if any of you are upset with my outburst.

Yes, calm down :?
Should be a close one, Motherwell will be up for it, as will we; if we can cope with McDonald then we might be able to hurt them. However, let's not underestimate what we're capable of, in terms of ability, this encounter looks nothing short of a level playing field.

You are right I do not rate Mensing & I do know he has played at Centre Back which position he is more suited to. It is probably not his fault that Coyle keeps playing him in midfield where IMO he looks lost & uncomfortable.
ps There is no need to negate your point with insults.Because I don`t rate Mensing & spell his name incorrectly as a play on mince may make me a prat but it does not help your point to say it.

I agree, people should be more up for it and attend if possible because the chance of a midweek cup tie away from home in a hostile atmosphere is fantastic, especailly if Saints win against another SPL club. Motherwell are favourites. Saints have nothing to lose, they might as well have a go.

Both semi-final venues are for Hampden but there may be a negotiation procedure like the League Cup I don't know.
Anyway as we are underdogs for Wednesday can anyone clarify that none of these players are available -
Stevie Milne
Derek Lilley
Derek Mcinnes
Alan McManus
Steven Anderson
Kevin Rutkiewicz
and that's al; that are unavailable.

------------------------------Cat---------------------------------
----------------Mensing-----James-----Dyer-------------------
Lawrie-------Hardie-------Sheerin------McLaren-------Stanic

I could be wrong, but ever since I heard that McManus was a doubt, I have had a sneaky suspicion that he may try to go to 3 at the back.

Pretty sure it'll be Jacko and Dyer. OC won't let Jacko go on loan to Forfar as we need him for the Cup because of the ruling and the fact Lilley is cup-tied and Savo injured.
The following are fit and available as far as I know:
Cuthbert, O'Brien, Lawrie, James, Mensing, Stanic, Dyer, Morais, McLaren, Hardie, Sheerin, Scotland, MacDonald, Jackson.
The following are definitely out:
Rutkiewicz (injury), Lilley (cup-tied), McInnes (suspended), Anderson (suspended).
Leaving doubts over:
McManus (groin), Halliwell (elbow), Doris (wrist), Milne (knee).
If none of those make it Coyle will probably have to name himself on the bench but no idea who the 16th man will be.

Glad there is a student discount. Tempted to go for the juvenile option although last time at Fir Park when we got relegated, I was about 14 and was refused Juvenile entry which was a joke.
Looking forward to this one and will be taking at least 8 mates so far. I think it will be a push to hit the 1,000 mark but the atmosphere should be good. If we stop them playing and really press them like we did to Hibs and Rangers then I don't see why we cant win this one. Hopefully Mad Mental Martin or Simon will pole axe Scott McDonald early on and keep him quiet.
Prediction would be 1-0 Saints, Sheerin belter.

I'm quite optimistic about the numbers for tomorrow. Seems like there's quite a few buses and a lot of folk bringing extras along. I usually under-estimate how many we'll take so looking forward to this.
I hope we don't under-estimate Motherwell tomorrow. We've caught the other SPL sides on off days but even if Motherwell play well, if we still play tou our best we have a chance.

I work (awaits jokes) in Uddingston - about 20 minutes from Motherwell - and at 9.30pm it was horrendous. I'd imagine the game is 60/40 in favour of going ahead just now, purely because of the TV coverage.
I changed my shift for tomorrow so I could go to this (I've enjoyed the away cup games you've had in 2007), so I hope the game is on. Also means I'll get a fair idea from around 12 noon how likely a postponement is...... :(
Regarding the opposition, we've played Motherwell three times this season, and over those matches they've been the poorest side we've faced on league duty - last midweek, they had 1 shot on target at Love Street. Keep McDonald quiet and the goals dry up. :)

Coddy is a Saintee!
Starting to get a bit excited about this game now, just reading all the interviews the players have done with various papers and websites. Still a nasty feeling this is gonna be the one where it goes wrong but even if that happens it'll still be 4 tremendous performances against SPL sides.
Chalky now looks certain to play so, if he is honestly near 100%, then that's a tremendous boost as not only do we have one of our best centre-backs, it frees up Mensing to play in central midfield and Lawrie at right-back.
The only choice OC now has to make is Morais or McLaren on the right. I usually come out with something lame like I'd leave it up to OC but I hope he picks Morais, I'd love to see him up against SPL opposition for 90 minutes. If he does stay on the bench at least we know he can make an impact from there though.

Looking forward to this also and echo Radders sentiments above regarding the Morais/McLaren decision - after Morais performance against Brechin i don't see how you can leave him out.

I put £20 quid on for us to beat Gers 2-0 at ibrox in the CIS QF so I will do the same for the Scottish Cup QF and put £20 quid on for the 2-0 win. If it comes up I keep enough for a wee bevvy and then put the rest into the kids bank accounts.

Managed to watch the game via NTL - was really worried about a 'blackout' but it never happened. Watched last five minutes from behind the sofa though!
5 live reported that there was an 'upset' - don't think that is fair given Saints record this season in cup. I am very happy with the result but don't see it as a shock.
Nice to see Saints mentioned on the front page of the BBC web site though! Can't remember seeing that before.

We were awsome tonight. No failures. Only moan is why we can`t play like this more often as we would have ran away with this league if we did.
2 GOING ON 5 OR 6,.
Peaso.Mensing & Jacko should have scored but going into the last 10 mins I couldn`d see Motherwell scoring 2 goals but was a bit worried when they got one back.
Only Hibs & us have been in 2 semi`s & they aren`t in the forfarshire cup final so we are the beat team in Scotland.
Mainstand, Good to see Siman get MoM on beeb but McManus was MoM for me seeing as he has not trained all week & has a groin strain.

YYYAAAGGGHHHHH!!! That was the most satisfying one yet!! How pesh are Motherwell????
We scored 2 but should have had 6 - c**p finishing and some fantastic goalkeeping by Smith kept the score respectable. Marking at the back was a bit dodgy and we had the usual "stand off them and let them run at us" tactic going on a bit, but Cat mopped things up well when required. Positives were that we totally BATTERED them in midfield and up front, with Simon Mensing and Martin Hardie both putting in absolutely superb shifts, getting right in their faces (Simon, you are SO frustrating sometimes mate...), giving McLaren and Sheerin space and time to work some magic. (Thought Paul had a stunner tonight BTW after his lack of form recently) The two crosses that led to our goals were sublime - Wullie made his marker look a total donkey and sold him down the river, but Goran seemed to beat the whole defence before his stunning cross was mercilessly dispatched by Jason - seemed to all happen in slow motion it was so perfect...!
What a game. Well done boys - and us - who didn't stop singing all night. Pars or Hibs in the semi please. So that means it'll probably be Celtic then - you just know it... But a day out at Hampden - can't be bad! :***:

Anyone I spoke to pre-match had doubts over Wullie's inclusion in the team - wasn't any need for them, was there? Mensing was brilliant in......erm.....whatever position he popped up in at any given opportunity, but Kevin James was immense again - does he save his best for the Scottish Cup? Absolutely fantastic performance last night. For me, performance of the season, as we attacked all night and could easily have scored 4 or 5 and it could not have been argued with.
Every player should be extremely proud of themselves this morning. They have shown, on national TV, again, that they can match their SPL couterparts and that we deserve to be there next season.
Mensing was outstanding, back in the centre of midfield. That is his best position, and Coyle really needs to realise this. Where did Hardie pull some of those passes from ? My god, I didn't realise he could pass a ball like that. Stanic's run for Jase's goal was immense, full of purpose and with a superb cross on the end of it which just invited the header for the goal. I thought Willie looked good for about seventy minutes, and just tired due to all his running, and the whole defensive unit was solid.
So happy this morning. Going to be smiling ALL day.

Thing is, he's been doing it all season. His pass for Savo at Firhill, the pass for Savo at Ibrox, the pass for Jason against Dundee, another for Savo up at Dingwall. For all Sheerin is the wizard, Hardie is the man that can put a 40 yard pass right on his team mate's toe.

Totally delighted - it's so hard to actually talk about the football on show when you are so happy about it.
Passing was sublime, defence worked hard and McManus put in a hell of a shift for little training and he should be delighted, midfield worked so hard and all 4 were fantastic - and the front two put in a power of work and played some beautiful stuff!
Just chuffed for us - we're going to Hampden and we deserve it.
Loving Peaso's radio interview too - Chick the Prick "Well, Peter, who do you want in the next round of the Cup?" and Peaso's ever so honest answer of "Well, obviously Dunfermline with them being the weaker side..." :***: Class, son - being disrespectful to the potential opposition already!!

At least we now know why they don't put home fans in that stand and also why it is so far back from the pitch. View was poor which is strange as I've had a recurring dream in the past - before we even drew Motherwell - of being at Fir Park and being in the top tier of the stand at the other end (I know it doesn't have a top tier but it was a dream, ok!) and I couldn't see half the pitch because of the slope of the tier! Weird!
Atmosphere was brilliant.

Fir Park was a disgrace last night, firstly the tannoy system was not switched on at the upper tier, so we heard nothing no team news or whatever was going on!
Secondly the whole sitting down issue with the stewards, I have nothing against them they are simply doing their job, but the double stadards where the Well fans could stand up in the east stand all game annoyed me!
I would also appplaude the Well fans who have gave us credit last night, unlike every other SPL team who have slated their own team!

We stood up all evening! I thought the stewards were great!

To the right of the goals, steward told me twice to sit down!

Did not sit down the whole game, superb!! Absolutely brilliant atmosphere, the Ivano/Dario chant went on for ages!!
Was in the boozer before the game with few Well fans that am mates with, pub was relatively quiet till about half six when it was taken over by Saints fans singing heartily. Again superb. I don't think that word can be used enough.......
Met my mates again after the game and to be fair they were thoroughly decent, said we deserved to win and they felt lucky they came away with only a 2-1 defeat. I would have rather they were less gracious so could have got it round them more!!

Mensing by far the best lpayer on the pitch - he needs to start in the centre of the park week in week out.
Im not his biggest fan but have to give him credit last night. That midfield should be our starting choice, certainly the centre pair. With McInness for cover Si or MMH get sent off

Didn't make it hame until well past 2.30 am but it was well worth the long drive. Saints were superb with the only dissapointment being we didn't win by more. Stanic was excellent as ususal - oh to have had him ten years ago. The front two excellent, both working tirelessly. Mensing by far the best player on the pitch - he needs to start in the centre of the park week in week out.
I think I'd rather get Celtic or Hibs in the semi as I can't help but feel that we've done well against the SPL teams because they've been set up to attack us and that's given us the room we don't get in league games - Dunfermline are shite and might be tempted to play a more reserved game which may be more difficult to break down.

Don't know if anyones had the chance to (or been bothered!) to go have a quick read of the motherwell forum over at welltrustfc.net, but to say they're giving thier team some abuse is an understatement!

Cheers saints this truely is a dream come true! :D
Am just watching the game on video now (I had to work last night so couldn't even watch the game on TV) and can't believe how easy we had it! Am absolutely gutted I missed it, we played out of our skins and were just taking the piss at times. It's the 80th minute now and I can't believe how much we are still attacking them!
Loving the work of the crowd as well, I sat my Rangers supporting flatmate down in front of the TV just in time for "Are You Rangers in Disguise?" - the look I got was priceless!
Cannae wait to see Saints at Hampden. I know I was at the game against Rangers in the late 80s, but remember so little of it I've been wanting to go back for years!

I thought Morais, Milne and Jackson coming on at the end was an excellent bit of manangement by "The OC". It made them all feel part of the victory and with the schedule ahead they'll be used plus McInnes, Anderson and Lilley to come back it's looking good.
I thought Scotland, Mensing, Peaso and Stanic were immense in an overall great team performance. I enjoyed when the Motherwell fans were getting on Stanic's back for not taking the throw quick enough and the referee added his displeasure so he threw it to Sheerin and received the ball back then proceeded to run right through the Motherwell defence to cross for Scotland's goal :***: 8) - now that's controlled aggression.
Our midfield was far superior to Motherwell's and the defence looked solid. Brilliant.

Watching down here on BBC Scotland it looked as if Jason put in a decent shift thoughout until he came off. Nice to see even if was in the shop window.

I thought that Jason played one of his best games for us but was shocked to see him only 4th in the MoM poll, suppose thats an indication of just how well Mensing, Stanic and MMH played.

Yeah, quite easily at times - mind you I did have it turned up full blast a lot of the time so the afforementioned *** flatmate couldn't escape it even if he did leave the room!
