all i can say is that i hope we win so were not pushing our luck for the league untill the last game like last season it was only the second last game that we found out we lost the league(or close to that time)

All or nothing for every game now and this one gives us another chance to put Gr£tna under a bit of pressure ahead of their game on Sunday.
We need to raise the passion level to that we have shown in our cup games and no game does it better than a derby against the second best team in Dundee.

our games sunday too
as all ours games are from now untill the end of season this is a must-win, no other option left. it is still gr£tna's league to throw away but i'm sure i'll be speaking for everyone when i say that we'll be there to catch it if it is thrown away!
also....2nd best team in Dundee? i don't know, i've played against some very good youth teams :***:

Have to win this and reduce the gap on Gretna to four points with them idle. Sure to be a difficult game but the sort that may suit us more than the ones we've just played against the sides at the lower end of the table.
Horrible feeling about the game but then I had that on Saturday as well so hopefully a good sign.
The players should all be in better shape after their break so OC isn't short of options. I wouldn't be totally surprised if he played McInnes and Mensing in the centre with the two wingers and Hardie up top with Jason.

Dundee games are always weird... that's why i'm worried, we are playing very well at home, but then these games tend to buck trends... but if everyoen is up for it, we should beat them... they don't have too much to play for and if the referee is strong and not influenced by Rae... we'll do fine.
The fans can do their bit though... should be a good crowd I reckon, with all the amateur players available and the pub-leagues finished by then.

That's the key point here. 4 points would be the closest we've been since October or something. With one manager having to rest through stress let's put the pressure on Davie now. 4 points might rattle them a bit more, it did to Airdrie a few years back and I wouldn't like it if it were Saints with a team creeping up behind us - the pressure must be put on.

Ref is Stuart Dougal.
It's funny but I used to hate all these refs when we were in the SPL, now they all seem like Willie Young compared to shite like Finnie and Allan.

Hope we can stuff dundee on sunday and keep some kind of pressure on a gretna team who seem determined to let us catch them. Still think the league is doable and hope that after last week, the away form will start to turn round as well as maintaining our home form against dundee.

Don't seem to be much enthusiasm belting out about todays derby. I'm right up for this, i feel we could give them a right going over. Bloody well hope so aswell!
Mensing to break a couple legs before his ban, both of Swankie's perhaps.
A comfortable win and the gaps only 4 points! Get into them!

Nah, just bad commentating...
Seriously, we have to watch this one, Dundee will be up for it. Having been generally rank again this season, they will want to have an "influence" over where the title goes, and having lost to Gretna, they'll want to beat the other team chasing it, namely us. We need to get in amongst them and wind Rae up - Dundee are always good for at least one red card when they get into a scrap. Put Morais on Swankie and that should shut him up.

Pretty Easy 3 points for Saints today. Dundee offered very little going forward and second half we should have took a chunk out of Gretna's goal difference

25-03-2007, 06:35 PM
We looked much more a team wanting to win the league especially in the second half. We passed the ball around well when we finally managed to keep it on the deck. Dundee lacked creativity which meant Cuthbert didn't have much to trouble him and they resorted to some pretty hefty challenges, which rightly ended up with them having a player sent off.
Hope big James is ok, came off worst in what looked like a clash of heads and had to be stretchered off.
It'll be interesting now to see how Gretna cope under pressure especially if we beat Livi next week. I'm sure their game in hand is away to Airdrie and with them beating Partick today, our reserve team can still avoid relegation

Once we went in front,we rarely looked troubled and a bit more pace would have seen us wipe the floor with them (IMHO Morais should have been introduced sooner). Two good goals and God knows how many other chances missed.
Dixons bookings were well deserved and about the only sensible decision Richmond made all day.
Only worry is the injuries - Stanic and Ando picked up knocks and James looked flat out after the head clash. Hopefully all will be fit for the Livi game.

Saints were good today. When we had the ball on the deck we played it around nicely. I thought Stanic, Scotland, Peaso, Hardie, James and Ando were all excellent. Even McInnes had a decent second half!
Overall, much better from us with us creating many many chances and we probably should have won by more. Great win Saints, keep it up :)

I enjoyed that second half and we really could and should have scored more. I was listening to the radio on the way to the game and all the talk was of this player and that player from Dundee, with them saying how good they were. It got me really worried. It need not have though, all the Dundee players were pretty woeful (except perhaps the lanky no 9) and it makes me wonder what these so called experts really know about football - all of the players they were talking up before the game were cr@p!!
TOS - you made one error on your report - Sheerin's effort from a tight angle did not go over the bar.... it went out for a throw in! :-(
Hazel1884
25-03-2007, 08:05 PM
A big improvement and obviously the break has done the players good - many improved performances - Stanic, Sheerin and even MacDonald there along with Anderson, Hardie and scotland again turning in good performances.
We had all the possession and presure and easily could have won that 4 or 5 nil with Dundee having very little to offer - i expected a more attacking Dundee side then we seen today but maybe that's taking away from our good performance?
There was flowing football and it was a joy to watch, especially in the 2nd half, and i must say i can feel my hopes getting slightly raised again after being a fairly pessimist the past few weeks - i suppose next 2 games will either kill them off or raise them even higher!
Looking forward to the Livingston game even more now!

Game of two halves for Saints, but even in the first half we rarely looked troubled due to Dundee's ineptitude. However, we did play some sparkling stuff in the 2nd half against some serious hammer throwing opposition, and won it despite joke refereeing. Goran looked very impressive, as did Captain Kev at the back despite some of his mate McManus' early attempts to ruin his day. Thought that McInnes and Sheerin both had terrible first half showings, but both played some very nice stuff in the second. Wizard was very unlucky not to score today I thought, he really is fantastic when he goes looking for the ball. And I think we'd all like to see a lot more of that committed, lovely passing game that Derek McInnes played after the break too, probably Derek McInnes as well. Peaso had his best game for a long while - lovely assist for our first goal, but was on the end of some shocking treatment. MoM for me, however, is JASON SCOTLAND - dragged that defence all over the front line today, and showed some fantastic pieces of skill under serious pressure due to the fact he was the victim of several murder attempts by the look of it.
As for the Coags, nice to see Rae's boys playing the sort of game Rae played best. Thugs.

Thought Dundee put us under a bit of pressure in the first 15 mins & we kept punting the ball up the park.
Second half was better with the early goal settling the nerves & we strated to pass the ball & keep it on the deck,Cuthbert even threw the ball out once instead of punting it up the field where we were 1 against 3.
Should have bitten into the goal difference but missed & few & gave Roy a chance to make a couple of good saves. Near the end Jason made another great run & all he had to do was pass it back to Sheerin who was in loads of space & screaming for the ball but he put it across the goal & a certain goal was lost.
Ref was different class. Daal had his arms around the Saints players for every ball he went for & McManus got booked for being pulled down by him. Hardie was penalised for the same thing, yet they were putting tackles in that could have done damage & getting away with it. Not to mention the throw ins that he gave their way. The man should be struck off.

I reckon we can afford one slip up, possibly even a defeat as long as it isn't in the Gretna game.

Especially if they don't take six points from their next two games. If we lose next week, and they win the two games they have, could they not win the league that day so even then, to not make it all ticket is ridiculous.
I would say that shed that we get could hold a lot more than they give out tickets for though, maybe that's their thinking if they are limited by how many tickets they can give out. Can't see the media darlings risking a savaging in the press by turning Saints fans away after travelling all that way.

I think the main difference yesterday and the game at Dens a few weeks back was that we kept Swankie out of the game. Much as it pains me to say it, because I still think he's a wee shite, some credit for this must go to Steven Anderson.
Can't understand the Jekyll and Hide nature of Saints at the moment. The second half showed how brilliant we can be and was reminiscent of the cup performances.
Anyway, well done to the lads. Let's see if Gretna have the bottle.

The point was that the end of the season all of a sudden seems very close and whilst needing x wins from ten or twelve games seemed a long way off, we've got to this stage and are still in with a shout if we can win at Raydale. Having to win four or five games in a row is easier than having to win eight or nine in a row, which we thought we'd have to do in the middle of February.
Have a go at suggesting one of those crazy predictions by the way, or are you talking out of your arse like usual? At least you've found time to stop crying about Alan Main in order to post. Well done!

When Anderson was in position he did fine but on several occasions early on his was nowhere to be seen and Swankie got in behind only to pick out the wrong pass to his static strikers. Even a couple of occasions in the second half he drifted far too far infield and Mensing had to cover for him.
How one guy can look like such a different player in two different positions, I have no idea.

Chris Smith has time on his side , he's won us a good few points recently , and he will become a Scottish internationalist , that's for sure !
Can I take you back 12 months when you were discussing last seasons 1st division player of the year nominations on P&B , you said that Kirk Broadfoot was only included 'cos it wasn't "right!" for the champions not to represented . Looks like Kirk is the only one of last seasons nominees who's going on to big things in the game , you called that one wrong too , but you're very good at that , just like you're very good at denying that you ever uttered some of you're own amazing gaffes !

You mean this (http://www.pieandbovril.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=39512&view=findpost&p=1004384) post discussing the nominations...
"At last, some other sensible person arrives. Broadfoot maybe does lose his positioning sometimes because he's been upfield but he reads the game superbly. I thought Jason gave him a tough time on 17th December but that apart I've never failed to be impressed. I'm not surprised his fellow pros have recognised this. Players like John Potter and Kevin Rutkiewicz are good solid defenders but they don't stand out. They do their jobs well and with little fuss but Broadfoot has that something extra.
I don't think he'll win the award as defenders rarely do but I'm not too surprised he's been nominated.
I don't think Alex Neil will win it either so it's between the other three for me and Jason obviously has my support!"
Indeed, before the nominations were announced, I suggested Charlie Adam would be nominated, only to be shot down by St Mirren fans going on about Hugh Murray and John Potter. Now which one has played in Europe this season?
Keep trying though! :***:

There's a whole inbred clan of the "G's". This one claims to be female IIRC. So probably Billy's sister or wife, or more likely both!

Not at all, just thought that our visitor from afar deserved a little welcome present. You should be grateful, you're one of only three people on here that has an avatar...

I thought he was the only guy that turned up in the first 20 minutes or so. Three months ago, when he was missing from the side, we'd have lost a goal or two in that opening period.

Aha, that's why I put that comment in where I did. This is the 'Catch22' problem of professional sport. That is the view of the sport's biggest customers - the old firm, but the rest of the league, the sponors and the neutrals all want competition, otherwise they'll all drift away. It depends on whose foot the boot is.
There is a view that the average fan today can't cope with emotional roller coasters. They take defeats far too deeply and enjoy wins far too
ecstatically. finally ending up mentally ill and get taken away to the funny farm by men wearing funny white coats.
Aha.

He is one of the best cenre backs in the league.

Maybe you could take a head-knock if that's the benefits!?? Perhaps you'd realise just how vital Kev is to the team and as a wee add on, you'll maybe learn to use capital letters and how to spell!?
