Interesting that the Scotsman article voiced some doubts about Coyle sitting on the bench for so long, as opposed to being on the field which in theory would enable him to exert more influence on the team.

The article also had the same reservations about Kernaghan.

Hughes played a fair few games for Falkirk last year did he not? Do people think this could be something worth trying, as it seems Coyle prefers the youngsters to himself?

Other then Scotland we dont seem to have many options as far as goal scoring is concearned as of late

Maybe OC might be worth a shout from the jump against Gretna, but if the midfield dont create a few decent chances, he wont be bale to work his magic.

Id love to see both Jackson and Doris start this week.

Gretna will be pumped and looking for a scalp, a bit of enthusiasm from our side will be needed to match Gretna.

The new media darlings of the west coast media will be doing their best to talk them up all week against us in the press.

Owen Coyle shouldn't play until he is up to the pace....he has only played 2/3 bounce matches in the past month, so like others, he won't be match fit!

If only there was a reserve league, if only we could arrange a bounce game for every week - it would certainly give others chances to stake a claim for the first team. And keep the other players fit so that when we do call on them they will be ready/able to come in and do a job!

I've been very surprised, and disappointed, this season that he hasn't played more often than he has. He was one of the top scorers in the league last time and I can't see why he'd have lost that overnight. Owen Coyle is a dangerous striker - we've all seen what he can do over the years - so it is strange that he's on the books but never plays. However, I agree with Hazel that there's no point if he's not match fit. I also think there's no point in him putting himself on the bench if he's never going to actually consider using himself, because otherwise it's just a waste of a sub.

I also think that right now he's (rightly) behind Doris and Jackson in the queue. It should be one of those two that starts with Scotland against Gretna, because they're the two who have impressed recently and are most deserving of that chance.

I had this discussion in the pub last night, and i don't understand why we had the need for 3 strikers on the bench. That left us no (natural) cover for midfield, closest thing to it was Fotheringham.

I thought that too, but was assuming it was just because the injury situation meant there wasn't much other choice?

Well the only others available were McManus and Hannah. But i don't want Hannah near the team so i am not asking questions about why he wasn't on the bench - there's probably a million reasons why he wasn't!!!

Having last seen him play against East Fife in the reserve cup and miss a handful of clearcut chances, I would say that he has come under the influence of Saints strikers coach and has lost it.

Jackson is the future (hopefully). So no Coyle on bench or pitch unless we only have him available.
