The yoofs won 2-0 today against Hamilton.
Doreen and Jackson were both on the sidelines, not included in today's match alongside an injured Mooner!
Think the young lads have been watching the first team too much - there was a lot of hoofing the ball up the park the day. Which is frustrating because we know we can play better.
Quite a young side today with the only older players being McManus, Dyer, McCallum and Deery.
Two goals from Neilly McCallum won us the game against a big, physical side. Good, quick footwork for both goals but the second was a belter!
A quick note about one of the youth lads Deery (now called Doris according to the PA!) has been given a months contract i.e till the end of January.

Is this a professional contract to determine whether he's going to make it at Saints or not?
Erm, well to be honest they only have one game against Celtic in the cup planned for January. Then there's very few U19 games left IIRC....but if he does get released at the end of January then his season is f'cked because he can't sign for anyone else outwith the transfer window can he?? :?

AFAIK, as long as he is a free agent when the window closes at midnight on January 31/February 1, then he can sign for anyone no problem. Should the club not officially release him until February 1 then he would only be able to sign amateur terms with another club.

Anybody know what their score was on Sunday past?

Under 19's won last night 6-1.
McCallum scored 4, Black scored 1 and an Irish trialist scored 1.
One of McCallums goals was scored from a fantastic set piece, it was braw.
Ross county is meant to be the top team will their boys all being full-time.
Well done to our young lads.

Well Saints pumped County 6-1 last night.......
Some neat football was played last night - they've clearly been watching the first team of late
I have nae idea of all the scorers....i lost count but McCallum scored two absolute peaches (i think he scored four in total), Black got one, as did Doreen *i think*.
Mooner and Black controlled play in the centre of midfield (the first time i have seen him in this position) and they worked well together, although the former having a quieter time of it! Black amazes me with his pace and vision - if he continues to get the right coaching then he will be some player, IMO. The same applies to Bobby Barr who was fantastic once again last night. Constantly talking to the side and organising others, linked up well with the strikers and turned their left back inside out all night. Also, McCallum deserves a mention for working his butt off against a big defence and scoring two cracking goals....
If Saints had a bit more luck on there side it could have been double figures for our goals tally!
Will we see Willie Dyer in first team on Saturday with Stanic being out? Will be interesting to see if he plays on Thursday afternoon.
chopper
05-04-2006, 10:01 AM
No chance of Dyer playing Thursday as Coyle mentioned him in yesterday's Courier as having already replaced Stanic, ironically enough at Glebe Park, earlier in the season and also against Clyde at Broadwood when he played the wing back role very well.

According to the league table here (http://www.scottishfootballleague.com/scottish_football_league.cfm?showtype=table&show=tablesyouth19&init=O&curpageid=1091) it shows Dundee are 3 points clear of Ross County and 5 clear of St. Mirren in a 19 team league.
Assuming everyone plays each other once for the league, it would mean Dundee need 2 points from their last 2 games or St. Mirren to drop points in either of their last 2 games.

This game was actually a League Cup section game. The 19s throughout the country are split into two sections, basically a west coast section and an east coast section.
Todays game was saints fourth sectional game and puts them top of the section with 10 points. All the other teams in the section have been cutting each other up and saints are probably a couple of wins away from winning the section. This would put them into the League Cup final against the winners of the west coast section.
Saints have played well in the last three games against three of the best teams in the league. I think this shows that when they are allowed to play football rather than a kicking match they shine.

Not sure but I really like the look of the guy O'Brien. He made an error on Saturday by all accounts but on the few occasions I've seen he's looked a good 'keeper although, putting it politely, he could benefit from full-time training.

Star man for Alloa was their goalie Blair Hutton which says it all for the amount of pressure that we had.

Nope - been wearing that one all season :)
Well done to the lads - a nice leaving present for 2 of them and a good way for Mooner/McCallum and Dyer to sign off from the 19s set up.

Excellent news to see Bobby Barr and Mark Gallagher signed up for next season!
Gallagher's been improving steadily throughout the season and will continue to improve training full time. Barr, well he's been well praised already by people who have seen the 19s.
Fairly strong squad for next season with the majority of them staying together, and i'm sure there'd be another two or three willing to sign up if they got the chance.
'Mon the youths! :D
