It's make or break for Saints with argueably one of the most exciting last day of the season scenarios in our history. The Championship is still very much in Gr£tna's hands and victory in Dingwall for them will render Saint's sterling efforts over the last few weeks as frustratingly fruitless.

I have said on other threads that Gr£tna will not beat Ross County on Saturday and I stand by that. It's all down to how Saints get on as far as I'm concerned and I'm not at all confident that we will win.

Come on then, convince me!

what have hamilton got to lose in this game, more importantly what have they got to gain 3 points phhhft i think thell let us win by one goal

they have pride and supporters to play for, there's no chance they'll lie down but with hopefully twice as many away fans to home fans, we should be able to pull a rabbit out the hat, i reckon 2-0 saints

Here's hoping the village people dont spoil the dream...

I think Saints will get a scrappy, and probably late, win but im just not too convinced about the County - Gretna outcome.

On one hand i see County going out and really taking the game to the village people and at least scraping a draw, but on the other i can see Gretna just scraping the result they need.

Id take any, and I mean any, combination of results if it meant avoiding the nightmare scenario....Gretna lose and we draw. Anything but that.

I'm confident we'll win next week. If we can take the game by the scruff of the neck early on then we could probably come away with another 3-0 win. There'll probably be a nervous start to the game but if we can put our foot on the ball, keep it on the ground then we can start passing it around and go for goal.

I'm certain Ross County will score next week but the question is, will Gretna be able to score, given they haven't scored in 3 or 4 games now?

Kevin James will probably be back and possibly Lawrie dropping to the bench but I would imagine the rest of the team will be the same as yesterday

Seems to be a split here and I'm in the camp that think County will do their part but worry, not about us, but about Hamilton, who are a very good side. They've not lost at home since 16th September and haven't lost a goal at home in the last 5 games. I can't for a second see Steve's prediction of 3-0 coming to pass so can only hope for a 1-0 and wouldn't be at all surprised to see Martin Hardie getting the goal.

Gretna have only actually scored in 4 of their last 11 games and have only won 5 games this year, compared to our 10. It's good that goal difference is out of the equation now as it would always be risky if we had to chase the game next week.

A lot of it could come down to who Hamilton (who will fancy their chances next season) would rather face next season, us or Gretna? Also it's a shame they didn't secure third yesterday as Dundee can still pip them to that.

It is only out of teh equation as far as we can do anything about it, it is still possible we can lose the league on doal difference. Gretna defeat and a saints draw is the nightmare scenario.

Mind you Ross County's home performances are better than their away record by a long way so hopefully they'll do something and at least get a draw.

It could go any way. Here is an example timeline -

St.Johnstone take the lead at Hamilton and the crowd go mad!
At this moment Saints are promoted if results stay the same.

Gretna score! :shock:
At this moment Gretna are promoted if results stay the same.

Hamilton equalise. :shock:
At this moment Gretna are promoted if results stay the same.

Ross County equalise! :D
At this moment Gretna are promoted if results stay the same.

Saints score! :D
At this moment Saints are promoted if results stay the same.

Hamilton get a penalty ....
Hamilton score! :sad:
At this moment Gretna are promoted if results stay the same.

Saints go all out for a winner!
Ball through to Jason, he body swerves inside the defender, then shoots high into the top of the net! GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL ! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

..................... and the afternoon continues as both games go into injury time. Will it be :cry: or :D .

One thing for sure it'll be - :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: - while waiting for the other result.

Indeed - I had recourse to this for much of yesterday. As if watching York having to strain every sinew to get all three points against ten-man Southport wasn't stressful enough, I must have spent the GDP of Luxemburg on mobile internet services keeping track of Saints & Gretna.

And this Saturday will be more of the same - York needing a point at home to Oxford to make the play-offs (and, hopefully, an appearance at Wemberlee) but still needing to keep an eye on goings on at Hamilton and Dingwall.

And I thought sport was supposed to good for your heart...

A few facts before the weekend....

*Gretna have not scored a goal in their last six games
*Gretna have not won away from home since 11th March
*Gretna have already been beaten by Ross County this season
*Ross County have not been beaten at home since 24th February *their only home loss in 2007.

I don't know why I thought that, maybe beause we beat them twice last year at Hamilton and it stuck. I should have checked. Accuracy, that's what we want. :cool:

For me this is going to be one heck of a journey, this weekend coming i was all set to be down in London with friends at a festival at earls court, had booked it back at the start of the year. (thinking we'd have the league wrapped up by now :p)

Was looking forward to heading down there for it, and didnt want to miss it, but in all honesty, after how things panned out on Saturday, theres no way i could miss the hamilton game, so i fly to London first thing Friday, bus it back up over night to be at the game saturday, then fly back down on saturday night, to fly back up on monday!

Unlikely that it will happen but I think it might be done on head-to-heads, so we'd win.

it would be decided upon goals scored if goal difference was equal

we had 5 players booked on sat, will any of them be suspended for the title clincher?

Unlikely that it will happen but I think it might be done on head-to-heads, so we'd win.
Surely there is no way it can be decided on goal difference other than a Saints draw, Gretna defeat as shown below.

If we win!
and they lose, we are champions by two points;
and they draw we are champions by one point;
and they win they are champions by one point.

If we draw!
and they lose, we are equal on points, but a draw is 0 goal difference and they are champions.

All other scenarios give Gretna the championship too -
Saints draw Grena draw;
Saints draw Gretna win;
Saints lose Gretna lose;
Saints lose Gretna draw;
Saints lose gretna win.

Ronaldo
23-04-2007, 03:47 PM
A Saints draw could only end in stalemate if Ross County win by seven goals. However if Ross County won by eight we'd be championeeeees! :) Unlikely.

Yeah, I was assuming Sam meant if that was all level too, which I don't even know if it can be.

Any points suspension takes 14 days to become active so any bookings on Saturday that took players past the 18 point thresholds won't count until next season. Ando already misses the 2 opening games. Looking at the others:

Stanic: 4th booking I reckon so he's fine, even if he gets a yellow on Saturday.

MacDonald: 3rd booking so no problem there.

Scotland: 1st booking since his last suspension so no problem.

McInnes: 4th booking so another that is safe.

Hardie: 2nd booking since last points suspension so should be fine.

I don't think any of our players are only a booking away from a suspension, not that that would play on their minds on Saturday anyway I suspect!

We managed to do it without him and McManus on Saturday - we can do it again. Infact, it might work in our favour due to the pace and the nippy wee shites Hamilton have playing for them!

Would still be tempted to start Morais with his pace against Accies - but then again, Willie takes a while to settle into a game and Morais is more likely to be the player to change the game when he comes on. Decisions for Coyle!

James, Peaso and KC all carrying knocks. James is a major doubt with his groin (and possibly the flu NS mentioned?) whilst Peaso hasn't trained all week and KC has hurt his finger. I remember when he broke it back in October/November they said it would always be weak. At least Halliwell got the game down at Gretna and he's supposedly going back to England in the summer so we don't need to worry that he's signed a pre-contract with Accies and his former boss!

Really hope Kevin James makes it though.

I disagree Scobby, I think we should go straight minto attack if the opportunity is there. We started slo against Celtic and Hibs and that was the difference between us and them. I'm not sayimng we should leave things open at the back, I'm saying attack is the best form of defence and I think Saints should start in high tempo. Too often we've started slow, like last Saturday for instance and the two cup games.

I woulld not like to see a less than fully fit Kevin James on the pitch from the start. I know how good he can be for us but the last time I was at NDP it was him who lost Offiong twice allowing Accies to score both their goals.
He would however be a massive inspiration to the fans and team mates coming on with 15 to go.

I spoke to Kevin James last night and he said he is fit and will be leading the team out at NDP on Saturday. I certainly think that his experience and particularly captaincy will be crucial in such a tense game especially if we are not in the position we want to be going into the last 20 minutes etc.

With this in mind, I think we will line up:

Ando......Lawrie.......James.........Stanic

It was indeed and Lawrie was at right back at Clyde with Ando in the centre. I see you are calling him "Ando" Jimmy, you must be softening to him!

I think Calloway's team - with Ando and Lawrie swapped - will be exactly how we'll line up but Savo might be on the bench instead of Jacko.

This is the first chance I have had to post all week !!!

I am SO looking forward to this week-end, which is unusual, as I am normally nervous about these sort of occasions. I feel pretty confident, but not in a cocky way, just feel that the tide is going in our favour.

If James plays, then fantastic. He is a fantastic Captain. I saw a report in a paper last weekend that he had signed a new 2 year deal, any truth to this ? If he doesn't make it, then Ando and Mensing played really well last week after a shakey start. Hopefully they can build on the confidence they gained from that performance.

We need a big performance from Jason. This is the ideal time for him to show the directors his worth to this club and what an invaluable player he could be for us if he managed to score us the goals that take us to the SPL. If he wants a new contract when we get promoted, then this is the chance to give himself some good negotiating power !

This is going to be like a home game for us with the number of fans we are taking, and I hope that we all make a huge amount of noise, just like we did at the cup semi-final. Let's get right behind the team from well before kick-off and give them the support they deserve to get them over the finish line !

C'mon you Saints !

Really looking forward to tomorrow, whatever happens it's going to be an exciting day. I'm extremely confident of a Saints win tomorrow, Hamilton a re a good team but we're going to be really up for this especially with a big crowd behind us. If I'm honest, I think Gretna will scrape a win at Dingwall (they're not bottom of the league for nothing) but if they don't then we need to make sure we take advantage.

Whatever you do tomorrow, whether you're in the ground, on the hill or sitting in a pub - sing your heart out for the boys!

Can't wait till tomorrow now. I've been getting more wound up all week, and then my daughter was ill last night so I thought I wasn't going to make it. She's getting better quickly. Gutted this morning, excited again this evening, and probably shiteing it tomorrow. It's going to be a nervous 90 minutes alright.

I hope QOS gub airdrie, because the Ross County fans'll get behind their team for a chance at survival. I hope Gretna - County is a draw, and gretna hit the woodwork 12 times in the last 5 minutes, because that would be all they deserve, and I hope we win in style for all the travelling fans.

Surely not much to ask!!!??

every time we've played there on a saturday i've gone to relations in carluke the night before, so i've never driven straight to hamilton- t'internet says 63.8 miles so i was thinking it'll take 1hr 20-ish to get to ground and get parked.

listen to the Davie Irons audio on the bbc site as well. He's given up hope!!! I think we should send him a keep the faith t-shirt for a laugh.

He thinks Gretna should be proud to be in the top two. If any other team in the 1st division had a quarter of the cash, they'd win by miles.

There are weekend roadworks on the M80. On the way to Hampden for the semifinal there was a bit of a hold up so I would allow a bit of extra time. Not sure how much though. (Not much help eh?)

You wont go far wrong with that estimate carharrt. I have done it in just a bleep over an hour on a good day just at 70 mph steady, but earlier this season it was about an hour and 25 due to a wee hold up at haggs.

Time for my prediction for this afternoon.

Gr£tna will fail to beat Ross County as I have said all week. I think this will end in a hard fought draw with a sprinkling of red cards. County had two off in their last game and are fighting for their lives.

Away win at Hamilton with Saints sneaking a very nervy one goal victory. Can't see past MMM for man of the match but the Cat's contribution could be crucial.

Time for a big performance from Saints' Derek McInnes.

Bring it on!
