The age old debate rages on, Do we need to sign a keeper during the transfer window? Or Are Cuthbert and Paston doing the job?

Cuthbert is playing some of his best football but lacks support from the defence in front of him. Paston has a near-permanent injury that is keeping him out so yes, I think we do need another backup keeper, but not as much as we need a midfield!!
The wording for the question is awful bad imo though.....

I'd still like to see us bring in a better keeper, but it's not a priority. We have other areas of the pitch that desperately need sorted out, whereas Cuthbert's form is pretty good right now.

a new keeper is the least of our worries just now, a new board of directors would be nice though and quite frankly a new set of coaching staff.
SOMEBODY has to take the flak.

I take it you will be up there to buy the club? Do you think you could do a better job?
Every time we play badly you have a go at the directors. I dont see people queuing up to take over.
If you bring a problem bring a solution, preferably one that is not in la la land.

you are the sort of supporter that this club loves, one who is happy to put up with the mediocre.
i merely suggested that our keeper is not the problem, its far more deeper than that.

there is nothing to answer, i am saying that its something far more deep rooted than our gk who is causing the continual slide at the club. it is not my job to bring solutions, thats up to the people who are running this club.

So what are the deep rooted issues? Its my belief that a lot of the players aren't good enough. The manager is making mistakes but is still learning.
As far as the board is concerned, they can't win, spend money we go close to bust they are damned, dont spend we don't go up they are damned.
I do agree though keeper is not the most pressing issue.

well thats what i basically said, i realise the other issues are not easily rectified, but there must be a way, as i say, not my job.

No we dont need another keeper......Cuthbert has been good for us, and remember we would of got done in by St.Mirren if it wasnt for the Cat
I think Everybody knows by now its the midfield thats letting us down

Cuthbert's fine but we might need a backup in the summer. Priority has to be given to sorting out the midfield / wingers.

What is the world coming to, I am now agreeing with Kevin in as much as the wording of this topic is bloody awful.
We need somebody in midfield who can hold the ball and make passes to his own team-mates and we need a captain who can lead by example, dish out constructive criticism when required and encourage others arround him to do better.

Have you ever heard or seen James encouraging or praising anybody? I haven't.

Has Cuthbert not improved a hell of a lot this season? I suppose none of that is down to Kevin James? Sure they have a few mix ups but Kev looks so much more confident. i agree that james has helped the cat a lot this year. a massive improvement on last season

Another person who cannot get any credit from you, take note to how he handles Anderson who has been guff lately, very encouraging... and if we had a Captain who just accepted all the pish on the park of late, I'd be fuming... Kev James as a captain is doing fine, his play aint the greatest just now, but that's another issue.

He has to with someone!?? Why not us, we are no world beaters and we cannot pick a manager that's proven to be good enough!

Paul Sturrock learnt his trade with us did he not, he had previous coaching roles but no managerial roles!

Because we're a small club - small clubs give new, young managers a first chance in the game from time to time. Personally, I have absolutely no problem with Saints doing that. Even Rangers and Celtic have done it in the not so distant past!

And to be fair at Brechin, he practically screamed Willie Dyer through the game giving praise every time as well. He is a good talker but he must stop and think about whether Cuthbert is better placed with a lot of these incidents (which, invariably, he is). The example I put forward is on Saturday, the ball had already gone out or been given offside and the ball was rolling towards Cuthbert (who hadn't heard the whistle) and James (who again hadn't heard the whistle) felt the need to swing his left foot through the ball and out for what would have been a throw in (despite Cat having no pressure from any Gretna player and nearly taking a swift boot to the chops for his trouble).

Agree Chopper, but to be fair, how did the communication go at this point... if (and i'll give him the benefit of the doubt) Cat had screamed it was his, then James was right to marshall it back from the Gretna striker who was somewhere behind him, but then the Cat slowed down (cus it was offside), did James realise this? Better safe than sorry.
