View Full Version : Edinburgh Saints Get Together
Tractor Boy

With pre season about to start thought it was about time to get this going again.
We have a list of already interested names and I know there are others interested. I suggest another get together in Mathers Bar.
For those that missed this last time. We are trying to get a group of Edinburgh based saints fans together and run a bus to selected games during the season. We had an initial meeting which was successful and some of us travelled together by train to the semi.
There seems to be loads of Edinburgh Saints out there so there is no reason that this shouldn’t work and we are not talking every week but selected games where there is sufficient interest. Even just meeting for a beer after a game now and again.
How about meeting in Mathers Bar (Broughton Street) either Fri 6/7 or Fri 13/7, depending on everyone’s availability. Appreciate this is over the holiday period so no worries if you can’t attend and we will keep you updated through this forum.
If you live in Perth and know any Edinburgh based supporters it would be great if you could bring this to their attention and ask them to get in touch.
What’s everyone’s thoughts??

Some new interest on this thread which is great. Looks like the 6th is looking marginally more popular but we'll leave it a few days. If you can't make the pub we'll make sure the forum is kept up to date.

Sorry been offline lately. I will go to Mathers on the 6th from about 6pm but if it's too short notice I'll also go on the 13th.
If you can't make either it's no problem I'll post an update on here.

Greetings! I have just got back from my holidays on Mull which consisted of a Carlsberg frenzy, and the ceromonial returning of my Saints scarf which I left at a mates house in Perth after the Celtic semi. His squaw washed it as well which was nice and there is STILL a whiff of Muirton pie grease on it.
Anyhoo, I will be up for a shandy or the like on the 13th after work.
All new folk welcome............I will supply the sheep on wheels (now with full working parts).
Hope to see some of you there.

Had a nightmare trying to get a bus for the Queens game. Tried loads of companies and they either can't do it or are way too expensive. Apparantly they are all so busy because of the Edin festival.
I think we should hold off and try and get a bus for the Morton game in September. This way we can get definite numbers well in advance and get the right size of bus. Unless of course someone knows of a really cheap bus company???

I would be up for going on the bus in the future. Couldn't have made QoS game as got a wedding (in Paisley of all places).
Got an appointment with a specialist about a longstanding foot injury next week, so if I'm told to give up playing football my Saturdays will be free to start watching Saints again.

Just a thought but since everyone is up for the trip to Dumfries and had all put the date aside we could all arrange to get the same train from Edinburgh to Lockerbie and then arrange for a bus to pick us up at that end (McEwans are the local bus folk doon there) to take us into Dumfries and back. At least that way it would still allow us to make the game especially given the interest from folk for the trip. Could be a bit more hassle than it's worth tho, but like I said, just a thought.

Good shout TP.
Tractor Boy and I have already discussed doing this and are both up for it. I have looked at train times. 0851 Edin - Carlisle (Arr 10.07) then 1055 Carlisle - Lockerbie (Arr 11.12) There are no direct Edin - Lockerbie trains in the morning. The service bus from Lockerbie to Dumfries goes every half hour (on the hour and half hour). and costs about £3.00 - takes 20 - 25 minutes.
Alternatively 09.51 Edin - Carlisle (arr 11.08) then 12.18 Carlisle - Dumfries (arr 12.55)
Coming back either the 17.30 Dumfries - Carlisle (arr 18.08) then 18.58 Carlisle - Edinburgh (arr 20.21). Or bus to Lockerbie and catch the same train there at 19.16 Any thoughts

Think the supporters bus(es) are heading to The Elizabethan before the game. It's right next to Dunfermline Queen Margaret train station (<5 min walk) and only about 10-15 mins walk away from East End Park. Either that or get off at Dunfermline Town and walk up the hill to find a pub in the town (although that's mainly where the home fans head!) If anyone wants directions to anywhere let me know and I will try and oblige!

31-08-2007, 09:13 PM
Should be a good turnout. Cheers Dunf Saint, our Fife companion wants to show us a couple of pubs in town, then I think the Elizabethan was mentioned. Come and join in if you see us!
Does anyone know what time the pub in the train station opens on a Sunday? I know it opens well early through the week. If its not gonna be open I suppose I'll head along for about half 11.
And we can all celebrate afterwards by watching the fireworks! (Or getting howling in Mathers.)

How's about 11.00 from Waverley - time for a shandy or two in Weegieland then train to Greenock. They run every half hour from Central to Cartsdyke - the station nearest Cappielow. If so meet at at Waverley 10.30

Phizzy, think we're gonna get the bus, train line to livi North seems to be closed, will post later when I know the exact plan.
Scobby, we still haven't put a bus on - that was the original plan, but after the first meeting a lot of us just started travelling to games together, it was more a social thing really, had some great days out so far.

Right folks....
Been on the phone to a few coach companies and I've got us a pretty good deal for the cup final, will def. be no more than £10 a head, could be as little as 7 depending on numbers.
SO....if everybody who's interested (and PLEASE, only if its definite as I really dont want to be out of pocket) could post up here how many places they need asap we can get this going. Told the guy I would get back to him by next Monday and he was fine with that. (we actually had a wee blether about Kevin James!)
St Jase & Mr registered-but-not-posted-yet, I dont think I'll be in the pub this week, could you see if any of the Saints glory hunters and the Pars lot want to join us?
Oh and Andy I sent you a p.m with my number for future boozing.
So get the names up folks, no need to thank me, large OVD will suffice!

You will need to get to Glasgow Central mate. Low level trains leave for Hamilton West every 20 mins or so. About two mins from the ground.

Good idea mate but count me out for the Midden game as I'm in Cardiff for the weekend. Bad planning me thinks.

12 o'clock it is. I'm guessing Tractor Boy is hitting his 350 yard drives on Saturday morning, so if anyone wants to start the party earlier I'll be in the Guildford from 11. Call me all the jakeys you want!

I'll be driving through leaving East Lothian at 1800Hrs (parents night at the school) before racing through. I have space for three if anyone wants picked up close to the bypass somewhere.

Any word on an Edinburgh bus for the semi final? I'd be interested in heading through for it if there was one being booked (plus 2 or 3 others).

We were talking about just getting the train and having a right good bevvy. You should still head through with us though. Thinking about 11 o'clcok or something as pubs wont open till 12 cos it's a sunday. Would be good if we could get a whole squad together like the Challenge Cup Final.
We're getting the train through too i think and starting early. i like the idea of there being a squad of us. If you let me know the plans we'll come with. The day after is a public holiday so bring it on!

Even though it's a Sunday, does the Iron Horse not open earlier than that?
I'll probably be at my girlfriend's in Paisley the night before the game, so will be getting the train into Glasgow from there. Definitely up for some beers before though, so let me know where you're going and I'll meet you there. Will be getting the train back through to Edinburgh after though.

Just checked, Iron Horse is half 12 on Sundays.
However...according to their website, the Counting House opens at 9 seven days a week. It may be a case of being able to drink as long as you buy food so this should be investigated.

I'm going from Edinburgh too, would like to go through and get a couple of beers - would rather be part of a group than on my tod, so hopefully I can join the rest of these embra saints?
Pretty sure it'll be a dry train though - usually is when there's football on.

Right folks, reckon the deal is this....11 a.m train to Glasgow, so we should endeavour to meet up in Waverley around 10.30, that way we can hopefully get cheap group tickets sorted out, and also ascertain if it's a dry train or no! (It wasn't for the semi last year but we did leave at 8 o'clock).
Get into Glasgow just before 12 and probably head for what used to be Buddha in Shawlands..that way the travelling is done and we can concentrate on the important stuff. (Its only about 10 mins walk to Hampden).
I've heard rumours that some of our number may be bringing bottles of coke laced with rum in case the train is dry... I could never condone such behaviour.
Get involved y'all - gonna be a belter.

Perfect, I've got to take the wee one to Livingston to my Mums on Sunday morning so the 4 of us can get the 9.54 train to town, arriving at 10.24! Lets say outside Coopers in the station for 10.30 with bottles of "juice" in hand:p
How many of us are getting this train thru out of interest? Theres me +3

Looks like there will be a fair squad on SUn. Totally mad for it.
