After last nights game I would like to see the following line up for Saturday

Based on the premise that Rocco and Rusty are fit, Hardie is fit (Which I believe is unlikley as he was seen at PRI on Monday this week getting an X-Ray on his leg) and that Delboy is not..

...................................... Main.....................................
Irvine.................Rusty...................... ...McManus.............Stanic

Weatherston...........Moon..........Hardie(Sheerin )...McLaren

.......................Deuchar..........Jackson... ...............

Subbies. Cuthbert,Sheerin,Quinn,Anderson,Daal,..

Looks good to me, would be great if we could play with 11 outfield players every game!! Ha!

Whereas Accies' side is very predictable, I'm not sure what Coyle will do on Saturday. 3-5-2 has worked ok for us so far but 4-4-2 worked well against Accies' 4-5-1 formation last season and the performances from Weatherston and McLaren last night must've given him food for thought.

Will be interesting to hear the team news on Friday as hopefully Coyle will at least have some options again, something he didn't have the luxury of last night.

I would bet a million pounds that Coyle will stick with the side that's played the last 2 league games, bannishing youth once more to the bench

I wouldn't say I'm 100% but I think we'll win.

Coyle pretty much gives his team away in the PA today but does reveal Jacko is one of the two mystery injuries.

We'll be back to 3-5-2 with Rutkiewicz and McInnes, at least, restored to the side.

What is Irvine like and moving forward ? or does he tend to stay back when we have Weatherston on the right wing ?

Really like the look of him to be honest, especially considering he has hardly any first team experience. Obviously there was a short settling in period but he's been really good in the last two games and with Goran on the other side we have a lot more balance that we did with Lawrie, Stevenson or Anderson playing there.

He gets forward well - his overlapping run to byeline created Jackson's goal at Morton - and already has a few assists to his name.

Looks like a good bit of business by Coyle, unfortunately that seems to be bucking the trend for some of his summer signings, two or three of whom probably won't last that long.

I agree he's very good. I still think they'll play 4-4-2 though.
I also hope Muzz's point about 'Big Cup Win Syndrome' is correct, it's happened to us - remember?.

Irvine----------Ando-----Rusty--------Goran

Weatherston---Quinn---Sheerin--------Mclaren

McManus will start.
Quite rightly as well. He's playing much better now.

Team news on the official site leads towards:

Main

Rutkiewicz - McManus - Anderson

Irvine - Quinn (if fit) - McInnes - Sheerin - Stanic

Jackson (if fit) - Deuchar

In other words the same team that played last week.

If Hardie makes it I'd expect Quinn to be on the bench if he's fit. If neither makes it then who knows. Peaso for Jacko if the former is fit and latter isn't. I think he'll go with John Stewart if neither makes it.

Hamilton will line up:

Halliwell

Parratt - Elebert - McLaughlin - Easton

McCarthy - McArthur - Neil - Taylor - Gilhaney

Offiong

If they sign Mensing, he might replace Stuart Taylor.

Surely we know Haliwell's weaknesses.

Becoming a joke. They should be wrapping the guys in cotton wool when we already have so many injuries.

Other team news, as on The Temple, is McCluskey and Hardie definitely out, Rutkiewicz doubtful but Quinn and Peaso should make it and McInnes and Main are available to return to the starting XI.

Least we are getting back to the stage where we have options again!

I vividly remember watchin sportscene back in the 80's when accies were in the Premier League. They were playing Aberdeen away from home and the commentaor, possibly Archie himself, had counted the away support to the grand total of 22, it was a big place to fill the old beach end at Pittodrie but it looked a desolate, cold, windy place on this particular day. Probably included in the 22 was the foul mouthed old keeyunt Fergie.

Saints:Main, Irvine, Stanic, McInnes, McManus, Anderson, Quinn, Sheerin, Deuchar, Jackson, McLaren.

Disappointed that Moon isn't starting after his excellent performance on Tuesday night. Once again McInnes makes a come back without performing to a particularly great level.

Who'd have thought that Taylor of all people would come back to haunt us! He's plopsy.

Are any other stay-at-homes or expats having problems listening to Sportsound on-line today? I usually listen to it from down here on-line on a Saturday for updates, but today I keep getting the message that the programme can't be broadcast to me "for contractual reasons". This affecting anyone else?? At the moment I'm having to make do with the nightmare that is Andy Walker and Derek Johnstone on Radio Clyde!!

Dont get too excitied DS. They sometimes do that, sometimes dont. Sometimes have half time updates, sometimes dont. It takes seconds to update a website so its no major task to give matchday updates but yet again is one that is beyond Saints.

I thought Hamilton were going to run all over us in the first 10 mins after they got a goal from a free kick for a dive. We got back in the game after that & should have been level by half time if it hadn`t been for Halliwell.
Dominated the second half when Oor Wullie came onto a game & Jacko & the Doc ran rings round their centre backs.

Jacko got MoM at the game but for me it was Irvine who was tremendous. How Celtic let him go & are playing Caldwell at right back I don`t know.

best performance of the season - I thought we dominated from the minute they scored there goal - should have scored in the first half as well. Having said that was our best performance must have been one of Hamilton's worst.

Gary Irvine was, in particular outstanding today

Right up the Accies, great win after a poor first half we completely destroyed those west coast B*******.

Their timewasting twat of a keeper was getting abuse from the Main Stand as well from yours truly and someone else a bit further down- he'll be winning feck all this year anyway.

Hamilton brought through a bumper crowd, or bumper for them anyway, about 20 odd more fans than usual making it about a hundred.

Offiong was mince throughout and walked off without shaking the managers of coach's hand.

There was a big *POP* at McDiarmid today- thats Hamiltons bubble well and truly burst- get it up ye!

Get it right up Hamiltons goalscorer as well after his celebrations, games are played over 90 minutes and leagues are won over a season you w*****!!!

We looked all over the place for the first 5 minutes but then after that were in command. Not too sure about the penalty but they get given against us. Is Jacko the next Parker !

Gary Irvine won everything at the back and Rocco looks a quality player. Maybe we should try and offer the money we had for Offiong to keep him at McDiarmid past the end of his loan

Hamilton do not look world beaters and the league looks wide open now

Must say that i was a bit dismayed at the first half, the ref was appalling for both sides, giving as many fouls as i have seen in one half of football ever.

2nd half different story, coyle must of given them the hair dryer treatment cos we came out all guns blazing. Superb performance 2nd half, totally over ran the accies midfield, Rocco Quinn played a stormer and was ably assisted by the rest of the team, special mentions to Gary Irvine (they sure must of taught quinn and irvine well at parkhead their first touches are magic) he played brilliantly throughout and looks lke a great signing. Front 2 now picking itself, dr goals leads the line very well winning a barrowload in the air and jacko's confidence is growing game by game, all in all a particulary pleasing afternoon.

Pathetic away support mind you circa 250, dire considering what they've acheived so far this season.

Good result for us.

First half - Hamilton came out hard and fast and scored within three minutes despite the efforts of Main and (I think) McManus who both got touches before it hit the net.

The game then developed in to the Eddie Smith show as the whistler decided he was more important than the match. Blowing for silly fouls, booking people for niggly wee fouls and letting others off with very similar incidents. He let Deuchar off with what he interpreted as a dive (he certainly went down easily although the leg was left in by Hamilton player), then booked a Hamilton player for something similar, then gave Hamilton a free kick when there was clearly no contact made.
In short, he was shocking, and was for both teams.

As the half progressed it was fairly open, with Hamilton forcing Main into one smart save from a header, while Halliwell had a similar save from Deuchar. Dr Goals also put one wide when he really should have hit the net after Sheerin set him up, and Sheerin also put one wide early on after some good link up play.

One decision Smith didn't get wrong was the penalty. Jackson was slipped in and the Hamilton defender had a huge tug at Jacko. Penalty given, although bizarrely no yellow card for a blatant foul when Jackson had a great shooting opporunity.

Sheerin tucked it away, and we took a real hold of the game, barely letting Hamilton out of their half.

We added a second with some good work by Mclaren and Quinn feeding Jackson who tucked it away nicely after having Halliwell make a good save from a similar chance minutes earlier.

The third came when Mclaren cut inside and unleashed a shot that was heading towards Halliwell's top corner. For some reason, Deuchar stuck his head in the way only for it to deflect off a Hamilton defender straight back into his path, and he couldn't miss from inside the six yard box.
The final goal was fairly simply - Long ball flicked on by Deuchar to Jackson who sent a superb lob over Halliwell.

I think based on the second half we deserved the win, and it was good to see us taking our chances and killing the game off. Hamilton only had one real chance in the second half, when their left midfielder basically walked past McManus down the left, cut inside and hit a shot that went just wide of Alan Main's top corner.

Great second half performances in particular from Irvine, Quinn, Jackson and Sheerin. If we can repeat that second half performance from now on we will move up the league.

Hamilton are exactly the same as they were last season, they play very predictable football. Gary Irvine up against Gilhaney was no contest, take him out of the game and Hamilton have no way of getting at Richard Offiong. Take him out of the game and you win 4-1.

Disappointed with Hamilton's unsporting attitude and physical play. Credit to Saints for playing fair and still hammering them. For spells I thought we were too soft in comparison, but what a performance second half. On the basis of today's game Offiong would be a complete waste of money. Did he win any ball today at all? Compare Offiong to Deuchar - who would you take? No contest for me.

Great result. Awesome to see Jackson in the team and scoring goals, and Deuchar scoring goals also. The other strikers in the team must almost be shitting themselves at the moment.

Huge moral boost for the team, good to hear Rocco and Irvine doing well, looks like some holes have been plugged.

Delighted for Andy Jackson today - it's been a very fine 7 days for him and just hope Coyle keeps him fairly grounded - which i wouldn't imagine will be a massive problem considering the plaudits he's been getting from his years in the youth set up - bit more pleasing when you watched a lot of their games and see things working out. Not many players have had that opportunity over the past 5 years at Saints to get a sustained run in the first team.

Was worried with our play during the first 5 minutes, was a goalmouth scramble in our box since the game kicked off and expected the goal to come sooner rather than later and it did. Was going over the line anyway but thought Deuchar was the last to get the touch? Says it all when he's back defending as he does so often..

However the first half was poor, largely down to the referee and there's not much to talk about.

Second half performance was different class and an absolute pleasure to watch. We fought together, controlled the game and got the breaks today for a goal or two, then building on that to an emphatic 4-1 win.

All in all a good TEAM performance and lets hope we maintain it.

Saints were back to their best, although can still play even better! The defence were sound asleep when they scored although Deuchar could claim an assist as he headed the ball straight into the path for their guy to score. By half time, we were getting closer to scoring and had 3 good chances.

Second half was a different story, total class! Silky soccer beat the physical stuff from Hamilton. Irvine was outstanding and he's gonna develop a great partnership with Weatherston, when he's fit again. Some good play from back to front. I'd like to see us get Quinn on a permanent deal, worked hard in the middle this afternoon. McLaren also played well despite it being only his second game this season.

I'd like to offer some praise to Derek McInnes. I thought he had a great game in the middle today, linked up well with Quinn to control the midfield. The other thing I noticed, not sure if anybody else did, was that he talked everyone through the game in a different way from the way James does. Main organised the defence but McInnes guided everyone else at set pieces and throw-ins. Well done Del!

Yeah quality team performance today, but especially the midfield!!

I thought thats the best the midfield has played for a long time.

I thought McInees was solid today and back to his form of last season, Sheerin and Quinn were superb and Mclaren was on a bit of form (well at times anyway).

Without doubt a man of the match performance from Gary Irvine.

The DJ partnership up front is looking really exciting!

All in all a good day at the office, keep it up Saints!

Excellent performance after a very shaky start. Not a poor player on the park (and that includes McInnes). Once we had the bit between the teeth we simply slaughtered them.

Jacko was great up front but the real improvement was in the midfield with McLaren having a good game on the right (two excellent assists) and Quinn looking better with every game. OC should be trying to sign him up now.

Best player on the park ironically though was Irvine - didn't put a foot wrong all afternoon.

Think I might enjoy my beer tonight....:) :) :)

Yeah a game of two forty-fives, but on the whole hamilton would need to improve to win this league and lets not get carried away, so would we! Overall im chuffed with the result that will finally ground Hamilton. The first half was pretty poor but hamilton were definetly better. We were and have been at time this season, horrendous at the back and had hamilton got a second early goal it could have been a different story! Anderson was at fault for the goal and although he had a great game, needs to cut out his errors. I could see why hamilton are top as they have some neat midfielders who play good football. But bar some nice play in the first half after the interval there was only one team, as the scoreline suggests!

Irvine was MoM easily as he drove the team forward right from the start. Thought the whole team played well and that jacko was a constant problem and with him and Deuchar we have a good partnership! I also think with a few games Mclaren could finally start to becoe a player for saints.

As for Offiong, Il accept he may have had an off day, but he was horse. However our defence gave him to much respect early on with silly fouls from anderson and mcmanus. We need to improve composure and tighten up at the back. That said the second half was a good display and hopefully with hardie, ruti and james back we can mount a challenge.

Both of Jackos goals were well taken, but The Docs was the jamiest goal ever, I do love when you get goals like that!!! Do none of the hamilton fans get annoyed at how slow halliwell takes kicks? He takes ages no matter if his team are infront or behind, no matter what stage of the game. Was like this with saints as well.

MON THE SAINTS!

Last three games against Hamilton we've scored four goals. Aggregate score over last four matches is 14-8 to Saints! Definitely not a game to miss!

Glad to see things coming together for the team again and for me a large part of it is down to consistency of selection, something which Hamilton had before Saturday. They were without two regulars (Neil and Elebert) and when they took some of their better players (Offiong, Taylor) off they looked a class below us.

Thought we played some cracking football.Rocco Quinn was brilliant ,do you think theres any chance we could sign him?Irvine played very well n all,his tackling is spot on and he`s got plenty of pace, some of his distribution was a touch suspect though.
We seem to have plenty of good options in midfield at the moment but are lacking them up front.Deuchar and Jackson offer a potent goal threat partnership but what other options do we have.Think Peaso has had his day and Savo has long term injury problems.Feel we definately need another good quality striker in order to mount a challenge for the title.
