So its here the BIGGEST game of the season a SEMI final of the Scottish league Challenge Cup, yeah ok just the challenge cup just trying to add some excitment, but wouldnt it be nice to reach a final for a wee day out?
Same again, after reading about the great team performance against Accies? How many of us are heading through, I Will!
C'mon The Yellows!!

This is their big game. The atmosphere will be formiddable and their players will once again spend most of the game on the ground feigning injury. I don't see us beating them. We didn't deal with Stevenson or Templemen at all well in the league game. We'll horse them when they come to McDiarmid Park though.

the momentum of yesterday's win would be a great confidence boost for this game
lets hope the boys are up for it and even though it is a diddy cup, it has been way too long since we won some silver ware

We didn't win there the last two times but we won the one before that which happens to be as far back as the 5th April 1997. It's good for the players to get another competitive run out to keep things ticking over and keep the improvement going. Have they lost Paul McGowan?
It should be a good game and good atmosphere.
I'll be heading through from Edinburgh, probably on my own. I'm confident we'll absolutely thrash them - if Morton were Saints' best mate, it would be the footballing equivalent of sleeping with his sister while his mum fed you her home-made flapjacks. Then putting it on YouTube.

Somebody asked me yesterday whether I'd like Saints to win the Challenge Cup or catch Dundee by Christmas and I obviously said both. However I think I'd take the latter if I had to choose. On the other hand the Challenge Cup would be the first national trophy Saints won apart from a lower division title and promotion, certainly the first national cup win. Mind you Ross County won it last year and got relegated.

It'll be the same as last Saturday, we'll be in the stand only.
I want us to win this game and this competition but not at the expense of our league form, which could be impacted by missing players through injury. Anyone carrying a knock really as to sit this one out IMO. Would think Rocco Quinn might be struggling for example.

Agreed. I would take a single extra point in the league over this trophy. We shouldn't risk anyone and if anybody is in need of a rest they should miss the game.

For those travelling down to Morton by car can I suggest that you cut off at Stirling and head over to balloch > dumbarton > erskine bridge. You still have the A9 roadworks to contend with but you miss all the ones in and around glasgow, its a much nicer journey too.

Got held up this morning at 7:00am for 5 minutes with the new roadworks southbound (towards Glasgow) just past Castlecary arches. There is a contraflow in place whioch resulted in queues of nearly 2 miles at 5:00pm last night and will do so again tonight. There is also a queue from junction 13 to the Kingston Bridge to contend with. Normal 1.5 hour journey will take about 2.5 - 3 hours tonight - make plenty of time for yourself!!

I can remember a classic Saints v Morton midweek game which may even have been in this same competition, during season 96/97 - I think Saints won 6-1 and George O'Boyle scored a hat-trick in the first 15 minutes or so?? Where's Radford to fill in the gaos when you need him!:D
Anyway, a similar result tonight and I may even smile! Briefly.

That certainly happened Mr Quinlank, although it was the season before the one you mention - 1995/96. Morton were really flying but Saints were on a great run which they ultimately continued for a lengthy period by winning the league at a canter the next season.
We might well have had the tartan third strip on that night.

It doesn't have to be a First Division ground, just an SFL one - no point giving money to the SPL when they're not involved.
I'd be happy with Stark's Park but it's a bit near to Dunfermline, just as Dens is for us. There doesn't seem to be a happy medium, so let's see if the SFL are bawbags and hold it at the originally scheduled Airdrie - since it has a good capacity and it's about equidistant for both teams!

Dens holds over 12 000 and might be the only one big enough.

Perth to Dundee is no different from Dunfermline to Edinburgh and with any other major cup tie we would be happy for it to go there. Still would.

Youre right of course but perhaps not the end of the world. Dont take this the wrong way but we scored 2 after he went off, including Peaso getting one. Maybe the Doctors influence is even greater than we thought and its him we should be more concerned about getting injured.

Probably about that, hard to say we took just short of that to Hamilton but never took that many to the last final (is our support growing?). It depends I guess how it now grabs the people of Perth. Its actually a cracking final for once between two big teams with a decent latent support

Another enjoyable game against a lively Morton side - better result this time though.
Saints are starting to play with some confidence. We are pretty much averaging 3 goals a game now with Jacko 6 goals in 6 games - we need to keep this up and waste Meadowbank on Saturday to keep the pressure on the top two. Thought the distribution from midfield was excellent tonight, with Rocco Quinn in particular causing Morton all sorts of problems getting the ball wide for Irvine, Stanic and McLaren. Defence were in the main solid, although if McManus (who I thought had a good game) and Ando can cut out the schoolboy brain melts that happen from time to time, it will make our ability to score even more telling.
MoM - Rocco. Del, Goran, Irvine, Chalky and Wizard put in great shifts.
On a side note, it's a bit of a shame to hear the Morton fans slag McInally on P&B. In the 2 games we've played there, they've proved that they can play some decent stuff coming forward. Defensively they're a bit dodgy, and that needs addressing, but I hope they survive - it's good to know there are teams out there that triy to play football for a change.

Just got in from the game. Was okay ,not the greatest game but what the hell, we,re all going to a final!!!!..Whole team played fine. Rocco was a stand out and I thought Sheerin played much better. A wee bit disappointed with McLaren who at time didn't look that interested and failed to reproduce his great play against Brechin but he was okay just about. The Cat let himself down and was a bit lucky a couple of times ..Last thing..That useless c**t Conroy should ask to be relieved of refereeing duties for ever more. He was just awful....

Have to be happy again with our performance last night. We are really trying to play nice football but mix it well with using Deuchar's presence, although he had the same sort of limited impact as in his last appearance against them.
Goal was a sloppy one to lose, with a massive gap between Ando and Goran but the guy finished well. Bizarre moment of the night was KC leaving a cross which then rattled the inside of his back post!
Good news about Jacko from the official site, would be a massive blow to lose him as although Peaso scored, he still looked a way off top form.
Rocco Quinn has proved me wrong. I thought he'd be lazy and dis-interested and generally pony but he's been superb, so much so Hardie may have to play right midfield when he's fit. If he's proved me wrong though, there's a good few folk owe Derek McInnes some credit, he's been excellent in the past few games. When McInnes plays well, Saints play well.

A question for Kevins Cappielow Counterpart?
Wheres you brand new combine harvester now ya D*ck!
Altogether now!
'Oh I've got a brand new combine harvester and you can kiss my ar*e'
:D
It's funny when clubs play that to us. It's a compliment as combine harvesters cost in excess of £200,000. SO that means they are jealous tinky b's!

good final - just what the sponsors wanted. Great result tonight, wish the win was in the league all the same.
reckon it will be Falkirk or Dundee for final.

thanks :) exactly!
Im just thnking that McDiarmid has hosted the final the last few years, tell me one good reason why it should not be played there this season... We could get changed in the away dressing room if we really need too.

I think it has to be a neutral ground......
Although having seen 1884's post about the date being changed, who knows? They really do not care about this competition do they?

It was at least 50 yards. I know that because I once caught a fish which was exactly the same length.
