The new Strokes album is not very impressive IMO. Went to the Corn Exchange gig last Friday and they played very little new stuff (maybe 5 songs at most), but near enough the whole of Room on Fire - says a lot about the new album.
From the couple of tracks I have heard, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are definitely one of the next musical purchases.

I have an old cassette by 808 State through the house somewhere, it is silver coloured but can't remember it off hand. I play it now and again and it is great, really technically dreamy stuff.
I also have two CD's by Massive Attack - Protected and Mezzanine. They are a fantastic band and in fact you can get a combination of these two albums in their new greatest hits kinda album (collected?). Another talented band that came out of Bristol in the 90's at the same time were Portishead. Got some of their stuff. 8)

Free bird is fantastic. I remember being in many bars when that went down a storm. One of these bars was called the Red Weblet, a bar just as you came in the Salutation Hotel to the left and was the Blue Web's wee brother.Lynnard Skynnard were from Wendy's Alabama but unfortunately the key figures dies in a plane crash..

This week I've mostly listening to:
The new Tool album - alright, a bit too much like the last one
Dinosaur Jr. in preparation for last night
David Bowie's Hunky Dory as it's the only decent CD I have in the lab
Husker Du
and I've been reading "Our Band Could Be Your Life" by Michael Azerrad about the rise and fall of the American underground '81-'91 (Black Flag, Minutemen, Fugazi, Sonic Youth, Dionsaur Jr. etc...) which is highly recommended for fans of that era.

"What are you called?!"... in a rare moment of genius from myself... "Kula Faker!"... and so the whole scam went on with us thinking nothing of it, in fact not even remembering the conversation, that is until the next Thursday when we walked in to be met with posters proclaiming that Kula Faker were playing that night... time for a sharp exit!!!
