One week from now we will be either cup winners or saying " Aw it wiz just adiddy cup anyway". So what are we thinking team wise and tactics wise, are we confident or are we worried???. Are we gonna PARTY????. Not much news coming out of the club just now..Will Savo make the bench????Will Willie get a game and play a blinder??? Will there be any goals??? Can we do it?? Finally , will we have a manager for the game???
I think it will be a great game with Saints winning by the odd goal in 5 , with Savo coming of the bech to score a late winner. OC will still be with us and Willie will play a.... (maybe I,m going to far ???)
Lets lift the roof off that hole next week ,get right behind the team and follow the Saints to the end of the road to glory.....
Come on you Saints

Yeh I am struggling to get buzzing for this one actually. The fact that the pars fans are solely trying to make the game a joke by not going doesn't help.
Shame we are not playing a team like Morton, Dundee, etc that would get out in numbers and support their team in a final.
That said, be up for it on the day, and hopefully we can lift the cup.

I'm really looking forward to it but would be lying if I said I was confident. Should be a great atmosphere in the Saints end and it should be a decent game, even the last couple of nil eaches haven't been the worst games of football ever.
Going with no expectations of winning though so should make it all the better if we do manage it.
Look forward to hearing the team news as the week develops but it's sure to be a game all the players want to play in and a month ago the XI picked itself but I'd reckon there are now a few spaces up for grabs.

It'd be great to see a few changes, and I hope I'm wrong but I think with having last week off he'll stick with the same side, magically hoping 2 weeks will have made McClaren a right sided midfielder and Sheerin a pacy winger. You never know! :o

Sadly I think Coyle will stick with exactly the same team yet again despite a "freshening up" being required in a couple of positions.
This has probably been mentioned elsewhere but what is the current situation about Hardie? Club seem to have been pretty quiet about it, having him back and playing like he did in the second half of last season would transform the midfield.

Im looking forward to this game and dont care what cup it is! I would like to see saints win any cup doesnt matter if its a diddy cup or not! Dunfermline still think they should be in th SPL and they have got to realise that they are now in the 1st division! Im not totally confident about the game after the last 2 times we have met but lets hope that the crowd get behind the team and make as much noise as possible.C'mon Saints!

I am also looking forward to this game. Yes, it's not as exciting as the semi-final at Hampden last year, but it is still the final of a national cup.
Extremely disapointed with the Dunfermline fans attitude, but hey, we can get behind our team and hopefully give them an extra lift that they won't be able to get from their fans.

Okay, so we are losing our manager which is a bit of a blow ( or not depending on your views) but we've got a cup final coming up on Sunday and I can't believe how low key we are being about it....
Lets look forward to the biggest game of the season so far with a trophy waiting for us if we can do the business and a great day out as well. Team selection is a bit tricky as we aint sure who,s going to pick it, but the best news of all is the return of Savo who will take some part in the game i think and also the outside chance that the mad mental one might make the bench
4000+ Saintees will fill Dens with a barrage of noise and a huge splash of colour and even if the dicks from fermline only bring 1000 it still promises to be a day to remember( hopefully for all the right reasons). as for the team????

no McLaren Very,Very Very,Very hopeful...
On Hardie I read a qutoe from OC saying he was very near and might just might make the squad...Can,t recall where iI read it...Maybe it was a dream?????
On Savo . I was told bye a reliable source from within the club that he was giving OC a problem and that he just might make the starting 11.....

This is why you have a big squad. You can have players who are good in the league for matches that count but rest them and bring in the players who are good in closed door games, under-19 games, friendlies against 4th Division sides and Forfarshire Cup matches.:)

Right, sod the Owen Coyle threads we've got a cup to win!
I'm beginning to get excited about Sunday now, should be a decent Saints crowd and a decent atmosphere (from us anyway). It'll be interesting to see what changes SS makes. Personally, I hope we go right at them from the start and finish the game by half-time like we did when we beat the coags 5-1 at Dens in the same competition.
'mon the Saints!

In a funny way I think Coyle's departure will give the team a huge boost for Sunday - I think they'll want to go out and win it for him more than ever, plus the team will now be blessed with the free-from-shackles relaxation which practically always boosts a team when it suddenly finds itself under the charge of a caretaker.
I think Sunday's game will be a very exciting and open one, and will very possibly end in Saints lifting a trophy. To anyone out there who still doesn't have a ticket - get your rear in gear and get behind the Saints!!

I,d be happy if he just concentrated on the game ,played well and then at the final whistle if he wanted to drop his kecks, flash his arse at the Pars fans, then pulled a can of lager from a hole behind the goal and sprayed us all with it whilst simultaniously chinning a Dundee polis I would have no objections at all.We need a good goalie , not a fecking performing monkey:wink:

Watching the game online - Saints looked very sharp going 3-0 up. Should maybe have had another penalty when Quinn looked to be fouled when lining up a shot. Couple minutes later Dunfermline pulled one back.
Hopefully Stewart will give Saints a good half time talk and get them back to how they started.

Had Rocco's fairly strong claim for a penalty been given I think we would have really destroyed them, but them scoring just after it was refused gave them a bit of hope, and we really took the foot off the gas. First half hour Saints were outstanding, but then Dunfermline were dreadful until their goal.

What a great great day!
I have sooo many images that i never want to forget!
Seeing saints win a cup is just so fantastic that i really can't put it into words!
After leaving pub after game i had the pleasure of walking past the team bus, gave it a big YAAAAASSS, the players seemed pleased, but getting the YAAAAASSS back from Alan Main really topped it off.
Pleased as punch!
On a final note, Alan Main giving it the "we won it at dens" was brilliant! However, i have never seen a saints support like today, were we at a funeral until full time? Sure felt like it

Though we were very lucky today. First 30mins we were fantastic then stopped playing.
The defence inc Main were having a torrid time with the pacy Dunfermline forwards.
Anyway its a cup.
Had to laugh when I seen some of the original Perth Pack in the crowd singing there is only one John Pelosi.
Happy days.:)

Cracking first 30 minutes (could have been 5 or 6), dodgy after they made the change. Decent start to the second half, rest of the game ruined by crap refereeing and panic stations defending. Who cares though? We won a cup! At Dens! Now we've got a taste for it we'll surely win the league and Scottish Cup this year too! I'm off to get drunk. 'mon the Saints!!!!!!!

We have won our first cup- FANTASTIC!
As for the game it was a very entertaining game of football, Saints can't win a game easily can they!!!! Dunfermline were VERY POOR for the first twenty-five minutes, their defence was a shambles!!
We then sat back and let them get back into it. It was lucky that shot at the end of the first-half hit the post (aswell as Mains fantastic save)
McInnes, Anderson and Deucher all played very well. Great to see Savo and Mental back!
To make it even better, Me and my mate headed to McD to see the team we usually play with playing their second half up the astro and the team bus came in. I nice wee signature from MOM Deucher on my programme. Happy days like being twelve again!

I'm also glad OC didn't come on the pitch at the end - he's gone. No matter how much he was involved in the build-up, today was about Sandy Stewart and the players. They've stayed, he didn't (of course Sandy will probably leave tomorrow :)).

Fantastic result, although we made it hard for ourselves. Dunermline made a change after we went 3-0 up, and it was the old story of a team changing their tactics and us failing to match them.
We were unstoppable in the first 30 minutes of the game, with all 3 forward players giving their defence nightmares. Dunfermline are a poor team.
I thought Duechar was deservedly MOM, although he didn;t get a lot of service in the second half.
Absolutely delighted tonight.

After 30 mins I thought we were gonna knock 5 or 6 past them , we were fantastic was like watching Arsenal, ok mabey Ive drank a bit too much but very nice football
The we let them in, and too be honest the Dunfermline players at the end deserved a good round of applause, as they played there part in a very good cup final( for the neutral) and would have been so easy to crumble after going 3 down.
Well pleased for the Saints today though, Oh when the Saints went to lift the diddy cup I was there!!!

Dunfermline deserve a lot of credit for making a game of it after losing 3 in the first 30 mins & all but Scott Wilson stayed on to applaud Saints. If they play like they did second half they will be nearer the top than bottom at the end of the season.
Saints did enough in the first 30 mins to win the game & were brilliant. Midfield disappeared in the second half & Stanic & Irvine had to come inside to cover leaving room on the wings.

thought first forty was best we`ve played in a long time, every time we attacked it looked like it could end up in the net. Then the pars score out of nothing and all of a sudden we`re panicking. Bad refereeing decision to give them a penalty it was like he was doing his best to get them back into the game.
The boys deserve credit for hanging on after that and great to see MMM and Savo back it gives the team another boost.

Most has been said but I was glad to see Saints playing 4-3-3 and Squad players reappearing. Great first 30 minutes and then we held out for an hour. :) I thought we should have had another penalty when Rocco's legs were taken from him. Also their penalty looked outside the box. Dodgy linesperson. Doc Deuchars was definitely the man of the match. The 3rd goal he confused their defensive centre backs and just slotted really well. He reminds me of Roddy sometimes. Alan Main looked as iof he was enjoying himself. Good to see all the players out on the podium at the end even though the podium was a bit small :***: and people were falling off while celebrating. That's what I'm doing now.

Only saw one of the cars involved - a red one, dunno the make. Looked like there was 2 kids involved also (not sure though). This was before the match.

I was on the phone about my SKY satellite account and a female call-person advisor asked me my password and I said it to her and she said "Oh so you're a St.Johnstone fan?" :***: "I'm a Dunfermline fan <blah>" and we continued to discuss all things SKY and football. Then at the end she said "May the best team win and it'll no be us!"
She was right. Very poor crowd from them, their fans are not appearing - low morale.
My heads still spinning( might be then lager) great start, then sat back, then got pummeled, then won the cup. Good enough!!!!
Well done Saintees , Well done Sandy Stewart............WINNERS
keep blowin yer foghorn leghorn then

Too right! In total contrast to Stevie Crawford who even gave the Saints fans a clap as he went off.

Agree it was a good showing by the Pars players. They showed real sportsmanship and helped to make the final a fantastic game of football.
As for Wilson, he is a positively awful player! Crap at passing, can tackle and rubbish in the air. He's also a prat for walking off and I hope Kenny throws the book at him!
Though we were very lucky today. First 30mins we were fantastic then stopped playing.
The defence inc Main were having a torrid time with the pacy Dunfermline forwards.
Happy days.:)
What a shambles of a presentation.
Well done saints. Waited a looooooooooooooong time for that!!!
Totally agree with what you say though SC. No wonder we had loads of hairy moments as Main did not inspire confidence at all. He didnt know when to come out, when to punch or when to catch. Not exactly reassuring for the guys in front of him!
The presentation was a joke. Talk about sod the fans, just make sure its a good photo op! Looking at Real Madrids pics, all that most folk behind the goal would have seen was the players backs when the cup was handed over. The main stand view wasnt too much better. Technically I still havent see Saints actually lift a cup!!! (Also have to say slapped wrists to the team for not parading the cup in front of the main stand. There were lots of folk with cameras/phones at the ready but all we got was a few waves as everyone left the pitch.)
Thought the Dunfermline players, apart from a certain captain of course, deserve praise for staying on the pitch for the full presentation.
Shall be replaying the good doctors goal in my mind for years to come. Sooooooperb!!!:p

Had a fantastic day yesterday. First game of the season due to travel distance (glory hunter I know...) and we were magnificent first half hour. Rocco Quinn was outstanding, as was Deucher. We were helped though by some truly comical defending - Scott Wilson is the biggest diddy thug I've ever seen and Bamba for the Doc's goal...jesus,if he was my player he'd never be on the park again after that.
We then did what we always do when in a comfortable position - concede and go on to panic for the rest of the game. For a team who's main attribute is supposed to be experience, we seem to lack any cool heads when put under pressure. The second half was torture. This lack of composure is something the new boss will have to sort out.
Didnae matter in the end though, cos we won! Get in. Presentation was a shambles though.

It was good to see the Dunfermline players except Wilson applauding the Saints team and then the Saints fans and it was good to see most of the Saints fans applauding Dunfermline when they went to pick up their medals

When you look back it was a pretty decent game though. I don't think i enjoyed most of it because it was so tense but on reflection would have been great for a neutral!

It was my first time seeing Rocco thanks to the power of the internet, and he looks like a talent. I hope we can keep him.

Forgot about that. Your right, they got a good reception. Maybe that why they were applauding the Saints fans as they went off.

Apart from their captain who went off in the huff before Saints got the trophy. Was speaking a Dunfermline fan today who wasn't surprsed by his actions and can't understand why he is captain.

Maybe he got the idea from our soon to be managers actions after the Thistle game!
I didnt read it but the programme had an article about Dunfermline being on their 5th captain this season so maybe that explains why he isnt ideal captaincy material.

Was it just me or did anybody else think that 'always look on the bright side of life' was a bit rude at the final whistle haha?

Certainly wasnt the best tune to play at that time!
Mind you, the whole thing just didnt feel right. It didnt feel like a ntional final, more like another away game that we got a cup at the end. A lot of that was down to Dens. It just isnt good enough to hold a final. What a dump.

Yeah why they had to pick dens is beyond me, what a dump!

That was my first trip to Dens - the mainstand was disgusting. Apart from being really quite scummy, I was sitting up near the back of the main stand and the view was like looking through a letter box, any ball in the air disappeared from sight and there were always pillars in the way. The one consolation was that in each half most of the action was right in front of us.

Did folks see the article about teh game in Monday's Sun paper... very good...
I was saying that the cup wouldn't get such a hard time if the media did their part in bumming it up somewhat... the guy who wrote this should be promoted to PR for the Cahllenge Cup... very good work.
