Midfielder Jamie Winter is poised to leave Aberdeen on loan to First Division St Johnstone.

What's everyones opinion on signing him for the remainder of the season.?

From the SPL highlights he looks a good player. Hopefully he will sign for Saturday as it will be nice to see some fresh faces in the midfield :D

Wouldn't be too unhappy with this signing. Never seen him play, but he joined Aberdeen from Leeds with a good reputation and played for them for most of the second half of last season.

I think he's supposed to be a box-to-box midfielder, so in that sense he could be a good addition. But I'd be worried if it was just a loan deal with no option for a permanent contract - I'd don't think he's such a fantastic player that he's going to make a massive difference from now to the end of the season only, and I feel we need to be building for the longer term rather than just trying to acheive the unlikely goal of clawing back the midden this season.

Could it be that OC is hoping that it would be a loan withg a view to permanent transfer? ala Dobbie?

Anyone got any Dons supporting mates? What's their view on him?

The Sun reports today that we have Winter on loan. When he came up from England Calderwood had marked him as one for the future so we may be lucky to get him on a permanent deal at the end of the season. My Dons supporting mate thinks Muirhead may be on his way to us also.

The problem is if he comes here and plays brilliant they will just want him back. On the other hand, if he comes and does terrible we wouldn't want him. Loans are a means to an end - they don't really help the club in the long run. If it helps us catch St Midden though then fair enough. I wouldn't turn down ronaldinho on loan :D

BBC are also reporting that the Pars are after Muirhead.

Not to happy about all this loan signing stuff. Where does this really leave us for next year.......IMO with exactly the same holes and problems we have right now

What if, Owen has targets that he cannot get till the end of this season? What if Owen would sign a certain player if he knew what division we'd be in or who was in the division etc?

Its the way of football now, and we need to make the most of it... i'd rather we filled a gap on a temporary basis than left it unfilled.

Not too hapy with loan signings either but as Kev says it may be to fill a hole untill close season when OC can get Hardie & a few others in.
Anyway, half the SPL teams have OF players on loan so why are we too good for loan players.

Would be a decent signing IMO... Will go ask some aberdeen fans just now about him... see what the concensus is

This came from a brutally honest aberdeen supporter

"He's looked promising so far, comfortable defensively and not too bad going forward, very raw but has good potential, has got a great shot on him as well. He's like a very poor man's Frank Lampard. Should do ok in division 1."

Very trustworthy when it comes to assessing players.

Sounds like a decent signing for the first division IMO.

I've Seen winter on about 4/5 occasions this season (the joys of client entertaining at pittodrie) he would be a good guy to have, loan or otherwise.

Anderson hasn't been playing wing back in a 3, he plays central. Stevo has been right wing back.

Well as a dandy don, using this site for team news etc for betting purposes i've give you my opinion on Jamie Winter. Doesn't seem to get involved enough for me in the midfield for Aberdeen, the game seems to by pass him. He has played as a sweeper and done quite well there against Celtic got many fans man of the match that day and he really did well. Next game he was in the midfield and got subbed in the second half after being very poor. I'm not a big fan of Winter to be honest but he is still young enough to make it in the game and for a positive i suppose Brian Punty Airdrie Striker was really gash at Aberdeen and i didn't think he would ever do well but he's scored 10 goals for Airdrie this season. Also a positive Mackie went to Inverness CT when they was a first division team and did quite well there on loan and become a better player for it.

I was reading after the Gretna game you think your midfield is very weak, and maybe its a short term but if it helps you team till the summer and get a decent midfielder in the summer.

Good luck for the rest of the season

Correct but he could go back to a back four and then drop Anderson for Mensing at rightback

Oh the joys of football - so far I have heard he is a box to box midfielder, he disappears from the game and lets it pass him by, he is a great prospect, he is loved by some hated by others but the burning question has not been asked - can he stay injury free while with us :?:

Heres hoping he can and does do the business for us.

Never a box to box player thats for sure, not a great tackler either got a bit of skill also a decent hit on him as you could see with the Celtic game, but for me he's disappointing as the game seems to bypass him quite a bit.

Aberdeen fans are mixed on the opinion of him leaving on loan to be honest, so call him crap some call him a good prospect. But i've watch enough of him in Reserves and first team and have been disappointed on him so far, i also rate Kyle Macaulay higher who hasn't really had a chance in the first team although has impressed me in U19's and Reserves. Thought Winter was poor against Rangers Reserves on tuesday night although he taken his goal very well but he wasn't great but neither was most of our team or Rangers reserves in the 2-2 draw. Off the top of my head i can't remember Winter had any injury problems. Aberdeen midfield has been terrible this season and it lacks creative players but many fans blame the strikers but Crawford and Mackie or Lovell has to go back to get the ball, i hope Winter will do a job for you and come back a better player that might have a future at my club.

By the way i heard he was moving to St Johnstone on loan 2 weeks ago.

From the beeb

St Johnstone have taken midfielder Jamie Winter on loan from Aberdeen until the end of the season.
The Perth side have also released Steven McManus, who will join Montrose, and cancelled the contract of goalkeeper Mark Paston.

"Jamie is here on the understanding that he will definitely be returning to Pittodrie in the summer," Saints boss Owen Coyle told the club website.

"At 20 Jamie is at a great age and he will definitely enhance our side."

Winter signed a two-and-a-half year deal with Aberdeen last November after agreeing a switch from Leeds United.

He has made just five starts this season but the Dons have high hopes for him.

"I tried to sign him when I first came to the club but it was clear that Jimmy Calderwood at Aberdeen rates him very highly," added Coyle.

"I had to pester Jimmy over a long period of time to get him to allow Jamie to come here but he agrees that it would be best for Jamie to play week in, week out for a spell."

The release of Paston may clear the way for Matt Glennon to move from Falkirk to McDiarmid Park.
