So does this mean its the end for Dobbie? Its become pretty clear that Coyle has very little faith in him, and with Peaso and Milne due to come back from injury soon, and Jackson and Doris pushing for more first team involvement, could he leave before the deadline?

He could do, but i don't think he will.
Peaso and savo could easily oick up a set back. So it would be foolish to be left short.

Cant morrow play on whichever his preferred wing is too?

I have seen Morrow twice during midweek games and I was very impressed.
He is having difficulty getting into their side because of the Scottish striker duo of Riordan and O'****or but could easily play theO'Connor role. I think Hibs are not keen to let him go permanently because they may lose a striker at the end of the season. According to friends in Edinburgh he got a wee bit disillusioned at Ipswich and of course Mowbrey knew him from there. He has played in the Northern Ireland youth and U21 teams. He holds the ball well from what I seen but then again that was only twice.

Tony Mowbray described the signing of Sam as 'opportune', the Hibs boss aware of the young strikers abilities at his own home-town club, Ipswich. When Tony heard that Sam was available, he quickly moved to make Morrow his second signing of the summer of 2004. A Northern Ireland Under-21 international, Sam has shown himself to be a valuable asset making 28 appearances mostly from the bench last season, goals a little more difficult to come by for the striker but he did find the target 3 times.

Another loan deal!. May be the best way to do it. If he is good Hibs will keep him or some other team will sign him. If he is ordinary like Dobie we will probably sign him. Hope we can now loan Dobie out or sell him before wednesday.

I find it very short-sighted of people to want rid of Dobbie. Have people decided just to blank out how good he was for us at the end of last season and the beginning of this one? Everyone who attends games regularly has seen that he's capable of playing very well for us - so would it not be more productive of the management to actually try to get him playing to that standard again, instead of simply punting him because he's lost form? I sometimes wonder if people even realise the difference between a bad player and someone who is just off form.
I think Dobbie still has the ability to do very well for us, and it's surely a better idea to start getting the best out of a player who's actually ours, than replacing him with a short-term loan option?
I agree, BH. You dinnae become a bad player overnight. So the guy's off form just now. Maybe lacking in confidence a wee bit too. But he deserves a chance to come back into things.

I think what we are crying out for at the moment is a player who can win the ball and physically challenge defenders in the air. We still punt the ball allot (albeit not as much) and between coyle/dobbie/milne/Scotland/Jackson we struggle badly in the air. Also, we put some great crosses in on sat from open play yet we are never realistically going to win a header. Its a shame really as there was some great build up play down the line.

im sure people on here were screaming and shouting for more stuff that you have just mentioned but it seems that once some gets down the line they have no options.

I'm certainly not advocating that Dobbie should be punted. He was excellent at the end of last season and beginning of this, and I think he's been treated pretty badly by Coyle. As soon as Scotland came in, he went straight into the team and we've not really seen Dobbie since, and I think its telling that Coyle (while still able to offer a lot to the team) has been more comfortable playing himself rather than Dobbie recently.
I'd much rather see Dobbie given more of a chance in the first team, but its become abundantly clear that Coyle doesn't have any faith in him, for whatever reason, otherwise why would he even be looking to sign another striker? On paper we have plenty of options in that position anyway. That's why I wouldn't be surprised if he did leave, maybe on loan, before Tuesday.

To be fair Dobbie hasn't exactly taken the chances when they've been given to him (eg when Scotland went off at Airdrie). I don't think he's showing the hunger that will keep him near the first team once the likes of Peaso or Savo are fit again.

Could this signing now free up Scotland to roam in attack and playing just behind our strikers?

IIRC, Coyle moved James up front shortly after the Dobster came on and started to play the 'let's punt high balls up the park' game, renderring the Dobster a mere onlooker.

The excuses can only extend so far. I like Stephen Dobbie and was sticking up for him for a while but the fact is he hasn't done anything in any of the appearances he's had, however brief they may have been. I don't see what people expect Owen to do here? We are chasing the title so there's no way we can afford to give him two, three, four games to settle back into the side in the hope he produces his form of earlier in the season. If he isn't doing the business you bring in someone that will.
Again, the arguement of how vital a 90mins each week are for players....whether it be First team, reserves, bounce games whatever!
You can say it's all the Dobster's fault, he's not doing anything blah blah, but he needs a chance, he needs confidence and he needs someone to instill this confidence in him - a few goals would, but the management team need to aswell, he has some ability, and we need to use it.
At Airdrie, and at home to Dundee, Dobs was brought on only for James to be pushed upfront to nod the balls down- Dobbie is not a runner. you are asking him to do a job which he can't do!

I'd be happy for him to go out on loan as I do believe he could do a job for us, we don't have the opportunity to let him get his form back though.
Now, i agree on that. But what is wrong with provisionally organising bounce games every week with various clubs - of all levels and confirming it at the start of the week for midweek depending on squad availability? If he was to get around 4 90mins under his belt, score a few goals then i bet he'd be back on form.
Maybe i am being naive, but if we work to helping him, rather than letting him do it himself then it might spur him on!
At the end of the day, he along with so many others are getting paid for training 4 days a week and doing either nothing or a short, short stint at the end of the week eh?

Missed my point, i mean 4 games in 4 weeks - so he is getting a game every week to get him up to scratch. We will have peaso coming back too so it owuld benefit him.
And yes, he has had more than 4 games - but in what timescale?? EVERY WEEK and Dobs will be on his way!

dobbie isnt all that bad its hos lack of games that are losing his confidence, at the start of the season when he started he scored 5 goals in 8 games did he not which suggests he is deadly when he has the ball in the 18 yard area

Ok, well you know more than me then. I wasn't under the impression they were.
Who were these bounce games against then? Results? I take it they were the past few weeks and you were using your 'holidays' to watch these?

With Rangers bidding and Celtic interested in Riordan then this potential deal may possibly be off.
