I see there is a programme fayer coming up at McyD... is this the sort of thing that I could go to with shoe boxes full of programmes and they'd buy them off me?
Also, I note from Saturday that the usual suspect, Radford was dropped... well Radder's, was it dropped for the week for a rest orhave you picked up a tricky knock and will be absent for a month or so :)
Official site says...
Football programme collecting continues to be a popular hobby across the UK and the Club are pleased to announce the inaugural St Johnstone FC Programme Fair which will be held in the Muirton Suite at McDiarmid Park on Sunday 19th February 2006.
Three of ScotlandÂ’s top programme dealers will be in attendance and there will also be a display of St Johnstone programmes and other archive material.
The event runs from 11am to 3pm, admission is free and there will be a complimentary pack of programmes for younger collectors.

Honestly?
That's shocking... you are providing an article about previous encounters and historic stuff, nothing that you could stir up on here!! So if you do any work for the club, you better not dare have a bad word to say about it... and if it's the thread I think you are referring too, it's not as if you said anything bad... gee whizz.
I know you'd have been doing the work on a voluntary basis, so it's a tad harsh.
Sorry I asked now bud... sorry to hear that, I enjoyed your article, even though you are a sad statto geek!
I read about this on P&B a few days ago. It seems completely ludicrous that the club have stopped your contributions to the programme after that thread. I don't think you did much that was wrong and even if the club were upset about it I'm sure a simple slap on the wrists would have sufficed. It's disappointing that they felt they needed to take that step. From what I understand it can be difficult to find regular programme contributors and it must be even more difficult to find contributors who produce such high quality articles.
I'd be interested to know the club's position on Richard's Temple of Saints website. He contributes regularly to the programme and has also been known in the past to criticise the club in editorial columns. Is this not a problem?
A person's activity on the internet shouldn't affect their suitability to contribute to the programme. I personally can't see any reason why these two things should be linked. It seems like another 'interesting' decision made by the club which can only push fans further away. Sad.

That's why there's a wee "It's his own opinion and nothing to do with the club" bit at the bottom of my column :***:
Without wanting to drag up what's happened, there's a fine line between criticism and gossip/rumours. The club are very sensitive about what's said on the site especially when there's not necessarily substance to back it up - remember the official forum had a story about a player allegedly seen abusing his girlfriend. These things do have an impact at the club and behind the scenes (e.g. players questioned about stories on the forum). That's why I tend to veer away from the "scandal" shocker type stuff on the Temple these days.
As for programme columns like mine - as Dave or Alastair Blair will tell you there's a lot of stuff that gets deleted before it gets to the printers

A tad confused here (I know it's my age before you all start) but which particular topic seems to have upset the club this time?

The McManus and Mooner thread.

Seems to me that there's a big difference between an alleged story about a player abusing his girlfriend and a (true) suggestion that a player might be leaving the club. That's chalk and cheese! The situation stinks.

Agreed... there is speculation all the time on here, it's what makes the site busy and vibrant... bit of a farce really! Especailly as half of it turned out to be true!!
Anyway, what's the story with a programme fair?

Speaking as someone who has a bit of personal experience with this, I sort of agree with the club that there's a bit of a conflict of interest in contributing to the official programme and being vocal on unofficial fanzines/forums/etc.
However, I do think the club might be digging a bit of a hole for themselves with this issue, because in the future they may find it increasingly difficult to find people who (a) have the skills they are looking for to contribute to the programme and (b) don't have any involvement in things like the forum. It's just the way things are nowadays, that the people who are interested in writing about Saints are more than likely to use websites like this one - finding people who don't could conceivably become increasingly tricky.

So they are gonna start to require writers who are less connected with the club and therefore not so passionate and therefore less enjoyable to read...
What if Dave Low slags a performance in the PA, will he be punted too?
Free speach ma hoop!
