Can we do it??? I,m sure we can if we play up to our potential.Certainly nothing to fear from St.Mirren.Whats the team going to be?? After my guess for Saturday ( in which there was no place for Rocco..Oops!!!)I might just leave it to others to predict the starting line up for the game.I can,t unfortunately make it to the game and won,t even be able to follow on line as I am out playing in the quiz league (Cup 1st Rnd). Hopefully there will be updates during the Sellic game which will be on in the pub we're in..I think this will be very very tight and may even go to extra time and Pens.Hope not ,but if thats what it takes for us to go through then so be it..1-1 after 90 mins Saintees to win 3-1 after extra time....

Come on the real Saints and GIRU the Fakes

Jim, can relate with your Rocco Quinn decision making as I was in the same boat as you after watching him a few times this season, most recently against QOTS at home where he had a few nice touches but didn't look interested enough over the course of the game.

Didn't make it on Saturday and heard mixed reviews, took both his goals well.

I'm going tomorrow and am optimistic.

If Stanic is back on Saturday I'd put him in for Sheerin and go for something similar.

Rocco or no Rocco?
In St Mirren we have nothing to fear but it'll be a sticky hard fought game I'd imagine, a battle in the middle of the park which I'm not sure he's up for. On the other hand he could have a bit of creative genius that wins us the game. His confidence should be high after Saturday so I'd start him and hook him at half time if he's not up for it.

I would go 4-4-2 with:

Main
Stanic
Irvine
Ando
James
Morris
Wilson/Sheerin (can't decide)
Quinn
Craig
Peaso
Jacko

Subs (5 subs right?):
Tucuth
McManus
Moon
Sheerin/Wilson
Milne

I think Milne will start though after being rested on Saturday and McInnes will go 4-3-3 again with Wilson dropping out.

Rocco Morris Craig

Subs - Bert James Sheerin Moon Weatherston

i'll be there but i have a bad feeling we are going to get run ragged by st.mirren.

we wont get many chances to score i feel so we must be clinical to have any chance of winning.

should have added that i wasn't sure wether Del will go 442 or 433 and we could all guess a different squad so that fud McPherson will have no clue what he'll be up against which is a good thing . He always seems to come up with a wee surprise that seems to work-i too left Rocco out of the team sat so Del knows better than all of us thank @*xx

I agree with you on your point about being clinical with any chances we get tomorrow Muzz, but i dont agree with your feeling that "we are going to get run ragged by St Mirren" - i never noticed anything from them in the first game that would suggest they have the ability to do this to us, Corcoran and Dorman were the only two the stood out and im sure Irvine and Jody will be able to deal with them. Would like McInnes to adopt Coyle's approach to cup games and really have a go at St Mirren tomorrow night, with the exception of Haining there defence looks slightly dodgy and slow, im sure Jacko, Savo and Peaso have the ability to cause them problems. Would love another day out at the semis, cmon the Saints!

Talking of St Mirren missing Haining and John Paul Potter, with their fans suggest MacPherson might switch to a back three of van Zanten, Millen and Maxwell. I really believe our front three could get a lot of joy out of that backline, with Peaso a target with diagonal balls to beat van Zanten aerially and Milne and Jackson have the other two for pace.

That would mean them having five in midfield though, which could present problems. I'd have been happy to see us go with the same midfield that played the first leg but with Ando suspended, Irvine needs to drop back into right back. Lynch would've been a good replacement but it seems unlikely he'll be fit, again meaning it's down to a choice between Rocco and Mooner. Mooner is the one that fits the battling qualities required but he's frozen in a couple of these big games and we can't really afford that tomorrow night. With Rocco's double on Saturday, I'd go with him and hope he can really match his ability with effort.

Don't think the captain is fit enough to start but have no real worries about going with Ruti and McManus, who has found his best form again.

Main

Irvine - Ruti - McManus - Stanic

Quinn - Morris - Craig

Jackson - Milne - Peaso

Subbies: Tucuth, James, Sheerin, Moon, Wilson/Weatherston.

Hopefully a good atmosphere as well...

Potter is definitely out , Haining trained today and will be back after missing Saturday ! I would imagine that Maxi will partner Haining in a 4-4-2 allowing Van Zanten (who will be a team mate of Jason Scotland next season)to move into right mid where we sorely missed him in the first game ! Looking forward to this match , and although I expect to win , it could easily blow up in our faces !

I think we should play at the same tempo and take the game to them 4-3-3. They're supposed to get a result in front of their home support and the fact they are an SPL club. That can help us, it did last year.

I wasn't shocked at all, we outplayed them at McDiarmid and did so again tonight.

Could have been 4-0 had their keeper not made a great save.

They were very, very poor over both legs, no quality in the team at all.

It's laughable to play against a team in which Ian Maxwell is the best player!

Great game, great atmosphere, great result and 3 fantastic goals. Completely owned them in the 1st half and St Mirren looked completely shellshocked at half time. Lovely strike from Peaso for his 50th for Saints, but Rocco's really was a bit special. Inch perfect cross from Liam right on to Quinn's boot and he smashed it high into the net on the volley - Can't wait to see that one again. After that first half performance, the 3-0 scoreline was totally deserved. St Mirren really were pish and couldn't cope with our movement and pace up front. They threw more at us 2nd half as you'd expect, but it was mostly long balls which we dealt with reasonably comfortably although there were a couple of nervy moments. Apart from the penalty miss, Savo and Peaso both had decent chances 2nd half to bury them.

Every Saintee was a hero tonight, but MoM for me was a toss up between Liam and Rocco, I really can't decide.

Don't care who we get in the semi. Well done Saintees - proof again that with the SPL we are indeed having a laugh.

garydavidson
18-03-2008, 11:30 PM
the only reason st midden threw anything at us in the second half was because of the subs we made going from three up front to one left the players hardly a target to clear the ball too. the fact we could have been one up in 30 seconds was a great start and it was good to make it to half time with a clean sheet.

I dont think i have ever seen three great goals in one saints game before they were all special peaso scored a blinder great work and a stunning finish.

just gutted i have to go to bed for work. those who were not there will need to check out the goals if they are on the news or anything.

What a performance tonight! We went for them right from the off and deserved nothing less but to go in at half time 3 goals up. If Sheerin had got that penalty, I would have loved to see how many beloved Buddies stayed in the Northbank.:***:

By the time they scored there penalty we could have been at least 5 or 6 up, and unluckily Savo's shot was held on the line by Smith. We had a nervy spell in the last 20 minutes but I would say the real difference between the sides was the fact that we were ruthless up front, and St Mirren were, well toothless...

Over the 180 minutes I think the team that deserved it definately went through. Dougie McDonald had another good game tonight. Something queer about a referee having two decent games in a season!

Get it right up you Gus McPherson.

Absolutely brilliant tonight - bit nervy at the end as they threw everything at us but three cracking goals and a Sheerin penalty miss into the bargain :)

Oh aye and for the St Mirren fans - they'd made us a nice wee banner (Something about "When the Saints go to lift the Scottish Cup We'll be there). Waived it about pre-match but obviously failed to pass it on to us for our trip to Hampden :). Still a nice sporting gesture from them although I'm surprised they'd given up on the game before kick-off :) :) :)

All3 goals were special esp Rocco's. Did Peaso get that booking or was it van Zanten-if so he'll be a big miss.

Don't wanna put a dampner on a great victory but at 3nil they were coming at us so the pace of Jacko could have really killed them off thought it was bad decision to take him off and invited them onto us meaning nervy 2nd half. Every one of them was fantastic tonight and ran themself into the ground.

Fantastic goals especially Rocco's and I was sure I saw him fly into a few tackles.
Loved the players reaction at the end, shows how much it means to them.

What the hell were St Mirren doing throwing 50 ball boys on with 15 mins to go?
Thought that was really bad, made the victory even sweeter though.

Unlucky St Mirren, blah blah blah, oh I enjoyed your rendition of "shall we sing a song" for you on 12 mins, think that was the last we heard from you's all night.

Apart from an embarrased and tired sounding, "in your Perth slums".....which must be the most ironic chant ever heard anywhere. I didn't realise Scotland was still a 3rd world country in some parts.

Last night was fantastic with 3 brilliant goal sorting out the SPL duffers.Nota failure in the team and could esaily have been more. When you see teams like St Midden consider themselves an estblished SPL side are in fact crap it is really galling to see where we are. One thing's for sure I rather watch Saints play entertaining football in any division than the boring and hegative dross St Midden play. 19 goals in 30 league games says it all really.

Great to think that the last ever song sung at St Midden Park in aSCottish cup tie was Alan Main, Alan Main, Alan Main. Pity there werent any ano fthe morons who had been dishing out the vile abuse to Main at McDiarmid still therer to hear it GIRUY. Banter is fine but the abuse Main took off ignorant St Midden fans was way beyond a joke.

I much rather preferred the ctack from the wee lad sitting at the game last night. What is teh difference bewteen Ian Maxwell and a horse's backside?

Thanks dee4life much appreciated. I for one do not hate Dundee. Too many happy memories over the last twenty years.

Or as they say on the back of the Broons' book.

GOAL !!!!
GOAL !!!!
GOAL !!!!
1 2 3
Game over!

A dawdle.
All good goals.
In the last year and a bit Saints have beaten Dundee Utd. (McD), beaten Rangers (Ibrox), drawn with Hibs over 90 mins (Tynecastle), beaten Falkirk (Falkirk), beaten Motherwell (Fir Park), lost by a goal to our Champions League representitives Celtic (Hampden) and beaten St.Mirren (Paisley).

Apart from the non viable clubs (Gretna etc.) crisis, the inability to play games on certain grounds because of over-use, the schedule pile-up, and the split, we have highlighted of course the stagnation of a top league that is not far off a closed shop with one relegation place. I don't think St.Mirren were any better than many 1st division sides.

Great to have an away-day at Hampden again. :D

HAVE A GO SAINTS !!!

The goals looked even better on t.v

Craigs pass an Rocco's side foot was world class!

Peaso's dummy was sexy an Jacko's finish clinical as ever

Peaso's dance around 3 defenders an inch perfect bend into the corner was beautiful!

I'm female and I'm minted , most people on here know that. Obviously you only visit to gloat , which in truth won't be very often ! :-)

I've thousands of posts and never realised that about you... possibly because I don't give a fook... and I only give you a fleeting thought when we are rogering your super-dooper 6th best team in Scotland... by the way, what size of ground are St Mirren moving to?

Another one wound up by Captain Sensible I see ! :-)

New ground has 1,700 less seats than the current one , so completely adequate as we don't even top 8,000 v the Old Scum !

............... shite!, but SPL shite , and the SPL is the place to be , anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves on !

Where would you rather be going on Saturday? , for a day out in Aberdeen , like we will be doing , or for an afternoon watching your team play in the Maryhill mudbath ?

To be honest with you it would be good for the club being in the sp hell but i much rather days out to dumfries etc and actually winning the majority of our games, i'd much rather be doing that than watching the shite you go to watch every week.

As much as i want promotion i love the 1st division the standard is probably better than some the top league and the days out are great!

I agree about the days out , I really miss the likes of Dumfries , Stranraer and Brechin from 2 seasons ago. In fact I hardly missed an away game that season but I hate going to Scumbrox and Parkhead , and despite not losing at Tynie since we returned to the SPL , I hate going there too !

Financially though , as far as the club's concerned , it's no contest , SPL every time !

Surely all the goals you score, muct make it worthwhile too:roll: I'd pay any money to watch Craig Dargo week in week out, makes me think that at 32, I may still have a future in the game, as long as I can con some tactically inept knob-head, such as say... Gus!

Actually , I don't have much time for Gus as entertainment is secondary to him. Having said that , he got us into and kept us in the SPL , more than can be said for the recent string of failures in charge at Perth?

Sorry , but for clubs of the stature of St Mirren and St Johnstone , the SPL is the ONLY place to be , cup runs act only as a sweetner unless you manage to win it . As for your last comment , who was the last club before us to bring 3,000 away fans to your stadium ? :-)

Is there any reason Gus speaks like a constipated Tommy Sheridan?
