A tremendous professional who gave his all for the shirt, not just with ourselves but with Partick as well. Sad news to read this morning and thoughts are with the McVicar family.

Perhaps this is an opportunity for the club to redeem themselves following their handling of the Drew Rutherford situation.

RIP Don, always remembered.

Oh God  My thoughts go to his family and friends

Very sad news indeed. One of the best players ever to pull on a Saints strip.

When I think of Don I think, Passion, pride, determination, hard tackling, thumping shot and he could play a bit too. Always had time for the fans, a real club man and a great guy, he really played a big part in bringing the team and the fans closer.

Better players may come an go through this club but few will be remembered with such fondness, or will be mourned with such a feeling of loss

For all you have done through the good times and bad, and for the wonderful memories you have given us all I can say is THANK YOU!!!

Not forgetting his long throw ins! All they needed was a flick on by Roddy and someone else would have the ball in the back of the net.

Brilliant.

As an aside, if there is nothing being doen officially by the club then I will go for the minutes applause at half-time in the St Mirren game. As long as everyone is happy with this :?:

This perhaps is the right time to make that suggestion to the club that we do this pre-match a week on Saturday, rather than at half-time.

I was having a fairly good day until I logged onto the Forum to get this news. A very very sad indeed today. Don was an inspirational man - on and off the park. A leader of men and someone we, as supporters, could genuinely look up to and respect. Don would always be one of the first names in my all time favourite Saints team. Rest in Peace Don - I feel very privileged and proud to have seen you play on many many occasions for my Club. Sincere sympathies to Don's family.

Such a great guy, will never forget his smiling face.

He was so passionate about his football, his throw-ins simply immense, for me one of the all time best in a saintees strip.

the last few years havent been good for him, his suffering has came to an end.

Very sad news and my thoughts are with his wife and kids at this terrible time. Along with another two Killie fans we met Don on holiday in Ibiza probably around 1985. After having a mad footie argument on our first night we became friends and had a great holiday. I kept in touch with Don and we always met up at Muirton for a beer and a bit of footie banter. Sadly we hadnt been in contact in recent years but I'll always remember him as a lovely guy and a top bloke.

Haven't posted on here before but just wanted to add my condolences, Don was a great servant to Saints and a great captain. Captaining the team that got promotion at the end of the 80's was a great achievement and it was a fantastic time to be a Saints supporter, up there with the best times Saints have ever had. I was too young to remember Drew Rutherford but remember Don well, I really hope the club comes up with a lasting tribute to a great man.

I'm new to this forum but wanted to send my condolences to Don's family. He was one of the first players that I had the privilege of seeing in a Saints shirt and will be sadly missed.

I think the idea of a game against the Jags is a great idea. There are plenty of fans who would love the opportunity to show what Don meant to both teams. I'd be there for sure. The money raised from the game could be sent to the Motor Neurone Disease charity.

They could set it up as a game where say 3 under 21 players have to be in the starting line ups, or as you say a pre season tourney to honour the man and to raise awareness and some cash for the charity.

If the club's are not up for it, maybe the PSJ boys could play a jags supporters team or something similar (if they do have one at all and if its possible to organise) to honour the man
