Well there we go we now have our opponents. Some fans were hoping for a gers win and you have it - although I wasn't too bothered initially now that I take stock of us having to play Rangers I really really wish it had been Partick. But that is that. With QOS beating aberdeen sensationally I don't think we shuld be phased of this game.
Can't wait. Got my tickets. What's the clothing for the semi?

Are we the home team in regards of strip or will we be in yellow????
Let the build up begin.
I,m so looking forward to this game now and I,m not to bothered that it,s Rangers we face. Our best performances over the last two seasons have come against "quality" teams,so that is in our favour and we will be the underdogs as well.If we play to our best ability we have every chance of getting a result.Team wise,we need our best starting 11,but fitness also comes into it.The players who have come back are not fully match fit and this will give Del selection headaches.I think Rangers will play a team that on paper should be good enough but I don,t think it will be anywhere near thier best team..They made 7 changes for the Thistle game and I would expect something similar against us.We must try to use this to OUR advantage. We will have to get about them for the whole game, never giving them any room or time.We also have to play the ball on the deck as much as we can as they have plenty hight and if we continualy pump high balls into the box they will lap them up...As for the size of the Saints support,I care not one iota.We will take what we take and there's nothing thats going to change that. What we can do though , is sing from start to finish and get right behind the boys.If all this happens, and we get a slice of luck,we might just bury the semi hoodoo and if we don,t, as long as the team gives it their best effort and have NO regrets I,ll accept that......
I would like to put forward the following rallying call for the semi........
ST.JOHNSTONES BLUE/YELLOW ARMY.ONE BIG TEAM,NO REGRETS.........
Now the tricky bit...A team....:?
MAIN
IRVINE,JAMES,RUSTY,STANIC
MORRIS,QUINN,CRAIG,SHEERIN
JACKSON,McBREEN
4-4-2
Subs.,ANDERSON,WEATHERSTON,MOON,HARDIE,McDONALD.
Now I know this might be a bit radical, but not having a goalkeeper on the bench gives us better options. If we have to go with a keeper, then I would not include HARDIE, as of the three comeback guys,he looked by far the most unfit on Saturday....This leaves no place for SAVO????? and McMANUS..
What ever happens,if everyone is fit, three of them are going to miss out.......I think my front line might take some stick, but we need some muscle up front and as much as I think Savo's a good player, his form has dipped quite badly of late and on Saturday he never won a ball in the air all match. That was against Morton. The quality is going to rise now and thats why I think he has to be dropped.I,m sure most will disagree, but thats the way I see it......
COME ON YOU SAINTS
ST.JOHNSTONES YELLOW ARMY.ONE BIG TEAM,NO REGRETS

as much as it could backfire, its gotta be 4-3-3. thats the way we play so why should we change just to suit them. ****'em. the 3 up front have the ability to run rings round the flute playing scums defence. the build has started and now i'm 100% in the mood. wasn't earlier to be fair but now i am. main, james, morris and jackson are the 4 players who all that little bit extra that can turn the game in our favour. gonna be a shit crowd but who cares. its the semi final of our national cup and we should use what queens did as insperation. the huns wont like us getting stuck right in about them and they boys are gonna be tired. replay today, tims on wednesday, then us. only so many games they can be 100% up for and i think standards may slip from them for this. one eye on the league and uefa.

At best you will be cheated out of it by the SFA who will want a guaranteed sell-out for the final. Whoever won testerday was incidental , either club would have brought around 10-15,000 to the final , the *** hordes are now required to make sure that the Scottish showpiece isn't a laughing stock !

What's this crowd shite got to do with anything.A football match is between two teams who may or may not have a large following. Those that support the teams attend the game and cheer their sides on.Whether there's 10000 or 100,000 doesn't matter one bit to these supporters. So if Hampden is only half full it doesn't matter, whats important is that the teams who are there have got there on their own merits and will be trying to win the cup and the fans who are there will have a great day regardless...No paranoia. The best team on the day will win.I hope that team is Saintees.
And if the cup final was between Saints and QoS why would it be a laughing stock???.Is it because no SPL team was good enough this year???Don,t see your point on this one at all.You don't need the OF to make the Scottish cup final work..In England they call it "The Romance of the Cup", up here certain people talk about it being a laughing stock if it,s not between at least one of the OF and another so called "Top Team".What a load of shite ......

I agree with MUZZ on this one. Playing a 4-3-3 against Rangers will make it difficult for them. We need to put alot of pressure on there defence which is very strong and with the team facing wholesale changes again (7 players were changed for the Thistle game today and will be a similar number against us after them playing celtic) having our front 3 moving around constantly will make it difficult for them to pick us up.

When it comes to picking a team its not easy with players coming back from injury ect.I have no evidence on this but i heard a story from a mole that told me saints are on e wee bit of a cover up with morris s injury and that he had a fallout with saints. Therefore i dont think he will feature next week so i am leaving him out of my team on the srength of that.MAIN:IRVINE:STANIC:CRAIG:RUTKIEWICZ:JAMES:MOO N:HARDY:JACKSON:MILNE:SHEERIN:SUBS:WEATHERSTON:MCB REEN:MACDONALD:MCMANUS:ANDERSON?

**** the conspiracies. im behind the saints , i beleive we can do it (we've done it before) and ill be there in blue/yellow with thousands of other who will have the same attitude,
keep the faith
only thing i would say on that behalf is that, when im at games myself, i can most certainly see that refs etc .. are very biast towards the old firm. and its not jus the odd occasion, its normally every week. as for St Johnstone, you guys have nothing to fear playing Rangers. the fact that they will think they WILL win, before they even get there, plays into saints part, as saints are a very hard working team, who will give it there all. all i can say is good luck guys, and i hope you lot go ALL THE WAY!

I was at the final between United and St.mirren in the eighties . The media said the crowd would be crap cause the old firm were not present. You should know it was nearly a sell out. When it was still standing at hampden. They also said the same about Motherwell / united. We have the potential to take the same if not more than we took to Celtic park in the late eighties against the gers under Totten. Its still a big if , to reach the final.Let our chants be loud, let our screams be heard, hope our team do us proud .

I know a lot of referees are inclined to give major decisions to either side of the Old Firm. I just think it would be daft to have the pointless discussions about "that dodgy penalty/sending off/goal awarded" etc. We just have to go out and get on with it and hope the referee has no impact on the overall result.

I think if Saints reached the final we'd take upwards of 12,000, but probably not more than 15,000. Everyone would come out for it and would take along just about everyone they possible could. Queens would probably take a similar number. Say 25-30,000 total supporting both sides. The SFA will obviously hand out thousands to business as they always do - and there will be plenty of scope to do that with tons of seats available. I think a Saints v Queens final would also bring out a lot of neutrals. If there were less han 45,000 I'd be shocked.

I'm not sure I share your optimism. Saints only just managed to get over 10,000 to the League Cup Final in 98, and that's when we were flying high in the SPL. Interest in Saints is a lot lower now - I think if we managed to reach 12,000 we'd be doing pretty well. Call me cynical, but I also think that the Saints travelling support would be dented by the fact that the game wouldn't be against one of the OF (let's face it, there are always some Perth-based OF fans who will buy tickets for the Saints end). I think we'd probably only take around the 10,000 mark. It also concerns me that QoS would potentially even outnumber us.
Still, let's concentrate on getting there first!:)

Of course BH!
I think we had 12,000 last time. That was on a dark, cold, November afternoon. This (if we get there) will (hopefully) be on a glorious sunny May afternoon - maybe get more people out?
Who knows. I don't really care how many people are there supporting Saints at the final - if we get there that's enough for me!

i think we'd be lucky to take 10,000 and Queens would probably sell upwards of 15k. Makes 25 thousand and add neutrals and busineess folk.... Over 30k?

Nope.
3.8 Serving of Suspensions
Suspensions incurred by players shall be served in the competition in which they are incurred and shall be measured by the relevant team of the club (i.e. the team in which the player normally plays) playing the requisite number of matches.
The following qualification applies:-
– A player who is sent off for serious foul play or violent conduct is suspended automatically until such time as his club’s team(s) has completed a match in a competition for which he would otherwise be eligible for selection.
– A player who is sent off for spitting at an opponent or any other person is suspended automatically until such time as his club’s team(s) has completed its next two matches in competitions for which he would otherwise be eligible for selection.

The red card is in the wrong competition unfortunately.Im pleased as we dont want any 'we were beaten cos we had an understrength team'excuses!
Personally. I dont give a toss how we beat Rangers.
Were we to go on and win the cup people will look back and see us as winners. Nobody will care if Rangers were understrengh/tired ect.

Who is their third centre back? They seem to have Weir and Cuellar playing every week! I bet Savo is praying they stick Hemdani in there again!

Cuellar misses the next league game but is available for the cup. Weir misses the cup game but can play in the next league game. As far as I'm aware.
They have Papac, Broadfoot, Dailly and Hemdani who can play at centre back.

Let's hope they rest Cuellar and reunite that famous centre back pairing from November 2006; Hemdani and Papac! They had some diddy called Hutton at right back too IIRC!

I guess Barry and Thomson will play in midfield, since they miss the Fiorentina game? Maybe Hemdani sitting, or Davis in there too? Burke on the right, Naismith left and Boyd up top?
I still remember Roddy bundling Neil Alexander, ball and all, into the back of the net against Livi during our Scottish Cup run in 1999.

Does anyone know how much one of these sections hold, capacity wise at Hampden? I know they'll all differ slightly but it said on official site we've sold initial allocation which is sections I6, I5, I4, I3, I2, I1, G8, G7 & G6. They have released the £18 tickets which states are for section G5. If we fill that are they also willing to give us more tickets e.g G4.
I ask because there's no mention of any others and taking into account segregation depending on where the huns have sold there tickets for.

I would imagine that if we sell out g5 which must hold about 1500 (pure guess) then we would get more for g4, as the areas mentioned (g5,g4) are in the south east of the stadium, i would imagine the rest of the east stand would then remain empty, as the rangers fans would be in there "traditional end" west stand, and the north stand, assuming they sell more than 20,000 which i doubt it they will, but nevertheless we WILL out sing them so come on boys crank up the volume.........:)

Well thats me finished work for the weekend now and it,s full steam ahead for Sundays game. After a few weeks of pretty boring football, with nothing but pride to play for,it will be good to be playing for something again. It,s looking like we will take a better support than was first thought, although it still looks a wee bit short of last time.( Great move by the Club to make tickets available on Sunday morning.I hope the weathers nice and maybe we'll get a few more who decide at the last minute to go to the game).Anyone know how many tickets the dirty, filthy, bigoted team have sold????
Also good is the game is on Sunday ,so we can follow the games on Saturday and hopefully Hamilton will end Dundees chances with a win at NDP against Clyde..Dundee staying down and a win for us over The Govan Gadgies would make it the best weekend ever..

Squad to face Rangers:

I thought McBreen could have been useful coming off the bench but obviously the game came too soon for the big man and McCaffrey was never going to make it.
Cameron better not make it, from the signs coming oout the camp Rocco probably won't make it and then it's got to be one of the centre backs and for me McManus is the unlucky man.

Game is scrappy as hell
Gers have their 2nd team out, but are still passing round us at ease. The *** are looking dangerous down their left flank, two on one on irvine. Main pulled of a decent save, and stanic saves of the line.

dunno where our goals are gonna come from. Gone with a bold 4 3 3 , but midfield swamped and defence exposed. Milne is sitting behind a front two, but no service getting to them. Dailly is looking static, so may pay of in the second half, but I would pull milne or peaso, stick james in the middle to frre up stanic and irvine to support midfield.

Exactly, last week we lacked the necessary physicallity, but created a number of clear cut chances. It seems to be the reverse today.

0-0 at halftime is a mini result within itself. Gives our fans something to cheer about and the huns will be on their players backs already

We are playing the waiting game a'la walter. 2nd half we will expose dailly (composed but aged) jackson will romp thru and win the game for us! Honest:D

Is this a replay or extra time and pens if a draw? I'm off tae have a wee dram to settle the nerves. Sounds like Del will need to change the plan perhaps and bring on "the big man" and he can score the winner from a corner or maybe it will be Savo with another overhead.

Hardie doesn't seem to want to play on the right leaving Irvine exposed. Hardie doesn't look fit. Playing a front three was suicidal as is playing McManus. Hope Del's a lucky manager because his team selection is poor, again.

Stanic is fine for position, but when he has to come for a ball he is looking his age or lacking confidence.

So close to cup final vs QOS. So close to Europe.
Atleast Graig looked quite good and Andy Jackson looks class but Milnes and Morris' penalties were ordinary.
