It seems ages since we had a game, but of course it's only 9 days.A glorious 9 days without a defeat to worry about and enough time to regain the belief that we can get our season up and running this time.So what will Del have done so far and what will he do in the next few days that will make the difference?I must admit I have no idea who will be in the starting 11 or on the bench for the county game, but I do feel we can get a win if the basic errors can be eliminated at the back.
I must also admit that I will not be attending the game on Saturday due to the fact that I,m going to the Leuchars Air Show. This is not because I fear the worst or even that I can't be arsed, it's just that I,ve never been to the Air Show and have always wanted to go.

So who,s all going and whats your line-up guess....

Don't listen to Lark - I've seen a couple of the east fortune air shows and they're excellent.

I'll take any sort of performance / lineup on sat as long as we come away with at least a point.:)

Perhaps I was a little harsh. The term "homo" in my previous post should be substituted with "saddo", "geek" or the previously mentioned and personal favouite of mine, "anorak".

I'm going to Dingwall but its far too early to speculate on the lineup. This should stir everyone however: Hardie shouldn't play because he has been gash this season.

Anyway, back on the topic. The talk of the air show has evoked fond memories of one of my favourite films, Airplane.

Does anyone else list this amongst their favourites?

Ahhh, at last, a home game for me! Missed them last season! Saints to win easily in Dingwall...defensive mistakes gone and a solid clean sheet. 2 goals for us, Holmes and Savo on the scoresheet.

Sorry Ghostie, but working on aircraft all week means that I would rather be in Dingwall watching the prima-donnas that are the mighty Saints than watching a load of prima-donnas and anoraks at Leuchars watching loud things go past at a rate of knots! Doesnt make you a p**f though!

hopefully we can get a result for this one. County have fallen off the pace a bit also so it should be a even game. but they will know our confidence is shot, if they get the first goal I hope we can pick ourselves up from that.

Are we on a wing and a prayer or will we bomb the sister kissers into submission?

I cant remember that far back! I had a good Leuchars air show when i was on the other side as one of the engineers on the final phantom display team in 92... other than that, air shows just equal work really... anyway, back to the football.
Saints need to get back to winning ways and i think a good convincing win over the staggies may be all they need to build a great deal of confidence after one result, as it is a hard place to get points.

Fingers crossed....

Disappointing that Morris won't be available this weekend as it's getting to the stage where we are really pinning our hopes on him. Personally, I think his introduction could see Hardie get a new lease of life as he'd have license to get forward more. As it is, I'd keep faith with Hardie, although I know a lot have lost it and pair him in the centre of the park with McKoy. The other option is Millar in the midfield with Swankie on the right but I still feel we're gonna need to fight our way out of this situation rather that play our way out. In saying that, I still think Sheerin needs to be involved on the left of midfield after his showing against Clyde.

I'd actually play Liam Craig at left back but I know that won't happen. I'm sure Rutkiewicz will be restored to the side but no idea who will partner him.

Who knows what the craic up top will be. Will Peaso return from the cold? Holmes best games seem to be as a sub but then it's off the back of those he earns a start, which is when he's sometimes disappointed. The manager really seems to rate Samuel and he's looked better in the past couple of games. Jacko is sure to come good eventually whilst Savo is probably our on form attacker at the moment. Hard call for McInnes to make.

I think we'll take another heavy beating unfortunately, as I don't think the corner is in sight yet, although I'm still content in the belief we will reach it.

Zimmerman
11-09-2008, 12:46 PM
I would go with craig, sheerin & millar in the centre, with swankie and samuel on the wings just behind savo. I personally think, with injury playing a huge part, that this is a season too far for hardie. His game is breaking down play, starting moves and arriving in the box late to cause problems. I know this won't go down well, but he aint got the legs anymore. I also feel that peaso has been struggling for a while, he relied on pace to beat a man which he lost. I would have jacko and homles to change things up front and mckoy on the bench. We need rusty at the back with hopefully an improved anderson, caff has not impressed me at all.

Realistically, beat 2-1 like beginning of season. 4 bookings and 1 off. Here's hoping I'm wrong and we actually play like a team but we have no defense. Parting of the "blue sea" might happen again if caff plays with that numpty at left back (he's so crap I cannae mind his name!)

Bottom of league by 5pm Saturday night to ruin another weekend.

I hope the international break and a few bounce matches have found some quick fixes to whatever the manger believes the problems are. Fans and McInnes say the problems are obvious, but to me Im not sure what the solutions are???? everyone is talking of one thing and another, but all teams have problems, im just hoping we have a management team who are capable of finding solutions. Roll on 3pm Saturday.... I can see us winning, but I predicted a big win against a poor Clyde side, and this Ross County side may be in relegation battle along with Clyde come May so I will tip a scrappy 1-0 win :)

I've got a nagging feeling we'll either end up being humped again or else it will be a cracking win.

Cost, a summer cold and the desire to avoid a depressing 3 hour journey home after a defeat means it'll be tomorrow morning before I even decide if its worth the effort.

Guessing with Sammy coming off when sitting on a hat trick that he must've done a fair bit of running today. If it was a 4-5-1 formation then he deserves a heap of praise for getting a couple of goals in a very difficult position to play in.

Ok then mate, whatever

Just trying to point out that your comment made no sense at all. Football is a team game, I thought that was sort of obvious. You dont leave a player on the pitch just because he is on a hattrick and if you were a player wanting to stay on the pitch just to get one, when it would not be in the interest of your team, you wouldnt be a very good player and you wouldnt be too popular with your team mates or the fans.

It was sort of obvious Samuel was on his own up front so he must have dont a fair bit of running, has not played that many minutes recently, so why wouldnt Del take him off and get Savo up there who is fresh and can run the County defenders around.

a good win but not the greatest performance. Samuels second goal was a peach ran onto the ball skinned a few defenders ran into the box and slotted it in the bottom corner. the first was a good free kick whipped in and samuels just nodded it in.

after our second we looked really really good after a not to convincing first half. swankie made a great run down the wing cut inside and could have slotted it to samuel but he went for goal and tony made the save.

after that we took our foot off the gas and like the first half let county come at us in the end they got a goal it was a thumper, a cross never got fully cleared and the guy smacked in into the net.

hardie asked mcinnes to take him off and samuels looked tired and savo came on and played a more midfield role and never looked sharp at all.

last kick of the ball was a free kick on the edge of the box our 9 man wall blocked it and we got three points.

not the greatest but at the end of the day its three points and two goals but it was done in proper saints style - tension till the end.

special mention must got to another dire display by an official im getting beyond sick of them.

just going to enjoy the win though :)

A good win. Maybe this will turn things around for the Boys.

Happy to see that Samuel got a couple of goals. I wasn't completely sold on this player, having seen him struggle in Toronto. However, fair do's to him. If he does that in each game for the rest of the season, he will have my unreserved support! I'm not hard to please.

P.S. I think I picked 2-1 Saints in the Preddy. WooHoo! That means I will get more than the minimum points. Canada on the move. Rampant.

Rustybits was immense IMO, Caff did well as well. Ando does not look like a footballer at the best of times but his contribution was also huge - willing to be contradicted here, but I think he played left back although Craig appeared from time to time in that position as well:confused:

Overall, we defended well - a million times better than last few games. Samuel deserves a special mention though - he was subbed at the right time IMO cos he did run out of steam playing as the only striker. Up until then though his pace and touch were impressive.

As Heather with the weather would say, its an improving picture!

What a relief! County can probably claim a point would've been fair but I feel we were due a break and the players certainly earned it today. McInnes clearly rates Samuel very highly and today we were given a glimpse why. He already tested Bullock before he should've scored when the Englishman again came to County's rescue. That was after County had already glanced the post with an early header but Samuel wasn't to be denied and like Mackie says, a clever run and a good delivery from Swankie saw him bullet home a header.

His second goal was superb. He picked up the ball wide on the left and after using his pace to go round the outside of Boyd, cut back infront of the defender then knocked the ball past another County player before smashing under Bullock. Saints then worked themselves a couple of good situations but lacked the killer ball to create an opportunity for the third. Sensing this, McInnes replaced the goal hero with Steven Milne but it was Derek Adams double change (Strachan and Scott) that turned the tide firmly in County's favour. They scored a great goal of their own and rattled the bar but despite largely dominating territory didn't overly exert an unusually wobbly Alan Main.

Saints didn't look like adding to our tally, especially after McInnes through Holmes on in the lone striker role in the 4-5-1 system we used all afternoon. Much better performance from us though that hopefully breeds some confidence. Didn't think County reached the heights of the Challenge Cup game and the result might've been different if they had.

To be honest, I'll be pretty annoyed if I turn up at Firhill next week and we are playing a 4-5-1 formation. It'd be a total over-reaction to one woeful performance and result. We need to try and gain some consistency IMO, not try twenty formations until one works.

Fair play Ghostie but that was a good few weeks ago now, albeit I wouldn't have suggested 4-5-1 ahead of today's match either. The formation worked ok (although County did hit the woodwork twice and were denied by Main in a one-on-one situation) and might be an option next week as well but I will still be disappointed if we use it at McDiarmid, although with guys like Swankie and Millar in the side, you're never short of players who will get forward.

For those interested, we lined up:

Main

Irvine - Rutkiewicz - McCaffrey - Anderson

Swankie - Millar - Hardie - Sheerin - Craig

Samuel

Savo came on initially for Samuel before switching to right midfield when Holmes replaced Swankie. McKoy replaced Hardie.

A great win yesterday and some decent football played at long last!! The defence played really well overall and I think a special mention must go to Millar and Sammy who IMO were both immense!!

Thought the ref had a shocker - every time we challenged one of their players he gave a free kick but he was more than happy to wave play on when it was the other way round!!

Speaking to some of my mates who are County fans, they felt that we got out of jail a bit, but they did say they wished they had a finisher like Sammy!!

You could see how much the win meant to the players so here's hoping we can get positive results in the next couple of games!

First game of the season for me, and in the first hour i was wondering how we managed to get humped from Partick and Dunfermline - we looked solid and were knocking the ball around comfortably, Sammy done great to get his 2 goals, he is very much in the mould of his fellow countryman Mr Scotland, in that he will not chase the ball around and will sometimes be percieved as being lazy, however if he keeps scoring for us, then there can be no arguments. In defence i thought Ruti was very solid throughout, and Ando put in a good shift at left back. McCafferty was a bit worrying at times though, he got dragged out of postion too many times for my liking. Couldnt really fault the midfield either, was very impressed with Millar and i thought MMM, Swankster and Sheerin were all good. Liam Craig for me was our poorest player yesterday, didnt look interested at times, especially after County scored he was being dragged all over the place.

All in all, was a decent display, and the result will hopefully give us more confidence for the upcoming games against QOS and Scumdee.

Yeah, the worry for me is Saturday if anything takes us even further away from nailing down a settled starting XI. Ando was very good, although he did play there a few times last season, including for extra-time in the semi against Rangers.

i feel the same - i feel if we can settle the team down get the same formation an players for a few games in a row the results will come.

the dropping of Morgan seemed a strange one but a lot of folk are saying he's a left mf and not a natural left back so maybe Ando gave more defensive cover to our team which has leaked far too many silly goals. the mf have to take a lot of the blame for this as well so sticking an extra guy in there made a lot of sense. I actaully think Del was hoping to just tighten things up and play well get a draw and if we got a win it was a bonus which is exactly what happened. Hopefully with the results going our way it will give the team the confidence which was much needed going into next weeks game. With a couple of big games coming up i'd like to see the same team but hey it's Del.

The only good thing with the constant changing of the team is that it's a nightmare for other managers they'll have no idea how we will line up.

Wasn't at the game on satuday but i'm glad to see Samuels starting too come good grabbing a brace. I've heard a fair amount of criticism against him and to be honest, I didn't really rate him when he was at Dundee Utd, but i've liked what i've seen of him in a Saints strip so far. Doesn't strike me as what you'd call a natural finisher but he's got a very physical side to his game and he can bully defenders, it'd be interesting to see what him and Peaso would be like when there both 100%

There is a trend in some quarters to play right footed players at left back and left footed at right back so maybe not as daft as it seems.
