All the match chatter here. i know its a bit early and we have the scotland match tomorrow but im so exited about the livi game i hardly care about the scotland game (despite going to it :))

its a bit early to say already, but it looks like we will perhaps have a fully fit squad with the exception of colin samuel.

will morris drop straight back into the team if he is fit?

i must admit, i would rather have him in if he is going to play like he did last season, than hardie who hasnt been quite up to standard this season.

but, obviously the fact he is just back from injury might play against him?

the strikers MUST be savo and holmes imo. both have been very good this season.

im unsure weither to keep jackson or peaso on the bench, in all honesty i would rather have peaso as jackson has not been himself this year (but a substitutions goal could be all he needs to get his confidence back up?)

anyway, cant wait. let the chatter begin

I would say that if and it's a big if Morris is fit he would most likely start on the bench.I would be happy if Del did this.

As for the rest. The team has been gelling well and I would be happy to start with the same 11 that started against Airdrie, except I would have Moon in the side in place of McKoy..It probably won't happen though and Hardie will most likely replace McKoy.

I'd go with.....

Main
Irvine, McCaffery,Rusty,Craig
Millar,Moon,Sheerin,Swankie
Savo,Holmes.

Subs. The goalie boy,McDonald, Morris, Hardie, Ando..

No spot for. Morgan, McKoy, Jacko, James.

Samuel and McLean injured.

is mooner fit enough for 90 minutes though? and whod replace him? not mckoy!

maybe peaso, goin on a 4-3-3 in the end.

Agree with Sainteesean.Much as I want Scotland to win tomorrow(and I am a nationalist) the game against Livi is a million times more mportant to me.
Come on the Saints.

What has become apparent is that livi dont have enough players. when a defender is out injured they fall apart. by the time we play them again griffiths will be back but hopefully the injury has taken the wind out of his sails, the little Pr*ck.

I have not been to a game in a wee while think since the livi cup game actually. the team seems to be doing well as they are. I think the 11 suggested there sounds good with moon in the team heard he was miles better than mckoy when he replaced him last week.

Agreed. Thought we bossed them at home on the first day of season and should have ebaten them in cup too. McPake and Inness kept them together. A win at Livi and we can't start the ritual dreaming.

you think mcKoy could learn from moon and see the style of play we are looking for?

mckoy looks like he has the potential, maybe he is the last to gel with the team.

For anyone travelling to the game there is a new part to the livingston shopping centre opening on the weekend of the game so parking at the centre will probably be chaotic as will the local pubs. I stay local to Livingston so just a heads up for you coming down

by the time we play them again griffiths will be back...
It currently looks as if he won't play as Scotland won't release him ahead of next week's U19 matches. I don't think that's been 100% confirmed yet but the absence of Griffiths and Elliot will be a big boost for us.

garydavidson
16-10-2008, 02:50 PM
reading the livi website they are putting a lot of effort into getting bums on seats and have handed out free tickets to parents and kids in local schools.

McPake is back for them but no word from our site about those who have been out for a while.

a big game and we really cant afford to lose the three points. we were unlucky in the cup against them so hopefully our improved form will carry us through.

St Mikey
16-10-2008, 03:23 PM
A win would be excellent since they have won most games this season.

Tougher test than our visits there last term. Keep it tight again for 20mins and build on it.

Think a goal either way could win it, certainly don't see us putting 6 by them like QoS.

Gaz9274
16-10-2008, 04:10 PM
No Griffiths or Elliot hopefully means no goals.
But with McPake back it will also mean no 6 goals against.

Looking forward to this one now.

I work in a school in Livingston. So I am expected to hand out tickets to increase their support and therefore their chances of wimming????????
Not a bloody chance.I'll file them away in the bin.

According to the Sun, that nice man Billy Stark has insisted Griffiths travels at the weekend rather than wait until after the Saints game. Always said Stark was an ok guy

Looking forward to this one. Think, even despite the possible returns of James and Morris, McInnes should stick with as similar a team as possible to the one which beat Airdrie 3-1. Elliot and Griffiths will be huge losses for Livi, though the return of McPake is a possible problem.

Main

Irvine Rutkiewicz McCaffrey Craig

Millar Moon/Hardie Sheerin Swankie

Milne Holmes

Nick McKoy may well be dropped from the starting XI after a couple of lacklustre displays.
I am fairly confident we can get a result against the joint league leaders, and anything less than that I wouldn't be pleased with. We must maintain our momentum and gain ground on the top pack.

i think this will be a very tough game, even with livi loosing there first choice strike partnership. I think with that consisdered the odds are stacked in our favour but i think after the gubbing livi got by Queens they will be too up for the game and the home advantage will mena they edge it i think 2-1 livi.

Main
Irvine Rusty McCaffery Craig
Millar Hardie Sheerin Swankie
Milne Holmes

Subs: Robinson, Morgan, Moon, McKoy, Jacko

I think the tema will be very similar to the airdrie game just that Hardie will make his way back in for McKoy, seems a shame but i think that Mooner will be used again as a sub to up the temp late on. Also i think Peaso will again be unlucky and not even get on the bench.

Team news according to Tay FM (http://www.tayfm.co.uk/Article.asp?id=15381&spid=25595):

St Johnstone could be without winger Gavin Swankie for tomorrow's trip to Livingston. He reported for training this morning with a bug and manager Derek McInnes might not take a chance on the former Dundee man's fitness. Definetly out are Euan McLean and Collin Samuel while McInnes is unlikely to risk Kevin James and Jody Morris who have recently returned to training after lenghty spells on the sidelines.

Play Jody for the first 45 minutes and see how he feels. As for James being on the way back, we will see.

Livilions sounds like its full of 12 years olds, you've gotta love their blind optimism. Especially the guy predicting at least 4-0!!! where are these goals coming from exactly??

I mean... How WILL we cope with hammil and McParland? lmfao!!

They'll hopefully see the real saints turn up on saturday!

Jamie_Beatson

Some of that stuff is laughable. This post:

"i think they have been the worst team we have played all season. how they beat us in perth is a mystery and in the cup match they were laughably bad. even without sparky and clum i'd expect us to have little problems and don't see how they will cope with hamill or mcparland. smith will have too much energy for their defenders (slowest in the league) too."

Is just plain hilarious.

garydavidson

the fact we were laughably bad yet they could not beat us in 90 mins does not say a lot for them. hope we can bring them down a peg.

If Swankie's unwell, still, Del should put Craig in midfield and Morgan at LB. Sherlock and Savo up front would tear apart the Livi defense.

Just off the phone to livi, asking if my 2 year old would be charged to get into the game today. After she stopped yawning after answering I'm told he will be charged £7 to get in. No wonder grounds are empty when to take along your son to the game is going to cost £23 without food.

SaintSam1884
18-10-2008, 10:27 AM
I hope McInnes doesn't risk Morris or James. Neither of them will be ready for a game so starting either of them could be a hindrance to the team and a real risk to their continued recovery. Add the fact that we haven't really struggled without either then it would be a needless risk.

Good all round team performance again today. Not a failure, though Morgan frustrates still with taking a bit too long to get the ball in,but that's being very picky!Great Savo finish, from a good first time touch from Homer.Could have been ahead earlier, but Rusty missed a header from under the bar!Bossed most of the game, but they played the ball about quite well in two short spells, and missed an open goal header early on in second half.Irvine and Millar were linking as well as Craig, Sheerin and Morgan on the left, but everyone was on top form, starting to look much more like a team unit.

Good crowd today, decent performance, we didnt play that great but we were by far the better team, apart from livy number 7 didnt think they looked a threat
Great performance by Holmes, he rapidly turning into one of my favourite players!!

Livy do not look like a top of the table team, and can see them falling down the table!!

what a run, well done del and the boys i'll admit I didnt think the management had it in them to turn things around we are doing great

Livingston is a stupid place. It's easier driving through Glasgow. Get to the ground and no parking. Stuffed with a very bad cold, disoriented and lost my bearings. Took me an hour and 20 - from Stirling!
Sat off Livi when we went ahead. Gave them lots of possession. Just as well they've nae backup strikers, although the 17 year old nearly punished us with a good header. One or two erratic moments from Ruti in an otherwise good display. Needs not to argue with the ref. Too much tight passing around our own area at times.
We mostly played long balls to Johnnie, who did his job well, as he always does.
Liam's long ball to Johnnie and then his awareness to find Savo was great, but then Savo's finish - brilliant!
I'd like to see us give someone a good hiding though, but from where we were we have to be happy right now.
Hardie in and out of the game and Mooner not as effective as usual although only on for a short while. Irvine and Craig did well at RB/LB.
Ref added so much time on at the end.
I'm rambling.

Aye what's with their car park? Was there at half 2 only to be told by a boaby that we had to go up the road & turn back as there was no spaces. Eventually manged to get parked beside the swimmies just out the back of the ground but a farse nonetheless. Satisfactory and well deserved result although still miffed about their keeper handling clearly a good half a yard outside his box and the linesman being easily close enough to see but choosing to ignore it.

Crackin result for the blues today,i thought Savo and Millar were the stand outs, and truth be told nobody had a bad day today in my opinion, downside of the game for me was that joke of a linesman,it seemed to start off with him being in the face of one of our players earlier on then he got worse from there,he was well off the pace running the line, and dont get me started on the Livi goalie incident !!!!

Edited to add,i heard alot of complaints about the amount of time added on at the end,the second half didnt kick off till 16.06

Temple reports up now - cracking result and a solid performance even if the game was pretty pish otherwise.

Re the car park for some reason Livi have the old away car park fenced off as a construction site (no doubt the press facilities for their forthcoming Champions League games). Plenty of cheap (ie free) parking in the industrial parks at the other side of the main road - got out quicker than most of the Mafiosi managed from their luxurious fiver-a-motor car park as well.

BTW why the hell didn't Livi open another couple of turnstiles for the away fans - thought I was going to miss kick-off at one point.

Great Win with a battling performance.

Very concerned at Hardie's performances this season. still looks well of the pace. First touch poor etc.

also think that Morgan would be better suited at Left Back as he has very little ability in an attacking sense. Feel we are wasting Craigs ability by playing him at left back.

Agreed and said it all along, Livvy are pish. Seen them 3 times this season already and have not been impressed.

Keep it going Del....

I find Livingston quite a difficult place to drive in as well. The series of junctions around Whitburn when you start making your way off of the dual carriageway completely puzzle me - even though I've driven them several times before. There's one particular one not far down from the hospital where you actually feel like you are driving on the wrong side of the road, but in actual fact it some sort of strange one way system so you're never going to meet another car head on. Every time I drive there, it feels like the most unnatural way of driving. I've never encountered roads as strange as those in Livingston. It gets much easier once you get to the traffic lights outside the hospital though. Having said that though, it's one of the away days I enjoy more.

Agree with the good performance. Couldn't be happier with today and the other results :D but have to disagree with the worst town in the country. IMO its one of the best! Maybe I'm a bit biased, but to be fair when you look at what the town, which only really got established 15 years ago, has it's far better than most. As many have said before me the new shopping complex has opened and has now the best shopping centre/centres in the country. Love the place! :)

martin hardie should be dropped he had a few good touches but the only player on the park that was anywhere near as bad as him was morgan. hardie was lucky not to get sent off for his attack on the livi player.

very happy with the three points from a very very poor game. we should have beaten them by a few but chances were squandered by hardie and homer and lucky their boy missed a sitter of a header.

at the end of the day those three points in a dire game like that are the type that get you the title. great to see savo score a nice one. very very doodgy officials once more.

we also need a new kit man - ando came on the pitch with peasos (14) shirt on but his own shorts (12). sheerin had morgans number as well according to the team sheet!

What was the attendance yesterday ?
I'm not sure but judging by Gary's comments above, there were two games in Livingston yesterday! I accept there weren't many clear cut chances but I thought it was an enjoyable enough game, although Livi suffered from having no decent strikers. We didn't reach the heights but for the first time in years are getting points on the road by working hard for them. Holmes is turning into a tremendous signing and Savo is on fire at the moment.

There was a massive gulf in quality between the two right midfielders. I liked Quinn last season for Saints but he was nowhere close to Millar today, the same as in the Co-Op Cup match.

Aitchy

Fantastic result yesterday, not a spectacular performance, but as long as we keep getting the points there can be no complaints. Livi proved they are an average team, i would be very suprised if they are anywhere near the top of the league come the end of the season, although i will join Radford in the James McPake "love-in" - looked verY good yesterday.

As for us the defence is looking more and more solid by the week, Liam Craig is looking solid at left back, he can pass, tackle and also offers us an attacking option. How did Morton manage to hold on to Chris Millar for so long? He is superb, the type of midfielder we have been needing for years. Everytime i've seen Holmes he has made an impression, he does nothing fancy, but his ability to win balls in the air, and hold up the ball, is one of the main reasons why Savo is in such prolific form at the minute, what a goal that was yesterday!

Thankfully i missed our shocking start to the season, so my first game of the season was away at Ross County, therefore i still have not seen us lose this season! Beginning to get quietly confident, its a great time to be following the mighty SJFC.

Main has cost us quite a few goals this season. Regardless of how much you like the guy, and how much of a Saints legend he is, and how well he plays to the fans, you cannot deny it because it happened. If you don't believe us, have a look at the match videos on the official site.

Not a particularly great performance, but tremendous result. I think yet again we're seeing how it takes just a handful of good results to move up this league, and those who over-reacted to our earlier bad results and claimed that the season was already over are now being shown to look very silly.

I thought Savo, Holmes, Millar, Craig and The Wizard all played pretty well. Hardie and Morgan were disappointing. Everyone else was fine. I'd like to see us play a bit more dynamically, but we lined up with quite a few players yesterday who aren't particularly mobile, so I guess that was never going to happen. They really need to work on their crossing too, as that was really appaling from everyone yesterday.

Apart from that, it's good to see the team clearly growing in confidence and looking like a team with good spirit who are in it together.

Decent performance, better result.

Good performances from most of the team apat from Morgan who had a shocker, he really doesn't look like a footballer at all and certainly not a winger, every time he got to the byline he cut the ball bacl onto his right foot which is about as much use as Leigh Jenkinson's was. He constantly hides from the ball and seemed to always make himself available to Craig inside rather than down the line where there was more chance of getting the ball to him.

Craig was good again at left back but I can't help but feel he is somewhat wasted there. Irvine was solid, I've only been to three games this year but I can't see why he was taking so much stick earlier in the season. Millar looks like a great signing but could do with putting a bit more pace on his passes, they always seem to be a wee bit too soft. Holmes was great again, if you punt a ball anywhere near him he's almost guaranteed to win it. Savo worked hard as usual and scored another cracking goal.

Hardie was a bit poor again but without him we would have looked very light in midfield, cracking foul for his booking though.

I really wish we'd keep a man up for corners and free kicks especially when Samuel isn't on the park, we're so slow getting out to cleared balls it causes us a lot of problems. At one point Livi left three players up which I think is a great idea.

As for Livi, I thought they were pretty poor and didn't really trouble Main at all although they should have scored at the start of the second half. Rocco was pretty poor and showed that he was no great loss to the Saints.

If you've been to Whitburn you've got pretty damn lost! It's around 8 miles away from Livingston!!

I can see why people get lost but the best tip is if you feel lost, go left at 3 roundabouts in a row and you'll end up back where you started haha

Quite clearly you don't know the town, I find your comments quite ironic, having lived near haymarket and in Livingston i know where i'd rather stay by a country mile!!!

Livingston is probably the most walker/cyclist friendly town in Scotland, the whole place is connected by a series of footpaths meaning you can get from one end of the town to the other without crossing a road.

There is plenty green areas/woodland to go walking, tons of football pitches and tons of family friendly places to keep kids amused which is pretty handy considering West Lothian has the youngest average population of any county in the UK.

There is a perfectly good pub within a short walk of ground, where me and several of the Edinburgh based supporters went pre-match. It's much better than The Granary or The Hungry Horse or whatever they call it these days. Maybe you should actually try looking around or asking locals for advice before spouting so much uneducated drivel.

The Real Saints

Not a fantastic performance by any means, but we played some nice stuff at times, and most importantly, went home with the 3 points.
Holmes and Milne worked very hard up front, the latter in particular going for every ball, and scoring a thoroughly deserved goal - fantastic finish, by the way! Liam Craig deserves credit for the fantastic floating ball to Holmes which began the move for our goal. He has been doing a sterling job at left back recently, although maybe his attacking nature is slightly concealed in that position.
Sheerin had a quiet game by his recent standards, and Hardie still doesn't look like the player he is capable of being. He did show glimpses, though. Millar was fantastic and energetic as always. Morgan didn't live up to the promise he showed during his brief outing against Airdrie. I still have hope that he'll come good, though. McCaffrey and Rutkiewicz are developing into a top-class defensive partnership, and I can't see the return of Kevin James breaking them up. Gary Irvine put in a characteristically good performance.
Livi seemed toothless without the striking influence of Elliot and Griffiths. It seems they have a lack in depth which will be required if they seriously wish to challenge.
Lots of positives to take from the match overall. Maybe we were a bit disjointed at times, but I'll take the result ahead of pretty football anyday.
Great to close the gap on the leaders. If we continue to get results consistently, then anything is possible. Let's not speak too soon though. It is important to continue our run of form against Partick, and make a start in pushing to the top of the pile. Well done, Saints.

You are kidding? I could have spent my entire life guessing that and never got anywhere near. Rubbish.

completely serious, googled 'livingston dbm' and found a forum they have (with about 4 members). When you think of ultras, Livingston aren't exactly the first club that comes to mind.

It certianly looked like Rocco was a Saints player on Saturday. It looked like he didn't wan't to be in a Livi strip - didn't try once all afternoon.

For every good performance Quinn put in for Saints he put in three or four performances where he was a waste of a jersey. Even on his good days he couldn't turn it on for more than half an hour without hiding again. His performance on Saturday for Livingston was typical of him really. We don't miss him.

In saying all that, he'd be a Saints player right now if it hadn't been for Celtic putting a ridiculous valuation on him.

...and a big thankyou to Celtic for that one. Everything I've seen from Quinn makes me think we had a lucky escape in not getting him. He's pony.

I will always be gratful to Rocco for that goal at Love Street that was genuis, but I dont think we miss him much

and the goal against livi which tempted them to get him

Actually when he came on at the end on Saturday I thought he had shed quite a few pounds. Maybe the teal top is slimming ;)

I thought he looked like he'd lost a lot of weight as well.

I think Jackson looked alot slimmer too. I wonder if Del thought the squad wasn't fit enough at the start of the season and has been putting them through their paces. Has this coincided with our turnaround in form?
