I know I'm a bit keen but hey...Onwards and upwards....

Another tough game coming up with Saints seeming to always struggle against Clyde for some reason.Having already managed to lose to them at McD this season at least we will know that in order to win the match , we will have to be at our best especially defensively. The goals we lost to them at McD were pretty shocking though and it would seem that McInnes has sorted our rearguard out thank goodness. Without taking Clyde lightly I think if we apply ourselves as we have over the last few games, we should leave Broadwood with all 3 points. It's another great chance to extend our lead at the top with the other sides up against each other.Somethings gotta give with Livi and The Pars and Dundee and QoS taking each other on.

I'm going for 2-0 Saints

Team wise I would go with a very similar starting 11 to the team that beat Ross County.McCaffery might be a doubt though after being taken off on Saturday. If we have the full squad available.

Main

Irving, Caff (Ando), Rusty, Craig.

Millar, Morris, Hardie, Sheerin

Savo, Holmes.

Subs. Kelly, Swankie, Samuel, Ando, McDonald, ( Morgan)

Injured . James????, McLean.

No place for. Jacko, Mooner or McKoy

If we do pick up the boy Smith on loan I'd have him straight in at Left Back.Move Craig into midfield and drop Sheerin to the bench and drop McDonald from the squad.

Whatever happens , there are some tough decisions ahead for McInnes

Yeah I think he might opt for Morris in the middle instead of Swankie. I am defo going through to Clyde now, was swithering about it b4 the County Game. Everygame has such a huge buzz about it at the moment - LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!:-)

Must admit to having that kind of feeling myself! We've had too many bad results against them in the past. I'd be really pleased with any form of victory in order to keep our good run going. Now that we've got our noses in front we really need to avoid stumbling against teams at the lower end of the table.

I can see us scrape a 1-0 or 2-1 win. Having the likes of Samuel and Peaso on the bench is a huge bonus and one of them would likely score, like saturday, if Holmes and Savo haven't scored.

Even if we draw, there's a good chance that the results will go for us again

I'd actually drop Holmes for Samuel, samuel can hold up the ball as Holmes does, but Samuels got pace to burn that Holmes dosnt.

Snap. Remember Hardie dragging us to victory at Clyde when we needed to stay in touch with Gretna. Take the same again.

We got absoultely pummelled that day. I remember McLaren and Peaso fighting as well. It was a very nervous 90 minutes.

I'd stick with the same settled team, but with jody coming in for swankie. Morris is lacking match sharpness, but he's only going to get that with game time. I'd keep Samuel ok the bench, but would be looking for him to get a longer run out than Saturday.

Does anyone what Clyde are having. Built at broadwood? Got the train back to Glasgow at the weekend and notice it, somethings being built where the fourth stand should be, but it didn't look much like a stand to me.

Only 2 games without a goal and he has been immense in both games. Also some said he got player of the month, I wouldnt drop him. After this we have two weeks before the Dundee Game - Savo Must start

I can see us scoring early here and generally dominating the game. Clyde are struggling at the moment and we should really be overpowering them from the word go.

savo normally sprint the 90 minutes, but didnt look his best than recent weeks on saturday, he stopped chasing some times and pace didnt seem good at SOME points, not all the time.

Have to laugh at the people saying to drop Savo, cause he's not scored for a while!! :D Mike you're right, he's been quality in the TWO games he hasn't scored in. Is that what we're wanting to give our strikers then?? Don't score in a couple of games, even playing well, but drop them anyway?? Plus he's just scored 5 goals in the last 5 games or something. I find the whole thing pretty funny.

North Lanarkshire Council are building a new £6 million state of the art sport and leisure facility. The area around Broadwood is growing really fast. It's a shame they have such a terrible support because they have a nice wee setup there and the stadium is very accessible.

It's also a shame Cumbernauld is an absolute shithole :p.

Are Clyde still a bunch of hammerthrowers or could we get away with Savo and Samuel up front? Last few times I've seen Samuel he's been a handful. I can't remember from the McD game what they were like, will have to wait for the horror flashbacks in 10 years.

It's also a shame Cumbernauld is an absolute shithole :p.

That may have been true 10/15 years ago. However, Cumbernauld has undertaken a massive trasnformation of late. Its biggest problem is it cannot shake off the image of that monstrosity they call a shopping centre. The new shopping centre is actually quite nice, but the old one needs bulldozed.

Believe it or not but Cumbernauld has above average earnings and employment levels meaning its a fairly affluent area. Places like Balloch, Smithstone, Craiglinn, Blackwood, Dullatur and Carrickstone are as nice as you will see in a modern Scottish Town.

Agree with the voices saying that Morris or Mooner should come in for Swankie and I think Paul Sheerin would be the first to admit games against Clyde don't always suit him, as there is little football played. Very rare that I don't find a spot for Sheerin but if Smith signs (still not convinced on this one) then I'd consider moving Craig into midfield.

id go with holmes up front and then possibly bring sammy on after an hour or so

I'm not sure if it's still true but Cumbernauld used to be one of the only places with above average earnings and below average house prices.

I sort of disagree though that those areas are that nice - they always seem to me to be just a collection of houses built on a gloomy moor. It all seems to be like Broadwood, a bit soulless.

Back to the topic in hand.
I am slighty worried about bad omens that this fixture has and the jinx manager of the month puts on us, plus the fact that we seem to have a few folk getting a wee bit carried away with the fact that we're a whole 4pts clear. There has already been talk of playing in the SPL next season almost as soon as we went top. Can I just remind people that it aint over till it's over, We can all remember quite clearly what happened two seaons ago! We were 120 seconds from playing SPL the next season not over 120 days.

Yeah, it's still true. The housing is cheaper because of the stigma attached to the Town's name. However, it's an ideal place for commuting into Glasgow so attracts mainly young professionals.

One of the drawbacks to living here is its proximity to both the Old Firm teams training complexes (Milngavie and Lennoxtown), and subsequently quite a number of their players now live in the surrounding areas.

I do see your point about the 'gloomy moor' factor though. The Northern and Eastern parts of town are built on moors and fields, which are hardly areas of natural beauty, though the houses are nice. However, the view onto the Campsie Hills aren't bad and as long as you live on my side of the M80, you will never see a ned wandering the streets.

New towns like Cumbernauld, Livingston and East Kilbride will never have the same charm as established cities like Perth, Stirling and Inverness due to the fact that modern houses just aren't as nice as 100 year old houses. However, its still a good place to live with good housing and transport links.

Morris will probably play for the reserves tonight against Arbroath so would imagine that he'll likely start on Saturday. Its a tough call to drop Sheerin. Even though the game doesn't suit him, I think the team looks more settled when he's playing and he's good at getting the ball and keeping possession

the last time i was at broadwood saints won 3-2, all 5 goals came from headers and paul bernard grabbed a last minute winner

the time before that was the challenge cup final against stranraer

still wondering whether i should make an appearance or not, always a shite day out.

I imagine this will be a very similar game to county on saturday, only difference being clyde need to get a run together rather than being on one. Keeping the faith and going for 1-0 saints, about time chris millar got a goal. Cmon sunbed chris!!

i think the last time i was at broadwood was for a must win game, we had an urgency about us to grind out a 1-0 win it wasnt pretty but needs must! it set us up nicely to beat qos the following week before THAT game:( , more of the same as i reckon clyde are a good side on there own patch and am very sure big jb will have them fired up, its not gonna be pretty again but the result is more important than the performance this time.

Would happily take a scrappy 1-0 win here. Never a big fan of games away at Clyde, it's always bloody freezing! I said before the County game that if we could go into the Dundee game with a lead of 3 points or more at the top I'd delighted, and hopefully that is something we can achieve!

If we do bring in Smith (I personally think it is unlikely), then I would probably move Craig forward to left midfield, and put either Sheerin or Morris in the middle with Hardie, and Millar on the right. Irvine, Ruti and Caff (if fit, otherwise Ando) complete the backline, with Holmes and Savo up front.

It is good that we have options at the moment. My midfield is missing the likes of Swankie, Mooner and either Sheerin or Morris - all of whom could easily stake a place for inclusion and all of whom have featured positively in the last couple of games. We also have Samuel or Macdonald to come off the bench if things aren't going quite right up top. Good times.

Don't want to get ahead of ourselves of course, but it is another game we need to be looking to win. They are bottom of the league and by all accounts playing terribly. Just hope our winning sequence doesn't come to an end at Broadwood!

Tough game this one! I'd take a 1-0 right now! We know this is a must win, as Livi, Pars, QoS and Dundee are all playing each other so hopefully we'll make the gap even bigger. A win here would help the nerves for Dens because they're getting back into the swing of things and it will be probably our most difficult game of the season when we go there.

I'd go with;

Main
Irvine Craig Rutkiewicz Caff (Ando)
Swankie Millar Hardie(although it pains me to say it! :p) Sheerin
Savo Sammy

Kelly Sherlock Moon Morris Ando (Caff or Morgan)

I hope Caff's fit!!
What's this rubbish about Smith! He's not going to come to us, end of! We can't afford him, and we're not a big enough club. :)

We should win... form and league placings all say so, but Clyde have often been our nemisis...

If we went into this game on such a good run, but playing classic sexy football, then I'd be very worried, as Clyde like to mix it... but most of our wins have needed some kind of fight, which should stand us in good stead for this one.

With Dundee v QOS and Livi v Dunfermline... that means at least two of the four teams that could challenge us will be dropping more points... another good Sunday looking at the table, me thinks!

I know and I think it will be Sheerin as McInnes seems to fancy Swankie more on the right. Peanut had a good impact against Clyde as a sub this season but usually these games don't suit him and Del actually benched him on our second visit there last season as well.

I think Millar, Moon/Morris, Hardie and Craig would have been the perfect midfield for this match.

Hards has missed some training this week. Might be Millar-Morris-Moon-Peanut

One option is Millar-Morris-Moon-Hards but that is a gamble as 50% of the midfield wouldn't be fully fit. Long time since Hardie played on the left. The free weekend has come at good time for Mental, he needs a break.

Come on you Saints!

Big mad mental blue and white massive loud away day at Clyde! Quick - get the posters up - less than 3 hours to kick off! I've contacted the PA but they cant publish it till Monday so i guess it'll have to be word of mouth for this one!

Na, all 'jokes' aside, i hope theres a decent crowd for this as its a shit place to go and i can forsee a scrappy 3 points rather than a bagger. More part timers the merrier as the noise will push the boys to a win again!

Hope to see Mooner and Morris today! Top of the League!

That was dreadful. Manager got the tactics badly wrong today i'm afraid. Savo should have been hooked long before he did. Swankie looked like he'd been told to not go down the wing. Then he took too long to sub him. We really missed caff at the back-we were all at sea. No real positives from today except nobody pulled back on our lead. Very poor. I guess we were due a bad performance.

That thing called hindsight is a wonderfful thing, if only Del and Doc could get some of yours.

Wasn;t the best of performances today but in all honesty a point at Clyde isn;t a bad result.

Biggest moan of the day though is to teh ar5eholes who booed at the end of teh match, Get a feckin grip you morons!!!

Its not hindsight if you realise it at the time though. I'm not that bothered about the result but we were poor and mistakes were made. You can't hide that. You can't fault the effort though, we were trying.

15-11-2008, 05:57 PM
Just in after match felt like two points lost rather than one gained. But on reflection, still top, still on a very important unbeaten run. Midfield seemed detatched from each other and left back-four exposed and uncertain. Willie McL skinned us at times and had a good game. Now convinced - until its proved otherewise - that Swankie is a sub who can come on for last twenty to change a game. Savo out of sorts and felt we were more commanding with Holmes on the pitch. Scorned two great first-half chances, a header by Holmes and Swankie one-on-one with keeper. Oh well another point gained.

Radford 72
15-11-2008, 06:07 PM
... but in all honesty a point at Clyde isn;t a bad result.
They are bottom of the league.

I'm not sure McInnes could have done too much differently today (although I'd have started with Morris or Moon) but we didn't impose ourselves on the game enough. Easy to say but the sad thing is that any of our other performances over this run would have been good enough to win the game.

Really disappointed with the result, although not especially surprised.

dave mc
15-11-2008, 06:11 PM
Slightly off the pace for most of the first half, but dominated for long spells in the second, when we had two good efforts just wide of the back post, before Rusty headed in off the post.Their equaliser was a result of ball watching, and an unfortunate bobble over Liams swinging left peg.I thought Swankie should have stayed on,as we lost a lot of width and pace when he went off(probably in a minority).Whilst he was indifferent for a lot of the game,he still had some good touches, and posed more of a threat than without him.Clyde caused us bother on the break all day,but both goals we lost were soft.

15-11-2008, 06:29 PM
I wouldn't blame Del for the result today, just too many players had a bad day.
Swankie for me was hopeless, I dont like to criticise players but he just wasn't in the game and didn't look interested. Savo had an off day, tried his best but nothing came off for him all game. Missed Caff at the back as there was some schoolboy defending today, especially the second goal. Hardie was superb so at least some good news.

At least we didn't lose, unbeaten run continues and we move a point futher ahead of livi and queens.

Disappointed but one bad result doesn't change anything, we're still top and heading in the right direction.

Chances were at a premium, despite the fact both teams scored two apiece. The match was pretty flat, but the old dear sitting a few seats to my right was worth the entrance money alone.

nice to meet you today ya bass

Why was old dear so entertaining? Saints ya bass?

Nice take on my username. She was pretty forthright with her views. Apparently, the Clyde number 4 (German laddie) was, and I quote, "disgusting".

She was denied her real moment of glory in the second half, though. Craig punted the ball out of play and some dobber in front of her jumped up and grabbed it just as she was shaping up to volley it in a Noose stylee.

Plus points. A point gained, unbeaten run maintained, good travelling support, players all had an off day at once and we still managed a draw, top of the league, 2 rivals drop a further 2 points behind us.

Negative points.Players, pretty much to a man had a poor day, Scumdee getting a wee bit closer, if the Pars beat Morton next week they go top..

More positives than negatives...Good.

One other thing...Mr. Fanny ( sorry Finnie) continued the run of ****ing scandlous refereeing in this league. He did not have a fecking clue and the linesman on our side was a usless cnut as well. This is not a biased moan as I believe he was hopeless for both sides.

Ah well ...Onwards and upwards...Bring on the Scum

Pretty average performance, but cant fault effort too much and in the main things were just not coming off for us, more just a slight off day than anyone playing really badly.

Midfield tho looked a little short of bite today with Swanky and Miller needing to be a little braver to add to the good flashes they showed, MMH went mental at them at one point for not getting stuck in.

To be honest and I risk having a fatwa put on my head I would maybe of hooked Wizard and put Swanky out left where he looks much better than on the right, just felt that we need a bit more pace to the midfield that the Wizard was not giving.

Sammy was excellent when he came on and if given a run will be a massive danger to anyone

I would of taken a point at the start of the game mind you.

Actually thought McLaren was pretty average and would not be close to our reserve team.

It was not the Prophet's best game in a St Johnstone jersey but you have propsed to incovenience him to accomodate a boy-child, who was barely better than an Arbroath junior. Fatwah on this infidel now.

Not the greatest game ever but we still should have won it given the chances we created but the finishing was poor. Thought we lost our shape a bit after Holmes went off and the midfield slowed up in the second half.

Can't complain though at being 3 points clear though and the main thing was that despite losing goals today we still played like a team and covered any individual mistakes.

Good enough result. Livi lost, as did Queens, and we're still 3-points clear. Plus tired legs now have a week's rest to get back in shape. Wasn't too chuffed with team selection- Mooner should have started in my opinion, in place of Swankie with Millar on the right. Plus, Sherlock/Savo had dried up, our combo should have been Sherlock/Samuel. But at least we got a point, and we're still on-top.

cant believe some asswipes booed at the end of the game, some fans annoyed me yesterday, every 5 mins some one would shout 'on the deck' or 'get it on the fecking deck.'
again i thought del was wrong to hook swankie instead of sheerin
shouldnt 1 of the clyde guys have been sent off, scythed our guy down just after picking up a yellow?
savo should of been hooked long before he was

What the **** are you on about???? What's wrong with wanting the ball played on the ground?? The big punts weren't working that well yesterday and after Holmes went off even less.I don't know about you but I'm desperate to see Saints " Play it on the fecking deck" now and again. When we do we invariabley produce great flowing attacks which result in goals.:?

16-11-2008, 04:02 PM
it usually came after a headed clearance or a kick out or any time the ball is in the air, i think football should be played on the deck but sometimes it just aint feasible, this was always going to be a very hard fought match and wasnt exactly going to pretty.
it just annoyed me as soon as it went in the air someone shout out

Scobby_SJFC
16-11-2008, 04:30 PM
The one thing that annoyed me about yesterday was the persistance in playing high balls even when Holmes went off
Samuel is the player you play the ball to and he'll turn, I think he was wasted a bit by the punts up to him, To be fair he did well with them but still we needed to pass clyde off the park yesterday not stoop to their level

Opportunity missed to go 5 points clear, but if it was going to happen anywhere, it was going to be at Broadwood.

Wee Willy was always going to have the last laugh and played very well, but that was to be expected with our run of ex players scoring against us. Their 2nd goal was totally avoidable but there you go, still top by 3 points so it's not all doom and gloom.

Was good to meet some new people from on here
