Hiya, just wondering if anyone can help me out,

Im doing a presentation in my Sport and the Media module at uni and basically want to discuss at some point what happened with the advert in the PA for the Rangers young supporters club.

If anyone fancies giving me a wee overview of what happened, when it happened etc that would be great, or if there is some way I can access the threads in which it was discussed I'd be very grateful

Thanx very much

Cary :)

Unfortunately you can't access that thread any more - it was part of the old BH forum which bit the dust when it got hacked by the Turks. I didn't bother saving any of it because it had all been pretty corrupted by the end.

I struggle to remember all the details now, but if it's any help I know it was around about the end of February 2005. Basically the PA printed a photograph of a Perth youngster who had been made Rangers mascot at an Ibrox match - but the thing that people were complaining about was the fact that it was accompanied by a big long paragraph giving details of how to join the Rangers' kids supporters club. A few letters were written to the PA about it, the PA's editor gave a few responses which completely missed the point (I think she went on about bigotry at one point), and I think the Saints fans federation then made a point of getting a plug for the Junior Saints in the next issue.

Perhaps some others on the forum with a better memory than me can be a bit more specific about filling in the details! :? :?: :(

Anyway, hope that helps!

Thanks a lot for the reply, it was fairly helpful as I don't need a lot of details, just wanted to refresh my memory.
Now I just need to make sure I don't go on an anti old firm rant in the presentation!!

Thanks again :D

BH, pretty much spot on.

Cary - the PA editor decided to use one of her editorial pieces to highlight that she thought bigotry was confined to the West Coast and didn't expect to find the level of "bigotry" through in Perth and the surrounding area (despite the fact she lived/still lives in the Lanarkshire area IIRC from the time). Yet the only complaints were because she was not promoting the local club, instead promoting the supporters club 60 miles down the road, nothing to do with bigotry at all.

Go on a huge anti-OF rant at the end though - bonus points if the lecturer follows the La Dee Da's of Thistle :***:
