View Full Version : Trip To Dingwall - 03/01/09

Hey folks, what's the plan for dingwall?
I've checked the train prices and times and they don't look too pretty.
Return times are 16:37 which would mean missing the end of the game then there's not another til after 19:00 and it involves a trip via Stirling.
Single on the way can be had for £11.00 but the return leg is over £40!!
Are many heading North for this and if so, who's taking a car? perfect opportunity to share fuel costs, driving etc?
If there are sufficient numbers we could even look at getting a self drive minibus for the journey. We'd obviously need someone over 25 (thats me out) to drive but i've checked a few online quotes out and we could get a 15 seater for £138 inc VAT with the minibus getting dropped off on the Saturday morning at 7:00 and picked up at 23:00?
Seems pretty good to me...

Im up for the trip north. Not too keen to drive though.
Problem with booking the train up early is that there is a good chance that the game will be called off because of the weather.

I'm definitely up for the trip. Not sure we'd get numbers for the bus at this time of year but would be up for it.
Train trip is always good but £50 is a little steep. One way or other we will get there.

Im sure we could club 10-12 people together for the trip.
we pretty much already have 5 with:
Me
Geoff Was Right
Stans The Man
St Tommy
Tractor Boy
I also have a potential driver in my thoughts...
edited to say: 12 seater comes in at £126.50 inc VAT
10 people would equate roughly £23 per person. £13 per head for transport and £10ish per head for fuel?

think your idea sounds good ryan. reckon we could get 10 bodies going easy enough, not sure who would be up for driving though! if we're struggling for numbers im sure we could arrange to pick up some extra bodies along the way - dunfermline or perth maybe?

That sounds like a no bad idea, I might be up for it as long depending on having adequate finances etc, after all the Christmas and New Year carry on.

Why don't you pm Wee John and The Lark Saint and gauge if there is likely to be any overspill for places from The Jeanfield 208 or the Dunkeld Rd club. The bus from Edinburgh will have to come past Perth and you could pick up a few there if demand exists and you have spaces to fill.It may be cheaper to get a 15 or so seater but I don't know how big you can go before getting into PSV territory.Just a thought.

Me and Nikki are definitely up for going, as is my sister who lives in Perth.
My old man, mum and auntie are up in Carrbridge/Aviemore for a week and, if we're getting train or bus, they were asking if they could jump on there.

And Gordon I told Ryan about your offer, You wanted to drive the bus home didn't you?

I'd rather book a 15 seater if we can fill it, it'll work out cheaper that way.
3 seats left based on a 12 seater, potentially 6 if we go 15. Ideally we'd like to get it done ASAP, before xmas if possible. Hurry up folks!
If we can fill the 15 seater it'll work out at £17 per head, I'm basing that on £100 of fuel and the cost of the bus split 15 ways. Don't really know how much fuel a minibus with 15 folk in it will use??
We have a willing driver for the trip North, still need someone willing to drive down the road, I'd have done it but its over 25's only for insurance reasons

You missed 'Geoff was right' from the list, so that only leaves a couple of spaces for the 12 seater.

Just saw this thread. Unfortunately doesn't look like I will make this one (the old Inland Revenue have decided to take away some of my Christmas Cheer Fund).
I'd be interested if this was done again in the future though.

I'll check tonight and confirm for you - 2 for definites though.
If we can do a pick up somewhere on the bypass in Perth and Aviemore I'm sure it will be another 2 definites. Although if you get another couple of Edinburgh Saints looking for a seat, you should definitely give them priority over these "outsiders"!

Couldn't get the old man, but spoke to my sister - her husband might be going as well now. They're probably going to get the train up and meet us there.
I might have 1 more person, depending on when he's heading back out to Lisbon after new year and whether his burd will let him go to Dingwall!

Good luck to you Ryan with this. I will be eyeing up nubile continentals at work that day, but will be there in spirit(s).
If this is a success (which it should be), we could maybe look into doing something similair for the Queen of the South game in February? I believe you can get a decent deal on the choo-choo for Dumfries but we can always look into the prospects of filling a bigger bus.

We only seem to have 9 definites, so it looks as if maybe car sharing might be better for this one.
I'm thinking with the potential weather problems at this time of year, taking a couple of cars up will be a safer bet

Why don't you take a couple of cars up to Perth and join the Jeanfield 208 ,there is still lots of spaces on the J208 buses. I was speaking to WEE JOhn this afternoon ,he is hoping to get 70/80 for the 2 buses they have booked ,but there is still space.
If the game is called off ,i Don,t think you would be charged anything so it is a good deal. Just a thought. I do miss having you guys and girls on the main thread!

Have to agree. Forecast doesn't look good and not enough for the bus anyway.

Judging by the chat in the pub before the Partick game there seemed to be a bit of interest in getting the bus up and potentially include for a driver too. Im guessing Ryans earlier cost for the self drive mini bus wont change much, nor will the train fare. I got a quote for a 16 seater (smallest they have) and driver and it comes in at 540 quid! (34 quid each) Would be worth it if we filled or got close to filling the bus but otherwise perhaps another option needed. Any one up for this or have any thoughts?
If numbers are small and no one really up for driving we could probably get a couple of car loads through to perth and jump on the 208 supporters bus.
