Any thespians on here?

I like a trip to the theatre from time to time and hear that the 7:84 Theatre Company have had their funding stopped... that's bad news as they always provided a different perspective and were very good at targetting a new audience, not used to attending theatres.

Anyway, what's the Talented Mr Ripley all about?

Borrowed from a film critic site, this is an overview of the plot - have seen the film and it was certainly better than it sounds from this overview.

'The 1950s. Manhattan lavatory attendant, Tom Ripley, borrows a Princeton jacket to play piano at a garden party. When the wealthy father of a recent Princeton grad chats Tom up, Tom pretends to know the son and is soon offered $1,000 to go to Italy to convince Dickie Greenleaf to return home. In Italy, Tom attaches himself to Dickie and to Marge, Dickie's cultured fiancée, pretending to love jazz and harboring homoerotic hopes as he soaks in luxury. Besides lying, Tom's talents include impressions and forgery, so when the handsome and confident Dickie tires of Tom, dismissing him as a bore, Tom goes to extreme lengths to make Greenleaf's privileges his own.'

Hmmm, been offered a 2 for 1 offer to go to see it... doesn't sound very appealing, however, the Missus may like it and I may get Brownie Points!

Yeah thats not great news, my brother used to be part of the company before he went onto work on films... been to see a few of their things over the years and as you said often bringing in a fresh audience

Id give it a try. Much better than I thought. Quite clever in parts but a disappointing ending.
