I have been getting e-mails about this and wondered if it would work

The Stirling Albion fans trust tried to get 1000 home fans for the game against Raith yesterday. Ok they only got 837 (on a cold day with live rugby on the TV) but thats still an improvement and they plan to keep going with the Your City, Your Team campaign for the next few months.

Would this work in Perth. OK we would want 2500 home fans

After the Celtic issue in the PA this would be a perfect time to start

For a look at the stirling forum click here (http://www.stirlingalbion.com/forum/)

with only three home games left this season it probably isn't a good time to start...

The project is actually being run from this web site (http://www.redwebforum.com/ycyt/ycyt.htm) and promoted on the official forum

They also have a sence of humour (http://www.chtoons.com/albion.html). The second cartoon would work for us ! :***:

As 1884 says maybe an idea for next season

How many is many, before I argue with your point?

Wasnt really a serious point 208, but why would me giving you a number affect your arguement?

If you are about to say that there is a good representation of Stirling fans then your arguement should be sound enough without me giving you a figure to work round.

I was a student in Stirling and used to watch them quite a lot when I couldn't get to see Saints, so I've always been quite interested in the lack of support they have in the town.

I think I mentioned this on the old forum but I think it's vaguely-relevant so I'll bring it up again! I've always felt Stirling missed out on a massive opportunity by building Forthbank at its current location. A large percentage of the population is students, but they seem to take no advantage of that. When you move to a new town - as many students are doing - there's always a bit of a novelty factor about going to watch the local team. When I started Uni in 1st Year there was a large group of us who started going to watch Albion for a few weeks - but the expense of getting out to the stadium and paying to get in meant that the novelty soon wore off. But if the club could tap into the fact that there's a constantly changing student population in the town (meaning the novelty value is there for new people every single year), they could increase their backing.

There's a lot of land at Stirling Uni, a lot of car parking space, and it's already got the SportScotland base. It would be a massive project, but I always thought it would be a great idea for the football club, the University and SportScotland to split the money three ways on building an SPL-suitable sports stadium somewhere on the Uni grounds and running it as a joint project. That way, the football team would be right on the doorstep of all of those students who live there and have nothing to do on a Saturday afternoon. Apply a massive student discount to the gate and I reckon a fair number would go along (surely having a proper league club playing within the grounds with cheap entrance would be a draw?).

In the meantime, the Uni (and SportScotland) would be left with state-of-the art sports facilities which all of its teams and clubs could use there (if the Uni football team for example were playing inside a proper stadium, like the College teams do in America, it would get them a fair bit of publicity).

I've always thought the same Gary - loads and loads of land there - it would add to the already excellent facilities. For those who don't know Stirling, the uni is about as far as you could get from Forthbank. It takes at least two buses to get there.

Would be a brilliant project, but unfortunately even if they started it now it would never be finished before I leave! Will probably never happen anyway.

wouldn't a more realistic option be for the club to arrange a couple of buses from the campus to Forthbank, not that I actually care that much, except for a short time when Brogie was their manager?

Don't be so lazy Jamie - you could cycle there in 15 mins max!!

I doubt that would have much impact. A few might use it, but it's hardly the same thing as having the football on your doorstep - and besides, part of the point of my plan is that it would improve the Uni/SportScotland facilities in the process.

I think a lot of the problem would be the structure of the stadium. Currently they are not allowed to build upwards as it would spoil the green-belt appearance. This came to the fore when they were building the new rugby ground, the Uni wanted to have seating put 2k put in but the Council said no to the planning permission. Therefore, they have an international sized rugby pitch but you have to stand around the sides to watch.

Also, regarding the students going to the footie, given the number of rugby, hockey, football and american football matches played there on Saturday's plus the golf, running and swilling activities, you would be lucky to get many going to Forthbank.

They did manage to get permission to build that horrendously out-of-place and ugly swimming pool building there though. That should never have been put there. If they'd built the all-encompassing sports stadium I'm suggesting, the swimming pool could have been part of the same facility (it could have been down a level, underneath the football pitch).

Also, regarding the students going to the footie, given the number of rugby, hockey, football and american football matches played there on Saturday's plus the golf, running and swilling activities, you would be lucky to get many going to Forthbank.

Surely you could move most of that stuff to a Sunday, though? Part of the idea is that these clubs would all be using the same stadium as Stirling Albion, so it would be in their interests to use it on a different day. Besides, I think there are plenty of football fans at Uni who don't participate in any of the things you mentioned.

If I remember correctly, that was because the rugby pitch was built at the highest point possible on the campus and any stands etc would have blotted the landscape and been visible from miles away.

A quality stadium could have been built behind the swimming pool where the current football pitch and running track are, but the new indoor tennis (?) building being erected at the moment has probably put paid to that.

The area around Forthbank is about to be developed with a new indoor sports centre and I believe a cover going over the astro turf, the thing about Forthbank is that Stirling Albion never built it, the ground and the stadium is owned by the local Council. They have also been trying to get the SportScotland Hq built in the area but it looks like that is going to fail and the ground opposite parkhead is being earmarked for it.

The area around the University is getting pretty much developed and the excellent sports facilities there are mainly aimed at the institute of Sport with the Scottish Swimming Academy, Scottish Tennis centre and falkirk all using the facility as for building a stand at the rugby pitch i can't see the point in it as Stirling already has a quality rugby ground with lights which holds international matches. The area around teh rugby pitch has historic significance as well with the battle of Stirling? allegedly taking place not to mention the nearby Castle where I was actually born  :***:
