As much as our minds cannot help wandering down the Tay and dreaming of the greatest of all glories, a title win in the devils lair, I would like to remind you all that we must play Queens first and they must be afforded a level of respect they deserve. The simple fact is that we have failed to collect three points from them in the three games already played.0-0, 2-2, 3-3. We must continue to take it only one game at a time and concentate our energies on this game. As has been done in recent times, we must mobilize our support to give the team the twelth man backing they tell us is so important. As this game is also on the box it is even more important we get the troops off there arses and into the stands.. So hows about we have a pre party meeting at say 3.15 pm on Sunday the 19th April at McDairmid Park Crief Road Perth...
I would love to see as many of you as is humanly possible making this meeting..
Team wise, I would be delighted to see the same starting 11 with possibly Sheerin in for Swankie and McDonald on the bench in place of Doris if he is fit. I don't think Jody will make this game as it will come to soon but maybe , just maybe , a place on the bench..( more likely a place on the bench for Dens...)

According to the reports Steve Tosh came oin yesterday and scored with his forst touch. He'll possibly start but then again maybe with his age he's now their super sub. I always liked Tosh.
Saints to carry on in their current form with a 2-1 win which takes us to the finishing tape ready to break it in the next three games

I realised if we win then we effectively have won the league unless partick win..... if say we win and morton win or draw then its down to goal difference..... that's gotta be a bit weird - we've like won the league but can't PROPERLY celebrate.... :S ... I take it everyone will wait until its mathematically IMPOSSIBLE for anyone else to win....
In conclusion - party at Dens then - thought so.

Lincolnshire no More
13-04-2009, 12:37 AM
No we have to wait. We go on and lose our next three games and they score pots of goals and suddenly their goal difference beats ours. In those possible circumstances the SFL has to wait until we can't be caught.

but the bad thing for morton they still have to come to McDiarmid so its unlikely
Big/noisy crowd needed next Sunday!
Every Saints fan wants to win the league at Dens and the best chance of doing that is by winning next week.
Not surprising that when Kev played Scooter at half time last week the atmosphere lifted. Think, as a one off, Saints should run out to Runrig - Loch Lomond to really get the fans in full voice? How good would it be having the whole of the East stand singing to that!
Mike180279

but the bad thing for morton they still have to come to McDiarmid so its unlikelyOne could agrue that this is perfect for them. If we go on to get beat by dundee 1-0, and airdrie 1-0 they would only need to record a 3 goal margin (assuming they won their other games by odd goals)
not that would happen, just in theory.

Man of vision - so would I. Team looked solid against Dunfermline putting aside a couple of wobbles including Gartland for penalty, but hard to see how anyone would want to change the team much.
Noticed Gartland impeding his man at the home game against DAFC too needs to watch it doesn't catch him out again.

QOS come in confidence and want to "spoil the party" according to their club website:
Gordon Chisholm will be hoping that Queens can delay St Johnstone's 'promotion party' when they meet at McDiarmid Park in the televised match on Sunday.
Says 'Chis', "It's a big day for both clubs with so much at stake. It's another tough one and we'll have to keep it tight at the back. Although we respect St Johnstone we don't fear them as we've drawn thrice already this season. They've all been close, hotly contested games and I'm expecting the same this time around and we'll go up there with our confidence 'sky-high' after that Thistle result "

Yes QOS will be coming to win and upset our plans but their form is very strange. They have lost to Ross County at home and Airdrie Utd. away yet when they play the top teams away from home like Dundee and Partick they have come out victorious. Most of their other recent results have been draws. I think they will psyche themselves up for the game against us but we'll win narrowly and head for the big one next week hopefully.

I think Saints should let everyone in for £5. They will not lose too much as there will be few Queens fans & there would`nt be too non season ticket holders there. They would make up any loss with the catering & it may get some atmosphere into the stadium.

Sorry, but that is complete tosh. Even if Saints took 100% of the catering profit it wouldn't come close; never has and never will. Motherwell have already shown what happens when prices are slashed. Whenever Saints have done this, the people of Perth have responded with ill-informed indifference. No reason to cut prices, keep the gate price fixed and use the money wisely.

I agree with that, the fee we get for this game from Alba (I'm sure i saw it was about £9000 somewhere) is equivalent to a little over 500 paying adults. So dropping prices to £10 or less would mean a crowd of over 4000 being required to make the usual gate. I would hope we achieve that, but TV and current climate may dictate may say otherwise. Won't be many traveling from Dumfries either.

Time to put party thoughts on hold for the next couple of days and get ourselves up for this on. If Dens is a main course consisting of Lobster Thermador with fresh buttered asparagus and Duchese potatoes then the Queens game is a starter of smoked duck breast with wild forest mushrooms and a rich Claret jus. And remember what yer maw always said." if you dont finish your duck young man , they be no lobster for you tonight".

Will we be seeing Ando at left back again for this?
It seems very strange that McInnes seems to favour him in this role in recent and previous matches vs Dunfermline, but not in many other games this season. He's done a decent job there recently, it just seems peculiar that he hasn't played there more regularly, but Del has suddenly started playing him there when he is apparently injured.
Either McInnes thinks he is peculiarly suited to Dunfermline games, has lost confidence with Craig at left back, or suddenly decided he fancies playing him despite leaving him out for most of the season. Odd.

Plenty of attacking effort in the second half but missed some good chances. Difference between the sides, as obvious as it sounds, was that Queens took their chances, we didn't (or at least not all of them). They hardly "stole" the points - we gave them away. Feel sorry for Ando but as has been said on here a few times before you can always expect a monumental cock up from him sooner or later and they rarely go unpunished. Yet again lack of a settled left back causes us problems. Next week will now be a 'nervy' affair!

I'm gutted .. If I'm totally honest we never really deserved anything from the game. Too many players just never turned up today. Some shocking decisions by a completely inept referee did not help but at the end of the day we lost because we were not good enough on the day, not because the referee was shite. I think it hurts more because we got it back to two all then gifted them the winner. I dunno what it looked like on TV but certainly to me it looked like Kean was played onside by Craig for the winner. Just have to put this one to bed and remember we are 4 points clear with 3 games to go and it is still completely in our own hands. I know it's a cliche but if we had been offered a 4 point lead with 3 to go in August we would have grabbed it with both hands. Good to see Holmes getting one in the net.
Nothing is ever easy with Saints and we can still win the title at Dens if We get all 3 points and Partick lose to Livi. For that to happen though we will have to play much better, show some composure and above all not panic. If it goes to the Morton game or even Airdrie away last day I care not. I firmly believe Saints WILL be Champions.
Lets keep the faith guys and girls , lets all get down to Dens and lets get right behind them one more time.
One other disappointment was the level of abuse the team was taking when we were two down. We have no god given right to win anything and some of you people need to take a long hard look at yourselves.
Onwards and upwards...

Kean was def onside for the last goal Ghostie. Agree with your sentiment - what disappointed me most was that we managed to get ourselves into the position of claiming a valuable point from a game that had passed us by for long periods, only to gift them a late winner.
The team needs us more than ever now - we need to revert Craig to LB for the full 90 as Ando cant play there.

The worst bit about today was that Queens didn't even have to employ their counter-attack tactics because we handed it to them on a plate anyway. We looked better balanced in the second half with Sheerin linking with Craig. I take it Gartland was injured to be swapped at half time because to leave bombscare Anderson in there was a ridiculous choice if he wasn't.
Main kept us in it with a block from Dobbie that could have been avoided (again). Good spirited comeback but the winner was just another farcical defensive decision which in all fairness hasn't really been common this season.
Overall they weren't worth the points but then again either were we with the defending that took place.
Heads up, roll on Dens.
PS- Referee and Linesman combined to provide the most inept display I have seen from official this season and that takes something. Take a bow Mr Richmond.

Saints are my team, I love them, my dad took me to see them as a nipper, no-one I work with has any idea who they are, - Got to be good!! Where's the pub in London for the Dundee match? Can't make it north so may have to party on my own.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGHHH
Why do we have to make things so difficult for ourselves?!
Why was gartland subbed? Was he injured? He wasnt playing well but then noone was.
Just like the Partick game i found myself saying aloud "aww McInnes what are you doing?" when I saw the changes at half time.
We were fairly honking yet still could of won that if it hadnt been for the completely useless Richmond, and 1 or 2 lapses in concentration.
Think im gonna have a bit of sunburn, which nicely tops off a shitty day. Some physical pain to go with the mental. Braw

Ando was awful.
totally agree ando cost us the game!! hes not a left back he was the worst player on the park he should have been taken off!!
And when was it an offence to shout at the linesman? A police officer came and said to stop shouting at the linesman because we are being watched!!! what a load of bolloks!!

I guessed he would hook Ando or Gartland at half-time but thought it'd be the former. Gartland wasn't playing well but he's played the last few matches alongside Ruti and they are getting a better understanding, whilst that's the first time Rutkiewicz and Anderson have been paired this year. Not much you can say about Ando's second half performance, he'll know himself he just had a stinker, although Rutkiewicz had an off day as well.
When they scored their second they managed to successfully kill the game, so credit to the lads for fighting back but to then throw it away is hard to take. Savo was trying to keep the ball in so we could find a winner but the ultimate irony is that Queens benefit from the injury time they added to the match.
It's good have a strong squad but it'd be nice if McInnes could get the actual starting XI right one week. Well done to the subs though.

I didn't need to visit it - there were already 3 people in it and the 4th would have taken it over capacity! It makes Broadwood look impressive!
Granted you absolutely romped it in this division and fair play for that. I'm just saying there's no doubt we're a better team than you these days. Last season's cup matches were just a preview. You might be in the league above us but you're delusional if you think that automatically makes you a better team. Now off you trot son, must be time for your next hit of the good gear anyway.

Frustrating but he's not scared to hook people at half-time, he's done that more than any manager i can remember. So self-aware in that he knows when things are not working.

sorry but gartland is better than ando, ando cost us the game no point in moving him into the middle he had a bad game from the start. Shouldnt have changed the centre of defence!! i understand what your saying but at the end of the day it was down to andos stupid mistake and dels for playing him in a position he does not play in.

And yet his decision to keep a player on effectively cost your side a point, if what has been typed here is to be believed.

He had to leave on of them on though! Both Gartland and Anderson (and Rutkiewicz and Irvine, to be fair) had a poor first half but you can't hook all four. There's only so much the manager can do.
He has many faults but his ability to read and change a game isn't one. It's one of his best attributes.

Well his decisions got us back into a game we are 2-0 down in so yes. Good to have you back JYB - alas you forget they beat you by a greater margin thus assisting our goal difference. I'll buy you a drink at 208 after Morton game, when my glass will flow over.

Nothing to do with confidence the 2nd goal. Shocking defending. Dobbie blind sided him but surely he could have got a shout. Even on a pixellated zattoo screen the last two goals were just lack of communication.
Hopefully Caff back next week. We still need two wins. or 1 win and two draws to go up on GD if Thistle win 3 from 3.

I'll take your word for it, because it's something I trust, but listening to some of your fans and reading what they have to say on here would suggest the opposite.
I've lost count of the number of times his substitutions or his decision to tinker with your formation has been blamed for the loss of points. The game against us at McDiarmid being a recent example.

Jesus, what a disaster that game was, we couldn't have done any more to gift QOS the points
Moon missed an open goal, Hardie missed from 7 yards out and Anderson couldn't have done any worse if he tried to
We're still on for a win but the game at Dens is now essentially a must win game, I don't fancy us winning against Morton at home

That was actually a very rare example of him changing something for the worse during a match. His tinkering is usually done before the match, so it's changes rather than substitutions that are the problem.
Comes back to what I said about it being nice if he could get his starting XI right.

Fair point as I think Livvy are due something next week. Also Airdrie will still be fighting to avoid automatic relegation at Firhill the next week. I see them dropping two points from these games.

08/11/08 - Partick Thistle 2-0 Clyde
22/11/08 - Partick Thistle 2-1 Livingston

Done for comedic affect, but it actually serves to highlight your point. We have to go back to November to pinpoint a three-win run for Thistle. The one and only time it happened during the season.

St Mirren are well ahead of us in my opinion. They also have in Dorman a player capable of changing a game. I think we lack that individual brilliance. Although in fairness the Murn struck gold with Dorman and it's a matter of time before he shifts to pastures new.

A midfield playmaker and goalscorer is exactly what you're lacking. Sheerin's displayed some breathtaking moments of skill this season, but age and, with it, consistency is against him. You'd be romping it if you possessed a creative midfield player in the Harkins mold.
