| 1. STICK TO THE TOPIC |
| All threads will tend to change and evolve naturally over time - the Moderators accept that. However, out of respect for everyone who reads and uses the forum, please do not take threads completely off-topic. Any posts made that violate this are liable to be edited, deleted or commented upon by a Moderator.
If you come onto the forum and do not see your topic already being discussed, this is no excuse to simply add it anywhere and take an existent thread off-topic - you are allowed to start a new thread of your own!
At the same time, please do not start a new thread without first checking whether or not one already exists on the same subject. The forum is constantly in use and, more often than not, news is posted up very quickly. In other words, if Saints are playing on the Saturday, don't start a new thread about the game on the Monday, because you can bet there'll already be a thread on it. If in doubt, use the forum's "Search" facility at the top of the page to check before posting. |
| 2. FREEDOM OF SPEECH |
| We Are Perth strongly believes in and encourages freedom of speech. If you have an opinion, you are allowed to exercise it on here. Similarly, you are allowed to challenge other people's opinions using reasoned debate, no matter whether or not the majority are likely to agree with you. Free speech does not mean being offensive to an individual personally, but it can mean being critical, cynical or humorous in relation to the view taken, the supported establishment or any other stance taken by an individual.
However, freedom of speech is not the same thing as being allowed to say anything you want. If a post is deemed to be malicious, untrue or potentially libellous, the Moderators have the power and the right to edit or delete it as they see fit. This is for the good of everyone using the forum, as any threat of legal action against the site would almost certainly result in the whole thing being closed down by the site admin.
Any instances of bigotry, racism or homophobia will not be tolerated on the forum. There is also a zero-tolerance policy on using the forum for promoting, inciting and/or organising hooligan, "casual" or general trouble-making behaviour. The posting of pornographic material/images is also not allowed. Anyone disobeying these rules is likely to be banned. |
| 3. REMOVING POSTS |
The moderating team reserve the right to edit or remove any individual post from the forum. From time to time it is necessary for posts to be removed for a variety of reasons. Thankfully, this is an extremely rare occurrence and only happens as a last resort. If your post is removed, you will receive a Private Message informing you of the decision and the reasoning or a post carrying an explanation will be left on the offending thread.
Some previous reasons for removing posts have included (non-exhaustive list):
- Invasive discussion of personal lives
- Posting illegal football streaming links
- Discussion/planning of pitch invasions at matches
This forum has built up a good relationship with the club and the local media and it is the intention that this should continue. Posts with the potential to damage the forum will be removed. |
| 4. NAME-CALLING & SMILIES |
| Name-calling and personal abuse is not allowed on the forum. Anyone breaking this rule is likely to have their posts either edited or deleted by a Moderator. Anyone who continuously breaks this rule after having it pointed out to them (either on the forum itself or via a Private Message) will be given an official warning. Saying afterwards that you were joking is NOT an excuse - on an internet forum it is often impossible to tell what people's individual sense of humour is and whether or not comments are made in jest. That is why smilies are provided for use with your posts, so please use them (e.g. if you make a jokey remark, accompany it with an appropriate smilie symbol so that people know you're not being serious and your comment is taken in the spirit intended). |
| 5. TEXTSPEAK |
| Textspeak (SMS language) is not allowed on the forum. Textspeak is used on mobile phones because of space restrictions, but these restrictions do not apply to the forum so users are expected to communicate in "normal" English and proper sentences. Anyone breaking this rule is likely to have their posts either edited or deleted by a Moderator. Anyone who continuously breaks this rule after having it pointed out to them (either on the forum itself or via a Private Message) will be given an official warning. |
| 6. PROOF-READ YOUR POSTS |
| Please take the time to read what you've written before posting it. What seemed like a perfectly reasonable and intelligent post while it was in your head may not seem that way to others if you've spelled every word incorrectly or left out all the full-stops and spaces between your words! We want the forum to be as accessible as possible to everyone who reads it, and this includes people whose first language may not be English. If you have a valid point to make, it's in your own interests as much as anyone else's that people are actually able to understand it! |
| 7. MAKE YOUR POST COUNT |
| Unless a thread specifically asks you to do so, please do not reply to threads with short messages such as "I agree", "I disagree", "yes" or "no". Such responses are essentially meaningless to people who do not know you, and add nothing to the discussion. Everyone is welcome to put forward an opinion, but please back up and give reasons for your opinion so that it contributes to the debate. |
| 8. PRIVATE MESSAGES |
| The forum has a very good PM facility and users are expected to use either this or other forms of off-forum communication (e.g. e-mail) when discussing anything that is private or unlikely to be of interest to the majority reading the forum. Examples of this include exchanging addresses or telephone numbers, making "in-jokes" and arranging meet-ups with each other (unless, of course, everyone on the forum is invited!). |
| 9. AVATARS |
Forum members are provided with the facility to upload an avatar picture to appear alongside their posts. This facility can be accessed by editing your user profile.
Avatars must not exceed the maximum dimensions of 150 x 100 pixels or the maximum file size of 30kB.
The forum moderators reserve the right to remove any avatar which is deemed to be unsuitable. |
| 10. MULTIPLE USERNAMES |
| Multiple usernames are not permitted on the forum. Anyone found to be, or suspected of, registering on the forum more than once (for whatever reason) will have their extra usernames deleted and, in extreme circumstances, may be banned from the forum. |
| 11. GETTING BANNED |
| Only in extreme cases, or in a situation where someone continually breaks the rules, will a banning ever be necessary. If you are banned, there is no appeal process. It will be up to the discretion of the admin and moderators to decide whether or not to lift the ban at a future date. |
