    Kick Off Time At Last!

Thankfully here we go again, and time for us all to get behind the Saints once again. After a brilliant year and magnificent Scottish Cup Win, the close season on WAP has been full of negativity (Some deserved, some downright bitchy) Lets all let bygones be bygones and lets get behind the team again 100 per cent for the new season and Euro Adventure. Lets has some positive vibes on here and wish Steve Brown, Tommy and the Team all the Best for the new season. Looking forward to having a blast in Lucerne!! COYS

    New Strips

Have to say I don't mind it - think it looks alright. But I don't really get the point of bringing out one that's almost identical to last season's. Given that the manufacturer and shirt sponsor are the same, if the club were truly keen to keep the red and black thing going then I think it would have made more sense to keep last season's away top as a third strip, and bring out something else completely different as the away strip. Personally, I'd still like another 'teal and magenta halves' away kit - think that would be a big seller. Incidentally, is there actually a reason why the club appear to have been keeping the away strip such a big secret? It's almost as if it's been done deliberately. A kit launch is such an obvious money-making opportunity - I just cannot understand why it's not on the Official website and there have been no pictures of the players modelling it. It just makes absolutely no sense.

OK i have thought about this long and hard and will answer the Questions, 1/ Was it that late?Plenty of time for new season really was it not?The may have been a possibility of getting forms out sooner but the Cup Final would have taken up a lot of the staffs time.I also feel that there is only so much you can do to entice people and if you want a strip/Season Ticket you would get it anyway. 2/ Got to defend Saints on this one!It was out in plenty of time, weeks before the season started and a massive improvement on previous seasons, cant see the problem. 3/ What exactly is continuous Cup winning Celebration?Do you want a parade in the town every Sunday?Perhaps the bus went to fast for you on 18th 4/ You might have a point about this, but it is not the Chairman's job i wouldn't,have thought, i am a bit surprised Cossy wasn't all over this like a rash.maybe the Club are looking at the Christmas market for this. 5/ I just think The Chairman comes over like that, but not meaning to sound bad , i believe he is a realist and like his father before him, we are not always going to like what he says/ does, but i would bet 99% of his decisions and his father's before him have been to the benefit of the Club. I remember sitting in the Social Club at Stranraer when it was announced that Muirton had been sold to Asda and Saints were on the move..I bet you 90% of folk that night that we were doomed! I have trusted the browns to do the right thing ever since, despite a bit of a ding dong with GB about the Dunkeld Road Club asside. 6/ See ONE. 7/ I have my doubts if this would work, even on a semi permanent basis, and not sure it would be viable! You have Campus all year round with a good variety of Saints merchandise , and you can get some stuff at McDiarmid reception and the Club shop on Match days,it is my opinion that a Kiosk would be poorly attended barring popular times like Cup Winning time!Christmas ect. and Who would man such a project? I dont really buy much stuff on line for personal reasons(IE its Killing te shops) but perhaps for those not in Perth The on Line merchandising could be improved, but as i say i dont know much about it and Certainly dont think you can blame the Chairman direct 8/ FOR YEARS NOW most of have been pleading for youngsters to be given a chance.I was lucky enough to be invited to the Inaugural Youth Awards as a Sponsor(WAPBarossa) and it was clear from that night that both the Manager and Chairman were determined to improve on youth and youth Facilities Incuding upgrading the all weather pitch..Both said that night that 5 players would be promoted to the first team and this has happened, and i for one am delighted.!Lets put it this way how many would have predicted Stevie Mays inclusion and performances at this time last year.?I think the next to step up will be Scott Brown and i believe he will start on Thursday! Then you have Chris Kane!Who knows if he is the same as Stevie May but i would rather him than another Fallon or big Chris. Despite all this i still think we will see one or two new faces before the window at shuts at the end of August, a lot for me will depend on the result on Thursday, ie if we are still in the tie and have a high turnout at the home game, and if the League Finally come up with a sponsor, something that i am afraid i have no confidence in those that run the League producing, but i am certain effects our budget, as does not having Hibs,Hearts and The The in our League. I do think the Manager and Chairman could have been more united on this front though, but to sum up i would rather youth was given its chance than some washed up League 2 dud. 9/Dont know what to say to this but will say this,The new Director is a good friend of mine and is no free loader, and will work his socks off for the good of St.Johnstone, as do all the other directors, to insinuate that any of them are in it for a wee freebie to the Swiss Alps is insulting at best!!

Is Steve Brown Qualified / Should He Go

We have won the Cup with an average home following of less than 3000 fans, which I'd hazard a guess at being the lowest supported club to win the Cup in the professional era. We've punched above our weight on the pitch, but it's the financial security that we have which is purely down to the Brown's which has allowed us to progress as a club. They deserve as much credit as TW, Lomas (as much as I disliked him) and the players for where we are and what we've achieved. The club isn't perfect, but people need to recognise where we are in the history of Saints, maybe a period of success we'll never see again, and hold their hands up and thank the Brown's for providing that.

wrong on so many counts! He was highly regarded at the Club by all who knew him, he will be sadly missed by many at the Offices. He was presented with a Season Ticket for life a few years ago.And he was unable to go to the Final the Club visited him with Mementos including a framed Cup FinalTop.i have read a few of your posts of late and not agreed with them but to now use the passing of a popular Saints figure to have a dig at the Club is well.....Just low!

Beloved has bought me new home strip for birthday. First Saints top I've ever had. When I was a lad, if you wore a football top in public, you were either a player on your way to training, or you'd got lost on your way to PE. Dead chuffed, btw.

Just to add. The SFA didn't pay for the final out of their 10% cut - that wouldn't have paid for the fireworks and balloons - probably literally. All income is chucked in a big pot. The costs are paid. The SFA took 10% of what was left, and then split what was then left between DU and Saints. Right, this is tedious. Move on. I think we were at Steve Broon is a chunt because he didn't buy some American a pint.........

I've just read the Courier's report of an interview with Steve Brown (11 July) the main thrust of which is SB saying we will not be buying "just in case players to sit in the stand". I have to say I agree with that and everything else that SB is reported to have said. I liked particularly 1. His statement that our current wage bill is already higher than last seasons because the players who did so well for us have been rewarded, 2. That wage bill stands to get bigger if May and Tommy Wright agree to enhanced contracts on offer, 3. The plans to improve training facilities and to put more cash into the under 20s. I did not like the reference to the SFA taking a 42% cut of the total Scottish Cup earnings, which would affect us most of all as we WON!! It was interesting to see that 3 new signings would cost £170,000 which must mean we would pay £1,000 per week. I don't think we would get Messi for that even after his poor World Cup. In short I'm delighted with where Saints are at present. I've supported them since 1946 and have always said I regard success as a top half of the table finish and a good run in the cups. What will I be looking for this coming season? A top half of the table finish and a good run in the cups! Anything from Europe will be a bonus. PS One thing that stands out from the SB interview is that it was a mistake to sign Rory Fallon.

What concerns me is the backlash and criticism that will inevitably come when expectations of a number of supporters are not met as the season progresses. Last season was the best ever season for the club, so realistically this season will not be as good. I'm not doing a Lomas and being negative about the team, it's just that we can't see last season as the new benchmark to which Saints must achieve. Coming down from such a high point may be too much for some, and so the moaners might as well start now with TW must go, the Chairman must go, How many amongst us are prepared for a bottom six finish and no cups? Three European adventures on the trot is outstanding, it cannot go on. Are we ready for that aswell? Is the beating of Rosenborg the new benchmark for Saints in Europe. Will a defeat by Lucern be seen as a major failing, below the standard which is acceptable? How many league games without a win will it take for an outpouring of anguish from those who cannot stomach anything below last years standards? Paradoxically the greatest season ever may result in the greatest moaning season ever. Perhaps the realists should start preparing now to counter the bullsh!t that is on its way. I still think Saints are capable of a good run in the domestic cups, this is a realistic aim in my opinion.

Is Steve Brown Qualified / Should He Go

I have just stumbled across this. Am I dreaming? St. Johnstone have just won the Scottish Cup under the tutelage of Steve Brown. The club's first silverware in 130 years. Yes sure there may be marketing and administrative errors that need ironing out but the words that come to my lips are, "Thank you Mr. Brown" John

Taking 800 odd to this game is pretty fantastic when you think about it. We are unlikely to take that many to any away game other than Tannadice or Dens over the whole season. Looks a cracking place, really looking forward to it, will take another Fraser Wright screamer and a one nil win.

Absolutely - it worked for me - I can only vouch for the #50 bus (Basel airport - Basel train station) but on registering at our Basel hotel we were given free bus passes for every day that we are there - I think all the hotels may do it. Another tip (this unfortunately will cost you money) if you are going to charge anything up eg your phone - you will need a special adaptor - the Swiss plug is of a type I have never seen before on my travels and none of my Euro adapters worked - you can get one at the Swiss Co-op which is like well, our Co-op :-) which converts their odd 3 pin to a standard Euro 2 pin - 3.75CHF - obviously you need a UK to Euro adaptor as well.

Is Steve Brown Qualified / Should He Go

Thanks for that, I appreciate it... but after seeing this I feel the need to distance myself from a lot of what you're saying as I don't actually agree with it. Many of the negative points you point out are completely valid and I think it's totally to be expected that we discuss them on here - but you're coming across a lot like you have some sort of personal beef with the chairman, and your overall conclusion that he should step down is not something I agree with at all. I'm completely on board with the need for improvement within the club, but I want to see that happen under the current board and, most importantly, under the reign of the Brown family. They have run the club brilliantly and it is thanks to them that we are where we are today. If Steve Brown steps down, what do you propose as the next move for the club? The club would still be owned by his father. Would you have him sell it? And to who? I just don't think that what you're suggesting is coming from a reasonable or realistic position. We could be much, much worse off so perhaps you need to be careful what you wish for.

Keeping May for another year should hopefully mean that we, at least, manage a mid-table finish this season (if not better), then if we sell him at end of season, TW can invest in the squad for the following year Maybe the club do have a 3 year business plan Year 1 - Squad good enough to maintain SPFL status - blood youngsters - keep May and TW - invest in infrastructure Year 2 - sell May - give cash to TW to invest in squad (bit of a refresh - some old legs by then) - some residual infra structure costs - another solid SPFL performance Year 3 - win League, League Cup, Scottish Cup and Europa League titles Year 7 - sort out OS
