  1. I'd imagine it's after you ignoring the various good points made by Mainstand to have a dig at his grammar/spelling. Why anyone would expect any better of you is beyond me! Since you started this thread you've taken every possible opportunity to rile against the board and anyone who makes a point that doesn't fit in your Steve Brown=bad paradigm. On a personal level, do you not think you should take a step back and reflect on the amour of bile you're spewing and look at where it comes from? Do you genuinely feel all this negativity or is there some under lying cause? Do you know Steve Brown? Was he mean to you in a previous life? Are you challenging the patriarchal/nepotistic society that we live in, by challenging one family business at a time? Some on here have said they agree with many of the points you have made, and there really won't be anyone on here that doesn't think the club can't be better run in some way, but your dislike for the situation seems to be so much more personal than others. I (and many others) see this period as the club restructuring towards a different business model. A business model that has proved successful elsewhere (United for a very recent obvious example). It's been said by others but "all Scottish football clubs are selling clubs", when was the last time saints sold a player for money? Momo Sylla? Unless I've missed news and May has gone overnight? If there has really been a down turn in the non football income as has been reported, then the club needs to make more money from football income while also reducing costs. One of the main costs that saints has is the renting of the University of Stirling facilities, the club has had a windfall and has decided to reinvest this money into the infrastructure and the youth team. In football you can create new assets with good training/coaching and youth development. The amount of money that a "Goodwillie" or similar calibre of player would have been on would be comparable to what? Maybe 5-7 youth players? One of whom could go on to be the next Stevie May, Callum Davidson or Ally McCoist and bring serious money into the club. Players like Goodwillie(or similar) aren't necessarily going to bring in much money in future. Even if they do the club would have 1-2 major assets, where as investment in the youth facilities creates far from limited possibilities. As the ancient Chinese proverb says: "Give a football club an experienced slightly tainted talented footballer and they'll maybe get rewards for a season or two; but give a football club a well funded youth set up and training facility and they can create their own slightly tainted talented footballers for life". I've said elsewhere that I agree the club could market it's self much better, although for non fans saints have been seen as being quite active on social media and traditional meet and greet style events this summer, taking the cup to various fetes and Perth Show etc. The club is never going to give enough information to sate the desires of the hardcore or the football nerds (like me that would love to see an FM style spreadsheet with breakdown of every cost, contract etc), but they could be more PR friendly, a weekly or fortnightly memo to the press or even just an update on the official site would maybe even be enough, but during pre season this would possibly be really dry anyway. I also agree that May and TW should have been signed up on better contracts by now but there seems to have been plenty of personal issues that have got in the way over the last few weeks/months and the club deserve some slack on this issue.

    Stevie May

Selling May to anybody under £M1 will show a complete lack of ambition. I don't mean ambition for the team, rather the ability to make serious money. Going to Rotherham now will be particularly short sighted, both for May and the club. I fully understand the need for financial stability and applaud that, but the chairman needs to employ a bit of cunning and forward thinking. I know that Brown Senior has said that he will not interfere with Brown Junior, but perhaps this is the time for some wise words. I also fully understand that the Chairman job is to make tough decisions and not to try to win a popularity contest, but selling the club short for a quick buck is not the way to go. Many die-hard supporters who understand the need for good finances will be mighty p!ssed off and rightly so. So SB, you risk losing the goodwill and support of many core supporters with the wrong decision, and all the goodwill brought about by Brown family over many years could easily vanish. Balls this one up, and you are in big doo-doos.

  5. The threats were/are unnacceptable. I very much have a gut instinct though, that if Andy5565 had ended up in Perth, there is more likeliness he would have bought Kojak a pint rather than slapping his baldy heid As previous, there is no real crticism to the mods (especially Jamie) who have a tough job of protecting the majority and definately were put in a position to make a tough decision. The mod "Kyle" who said he banned Andy "because he can do what he wants to" - well what a man you are. Bravo ! An apology by Andy5565 and a promise of continuous good behaviour might be considered if people actually believe this site is more than a "football forum" and has a soul. Empathy is a good quality in people and a quality that the vast majority of posters that are on WAP have I'm sure. Please consider this.

  6. yeah its not the 1990s.... all the daft money has gone from England I mean in 2014 its not like Dundee Utd - the team we beat in the cup final and basically matched in the league last year are selling Gauld for £3m with a 60m euro buy out clause... Or look at Robertson , 4 times they turned down offers from Hull and eventually they sold him for £3 million after Hull came back a 5th time... Dundee Utd had to do some serious work to avoid the banks forcing a sale the previous January to Everton for £700k. The difference here is they had their players signed up and said NO till the offer was too good to say no to. We appear to be begging for a team to come in and offer £800k when we should be signing up May and selling him in a year or 18 months when an offer comes in which is too good for the club and/or May to refuse. But nah you would never get an offer of 7 figures for May from a championship club when championship clubs are trading in players like Ross McCormack for £11m eh...... When Celtic are selling Watt ( 18 goals since 2010 ) for £1.2m .... Nah May is not worth 7 figures .... the price of a small apartment in London ffs !!

May seems a genuinely cracking lad. If Saints are offering May a sh1t deal i would rather he bangs in another 25+ goals and goes to a top English Championship team like a Wigan or Derby etc and Saints only get a development fee than we try and push him out the door to Rotherham ( who after Blackpool are the bookies favourites to get relegated ). that will be our own fault for not signing him up. why can they not see that giving him the best deal a Saints player has ever had will pay dividends when we a) get to keep him and b ) when the day comes in 6/12/18 etc months we sell him for far more $$$$ . Mind you with SB 'no you cant sign anyone' strategy i am not sure who's gonna provide the balls thru to May for goals when injuries strike! I'd be wondering if this team will provide the 27 goals like last years.....Then the fact neither SM or TW are signed up tells me the problem is with Saints... After the cup final I heard TW was selling his house in Ballyclare to move over permanently and now 3 months later no contract is signed??? why not budget to go debt a LITTLE this season as its likely things will improve as Gers , Hibs , Hearts come back up over the next couple of seasons. Saints do not have to balance the books every season just over the course of time keep things balanced... +200k - 300k + 100k -150k +150k = balanced books hey maybe they might even sack Cockwomble and find some league and cup sponsors !!! And who knows with May you might of got more cup runs or god forbid had you let him play on Thursday the Europa league stages and 1m+ from that !!!

  12. Saints wanted Stevie to extend his contract. Stevie wanted to sign on for another year. Stevies agent entered negotiations and asked for more money. SBrown has dug his heels in and said no to the agents demands. SB has offered a contract extension but on almost identical terms to his current deal. Stevie has said no as TW has said in the press SM has refused to sign his contract extension. I am convinced SM was not being greedy but SB played hardball. Stevies agent will be on between 5 and 10 % of the transfer fee. The agent stands to make a lot of money when Stevie goes. I believe he was and still is happy to stay but his agent will be pushing for a big pay day. It is difficult to criticise SB as none of us know exactly what is going on in what will be an ongoing discussion. SB going live on the official site was purely to see if anyone elsr is interested. All we can do is wait and see what happens. If SB gets the money he wants Stevie will be on his way. He is a young lad who has played a big part in a great team who have given us our best ever season ever. SB will be doing what he thinks is best for saints but I think he has failed miserably in not getting the contract extension agreed. SB needs to do a lot more to keep the support on side as his current PR skills are sadly lacking. I would love to see Stevie hear for another year but I suspect that will not happen.

Of course we can play hardball....we have a player who allegedly wants to stay with us......he is in contract...we are still in Europe....surely we are in the driving seat on this? Why settle for under a million? I'll be well pissed off if he goes but mega pissed off if he goes to bloody Rotherham.

  14. What bothers me is the club could come across so much better if handled slightly better . Take the May situation , we have made a profit in the last year , have plenty money in the bank yet we are coming across as being skint , thus effecting what people think we would take for May . It looks from outside looking in that Stevie Brown isn't clever or in fact a half decent businessman . I do know people who work at Saints who say all is not well (not playing staff) but they still work there and haven't left so it can't be that bad . Good/bad PR can make or lose you money , seems Saints want to lose money . Some of BBDs points are valid but then he would just go over the score making himself look like that mad bunny boiler ex we've all had .

It's not as if we have cash flow problems and need the money urgently, an extension and another great season, which I'm convinced he'd have, and we'd get double that. Short sighted in the extreme.

Imagine being 18 years old, with a rare bird at home, everything in front of you. And then you have to climb out of a rat-infested trench and get machine-gunned to death because some blokes in suits had an argument. These pieces of lead usually hit at stomach or thigh level. With no hope of medical support, you bled to death, or died in agony from infection in a hospital. And still it goes on. 11pm. Turn the lights off.

guys like stevie may really dont come along often for a team like saints. an amazing young striker with huge potential who IS A SAINTS FAN. why are w a) trying to sell him after one season playing for us b ) trying to sell him below what he is worth. sign him up on a long contract and build a team around him. all we had to do was add a couple of players to what we had last season ffs. don't sell him until we get an offer we and he cant refuse (eg top championship club for 2 million if he has another 25+ season) instead of begging rotherham to come up 800k to take him off our hands i get the feeling SB thought the bids would be rolling in for May and now he's praying Rotherham can come up with the 800k or that all this paper talk alerts another club to make a move when the obvious answer is to tie May up for another season or two...

  39. I'm genuinely sorry the sincerity of your post was lost on me. However to be fair this was probably down to the fact so many of your posts on this thread and others have been very negative and often come across as defensive/aggressive to those that don't agree with you. I do also find it hard to believe I was the only one that read your post as sarcastic, but I'm sorry that I've made that mistake. Is it ok if I don't read the whole thread again, the once was enough for me. Do you want us all to post to confirm when we've read it so that you can authorise when we're allowed to post "stories". There's really no need to be condescending, having said that, if we're going down that route I think you mean "essays" rather than "stories", darling. :-* I was merely trying to join in the discourse on a subject that seems to have caused much debate around the club. A club I hold very dear to my heart and feel very positive about the changes that are being made and want to show my support for this. Im sorry if my post was too long for you, or I put too much thought into it but I don't doubt that a bit of extra thought into a few other posts round here wouldn't go a miss.

I see the development fee that people are talking about, but that will only be if he stays in Scotland, and this fee we would be lucky to get £100,000 ( I think we paid £35,000 for Liam Craig) if he was to go down south then we would not get anything, Simple solution is sign him up on a 3 year deal, pay him big bucks this year and then look to sell next summer for double what we would get now

Andy has had a pretty torrid time in his personal life recently and, whilst we cant condone threats, let's hope he's not lost to us on here. After all, we are Perth.

  43. Scott1884 – In answer to your question “would Scott Brown be in the 1st team if Muzz was available” then yes I believe he would. My reason/s for this is due to the fact St Johnstone began negotiations in December 2012 with several players regarding contract extensions. In December 2012 Murray Davidson was offered a 2 year deal, but refused this as his intention was to seek a career move to an English club and Liam Craig had also advised that he would not renew his contract at the end of the season, preferring to sign a pre-contract with Hibs (We all know how that one ended out!). Murray Davidson’s contract took him through until the end of season 2012-13 and in July 2013 he left Saints following our 2 nil victory over Motherwell which secured our Europa League place. Saints were in contact with Bradford City with a view to signing Scott Brown in July 2013 and were clearly intent on securing younger players and possibly on less expensive contracts than Murray Davidson’s, however they did leave the door open for Murray to return if he was not successful in seeking a move to English football. Scott Brown signed for Saints in August 2013 on a permanent deal at the age of 18, clearly for future potential. His current contract extends past Murray Davidson's so It is now up to Murray Davidson to claim his place, once he returns to full fitness! You stated Doris although scoring against Celtic had failed at Dundee.....didn’t really know the player, but if he signed for Dundee perhaps that was the problem! Regarding Liam Caddis – He has been on loan in previous seasons to Arbroath, Cowdenbeath and Alloa making over 30 appearances and has featured in over a dozen 1st team games for Saints already. At 20 years old he is certainly ready for his chance to cement his starting place ahead of our older players and I would much prefer him to play ahead of a few of our current midfielders. Tommy has shown that he intends promoting him to 1st team this season, having played him in our Europa League fixtures. Chris Kane - I agree still has to prove he can be as prolific a scorer as Stevie May at 1st team level. Having been on loan last season to Dumbarton, Kane’s scoring was comparable to May’s and at 19 he has also been introduced to our squad at an early age. Tommy may have wanted to loan him out for another season, but clearly he believes Kane could achieve exactly what May has following his introduction in our Europa League fixtures last season! I bet no-one believed May would do so well so soon! Following Steve Brown’s rallying call last pre-season and again following our Scottish Cup win. It is clear that the idea is to reduce expense, (younger players, cheaper contracts) whilst increasing revenue (more season tickets, advertising revenue and merchandise sales) If proof is needed that we are not going to sign anyone soon, then this is it!...the introduction of these players to our 1st team cannot come quick enough for me! Considering their ages if they’re good enough then they’re old enough.

Great post. We need to remember all 9 milliion (!!!) that died. I will in particular be remembering Johnny Cameron, my pal Steve's grandfather's brother.
