  1. Well if you see the "designated smoke zone" where i work then you would change your mind. Its a sh*t hole. Fags all over the ground, packets just chucked on the ground. They always end up having to pay people to come in and clean it up because the smokers are incapable of using bins.

    Yes Or Naw?

Right, I’ll get the blunderbuss out and hit a few topics at once. Europe: We never had a referendum to join/ratify the formation of the EU – we weren’t allowed one (1993). We had a referendum in 1975 to join the EEC, which was a different beast compared to the EU behemoth. I’m not a fan of the EU and would happily leave it. Purely my own opinion, but EFTA is what we should have been looking at all along. Another indy ref: That is one particular option for achieving independence through the ballot box. There are other ways to skin a cat however. I personally don’t think we will go down that route, but if there is another referendum, I can see it being within the next 6 years. Religion: forget the atom bomb, religion is the most dangerous and destructive of mankind’s creations. “Religion” is just another word for “cult”. Flower of Scotland: cringeworthy before the referendum, plain embarrassing now. UKIP: The average Tory member is 72. That's why they're turning into UKIP - you become more right-wing as you get older... and more demented.

  3. Time to put this bad run behind us and put in a confident and effective performance against a Killie team that are doing well this season but who we have already beaten. I think it's fairly obvious who needs to be rested / dropped and the team that played the 2nd half against The Fakes should be starting this match. Faddy will be more integrated and barring any injuries I would hope to see the following starting 11. Mannus Miller Mackay Ando Easton Croft Millar Davidson Lappin McFadden Graham I'm sure Tommy can see this has to be the way to go and hopefully Crofty can show he has a full 90mins in him. COYS!!! Remember we should have won the last game 3-2 so be positive, our season is about to turn!!!

  5. Here's a summary why Saints can't grow: Catchment area - Perth & surrounding area - let's say a max of 60,000 available. Pricing gets mentioned. But there are now a whole host of things wanting a slice out of your wallet/purse like Mobile Phones, Online betting, Sky TV, fuels costs for car. At £20 a throw, some things have to give. Teenagers see this as too much and would spend it topping up mobiles, apps, games. Weather - a perennial in Scotland, cancellations, just too cold? Link with getting to the ground, fierce locals, parking. TV - there's about a few hundred channels now - wanting your attention. Changing habits: TV, pubs open all day, on-line gaming, shopping, older/responsibilities. "Football not for us, with all that swearing and shouting", chuck in religious bigotry as well and mummies always get their way. Move away - link with catchment - London, Sheffield, Athens, Canada, wherever! Bit controversial this - multiple marriages/divorce, absent parents, parents having to work on Saturdays, mean children don't get introduced early to football. (Can be linked also to the cost of attending matches) Lack of glamour: Everyone knows about Man U fans in Surrey etc, but it can be real as the expansion of TV mean children associate themselves with Barca, Real, Chelsea. M Ashley doesn't help with the replica shirts in his emporiums. As many are pointing out earlier in the thread, success in the cup may not translate to more punters coming in the gates.

  6. "After the Scottish Cup final we have been very pro-active in reaching out to get back some of the 15,000 fans who came along that day," says Roddy Grant, an associate director at McDiarmid Park and a former St Johnstone player. "We have all of their email addresses and phone numbers and are still actively working through that to try and encourage them to come to a future home match. "We've taken the Scottish Cup on a tour of local primary and high schools, which has been received very well." Fed up with Roddy phoning and emailing me tbh.

  7. We seem to be focusing on using the development league to play, in the majority, our youngsters. Some of the other teams have a 50/50 split between youngsters and first team squad members. Saints seemingly drew 2-2 with Dundee is a closed doors game earlier in the week. Both teams played pretty much first team in first half, but Saints then played a lot of youngsters in the second, whereas Dundee kept their strongest team on. Faddy scored

  9. The long term status of any club is related to the size of the long term support. Saints get a home crowd of somewhere around 5% or 6% of the population of Perth. This percentage is pretty good compared to many clubs. To make any significant difference to the long term finances, this would have to double. I don't see getting a 5000 gate week-in week-out as being realistic in the current financial climate. The only way to top up the bank account is to get to cup finals, get on television, bring on youth players and sell them for as much as the club can get, or develop other profit making businesses such as catering, hotels etc with the profits pumped into the club. I am not suggesting that other measures suggested so far are a waste of time - every additional body through the turnstiles is good, getting supporters when they are young is great, but as far as I can see, this is a small club in the general scheme of things, and it can't grow much without risking long term stability. Financial stablity has been a great success due to the Browns. However I absolutley agree with the comments made about the club wasting a fantastic opportunity of cashing in on the cup success. As far as that is concerned - epic failure.

  10. Meeting update Main topic of discussion was the away day to Dundee, 14 booked so there are still 3 places for those swithering. I will put out an email this week to all who are intending to travel, but we will be leaving Inverness about 10.15 , with a pick up in Dalwhinnie for Davey & Innes hopefully 11.15 ish That will give enough time to grab something to eat/ drink in Dundee. Kenny will be driving, but we will be looking for another volunteer, so don't be shy. Our next meeting will be 1st December, at 7.30 at Brewers Fayre, Inshes, Inverness, this will be a chance to elect a new chairman as that's me done my yearly stint and it was one I will never forget. But it takes everybody to make the group a success and we have proved we are up there with the best of them.
