  1. Tunisian striker Hadja Ollon signing before the end of the week?

  2. How how do you know it wasn't top of his list? Maybe his top target wasn't available early on and he was prepared to wait? He's replaced Swanson and brought in much needed pace, so has actually improved us from last season, a season which we finished 4th with the strikers available. Im not saying we don't need a new striker, we clearly do, but I fail to see how any saints fan could be disappointed by the way this transfer is going.

  4. So Tommy got his two top targets he identified right at the start of the summer in Scougall and MOH. Nice job Mr Brown!

  5. Was anyone else halfway through googling "Hadja Ollon" before they realised?

  6. Jeanfield game was a good result, coming from 3-1 down, (mainly due to a couple of defensive errors which were duly punished) to win 5-3, with some great passing and movement. Good workout, just what they needed against bigger and stronger opponents. Missed a few more, tho' to be fair Jeanie keeper made a few blocks when faced with 'a one on one'. Good luck in the coming season and look forward to watching their progress. One to watch out for is Alistair McCann, tho' Cameron Ballantyne took the eye yesterday.

  7. I'd have liked somebody we don't already play four times a season.

  9. Nah, I won't claim to have known anything. I'll just be happy that the deal has gone through and it's finally out in the open. I like your style though, bankfoot saint. You're determined. I admire that. But as I say, I need £1000. Seriously. I'm gonna be honest with you. I'm Steve Brown. I need £1000 or this signing won't happen.

  10. And how will you reach the ATM to withdraw it?

  11. I'm not convinced we don't have the strikers. Last season we struggled for any decent delivery in the box. Wotherspoon was off the boil, Alston was adjusting and Swanson didn't actually create many clear chances. MacLean is a proper poacher, his goals per shot stat is incredible. Cummins was incredible last time MOH was here, and whilst he's been missing sitter after sitter, he's still getting into positions to miss them, it goes that way with strikers, but if they keep getting there, eventually they'll get their reward. Kanes the only one I worry about, but at Dumbarton he seemed to play more in the box, getting onto rebounds/crosses, if he understands that the midfield will do the work, and he simply needs to be there at the end, he could still come good. I'd still like another forward, like Storey, who provides a different option to keep things fresh, but I'm not hugely worried that our strikers aren't good enough yet, if they likes of MOH, Scougall, Wotherspoon and Alston can create multiple chances a match, and they still struggle to get goals, then id be more worried.

  12. So basically your going to wait till we sign someone then say I knew it all along

  13. You were looking for a similar level of opposition. You probably should give them a couple of goals start, though.

    Tommy for Rangers

I'd be much more worried about losing Tommy if the Sevco job came up again. Don't see him as the right match for Hearts - not unless they get rid of Levein too. I just hope that both Hearts and Sevco keep faith with their current managers for as long as possible, as failure for those two will turn this season into a massive opportunity for Saints.

  17. Just to keep this on-topic, the Sevco stuff that was previously in here has been moved into the Ibrox thread in Fitba chat:

Check out the likes of vipbox.nu when SJFC are playing. It is not just about BT and Sky channels. Some clubs have their own TV and no doubt someone will stream the game, Aberdeen for instance. That said if you are looking for home games then you will be limited to the BT/Sky games.

  19. Ayr haven't been helped but being at home would be a start for them. I like seeding for the League Cup, it just needs tweaked a bit to add home advantage IMO. Last season we were punished for the draw at Brechin. Those four seeded spots make the groups even more interesting. Without seeding, you will inevitably end up with more meaningless group games and that doesn't help the competition.

  20. I don't think our wage bill will be too much higher than this time last year. From the wage bill at the start of last season we've removed Dave Mackay, Brad McKay, Tam Scobbie, Michael Coulson, Joe Gormley and Danny Swanson. We've added Richard Foster, Scott Tanser, Stefan Scougall and Michael O'Halloran on loan. Have I missed anyone else? Pure guesswork, but D Mackay and Foster cancel each other out, B McKay and Scobbie would cost more than Tanser; and Coulson, Swanson and Gormley would cost at least as much as O'Halloran and Scougall. Add to that we're trying to move Watson on. It just seems that we've moved a few fringe players on (Dave Mac and Swanson apart) and brought in first team players. Only Tanser out of the players signed in the last year would be considered a 'fringe' player. And if we do bring in another 'jewel' up front, then going by what the manager and others have said, it sounds like he's likely to be another starter. A good summer's business already, a quality striker would be the icing on the cake.

  21. Delighted to get Scougall and O'Halloran in. Two players of proven quality. If you'd told me we'd sign these two before the window I'd have been well pleased. In Tommy we trust.

  22. I feel sorry for him too. I think ultimately it's been too big a job too early for him. I suspect he has all the coaching ability needed, but not the man management..... yet. That's the kind of thing you can only learn on the job and much easier to mistakes at smaller clubs away from the spotlight. He's not great with the media and maybe not having to have done interviews etc as a player plays a part here. What money on him leaving Hearts and being a big succcess abroad in a few years.

  25. Stating the obvious that it would have been preferable to sign him earlier .....BUT ...it takes two to tango and clearly Rangers were unwilling to release him for whatever reason...perhaps this was down to how much we were prepared to subsides his wages...perhaps other clubs were in the mix....perhaps Rangers were waiting for a bus load of Mexcans to arrive....who knows. Bottom line is that we have persevered and struck a deal... just be pleased that it's happened now. Let's just hope he comes out of the blocks fast and helps us retain our rightful place at the top end of Scottish footie!

  26. TW's post game interview: "We tried to get him in January, and it couldn't happen, and we tried to get him at the end of the season. We've persevered and kept going back to Rangers to try and get something done" Sounds like it was out of our hands

  27. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselrink was easily the biggest name to play against Saints.
