    Taxi for Tommy?

I'm going to do something very dangerous and mention politics. The argument from those negotiating Brexit is they need to have no deal on the table to get a (good) deal. Equally, I don't think it helps us to talk about TW having a free hit effectively. He should feel under a bit of pressure. He has taken the conscious choice to shake up this squad so will have to live or die by that decision. Where we are now isn't a result of bad fortune that the manager has earned the right to remedy, he has put us in this position. We've had bad runs in the past and the club (absolutely correctly) haven't wavered in their support of him. This feels different though. What isn't acceptable is the language used at times. Whatever happens with TW, the respect for him should never diminish. And as for those that actively seem to be willing him to fail? What a miserable existence.

  3. Paper talk. How many goals has May scored since he left Saints ?. Anyone thinking he is the answer to our problems are living in hope. If he can't score for teams that create chances then I don't know how he ,or anyone is going to score 10 for us. 10 Tommy's new target as I think he realises 15 not realistic.

    Taxi for Tommy?

Folk who try and suggest the only thing TW has ever done for us is win a cup clearly have some bizarre agenda to try and force him out. Im too young to know Ormonds side, but, TW must be right up there in terms of the greatest ever. Hes won a cup, qualified us for Europe more times alone than in the rest of our history combined, and is guiding us through the most consistently successful top flight spell we've ever had. He deserves a chance to right any wrongs he makes.

  9. Tommy is a great manager, has his ups and downs, but far more ups. My view is 80% of our (any SPL) success is down to money, not the manager, such is the sorry state of this league. To compete, you need big-big investment, the Broons don't have or won't put in, and we don't generate cash. So this title should read Taxi for Broons if anything, and even thats a stretch, because who else would invest. One unpopular (?) opinion is that we would all be far happier in a lower division, we would be able to compete, be entertained and probably get better gates. Outside of the cup win, my fondest saints memories were the three seasons from 1980-83. SPFL in its current state is fukking pointless and has been for years. Tommy isn;t the issue.

  10. No matter how big a gulf there is between Celtic and Saints losing 7-0 is not acceptable. Tommy has had many chances to create and test a system to contain teams yet if anything we're getting worse. He seems to think sticking 11 men behind the ball is enough. To stay in the game against teams like Celtic you need to press, hassle and win the ball back. You need to get the team up the pitch and give the defenders a rest. You need to have an outball. Losing by anything more than 3 or 4 is piss poor at our level. He's done a great job reducing the age of the team but he's ripped the heart and desire to win out of it. This is a team of heartless cowards now. When was the last time we won a game from behind?

  11. Imagine expecting us not to record our heaviest ever defeat to Celtic. What a bunch of dreamers... Yesterday was unacceptable. Nobody should be defending it, excusing it or brushing it off. And it wasn't even a one-off, they did the same to us less than a year ago. Obviously a lot of lessons picked up from that mauling...

  12. I'd rather go for a striker on the up not on the way down.Would have been happier with a Shankland or Meggison type.Strikers that have a scoring track record and not ones that have forgotten where the back of the net is.

  14. The player will have a contract with the agent, drawn-up in accordance with some pretty strict FIFA guidelines. I don’t think a player could easily do that. I thought the point about Vine was that he isn’t an agent, just “a friend helping out”, so possibly not covered by the rules (although a court might take a different view of that).

  15. Not if the representative isn't actually an agent. Hypothetically speaking, if the representative overplayed his hand with a couple of clubs and now has a bad reputation amongst players, clubs and other agents, has he blown his chance? If so, would he still try and scupper any deal or play ball to try and redeem his reputation? As an aside, if May did sign (still doubtful he will), could he still get the 17 shirt if O'Halleron has worn it in a league game?

  16. I think hes now scored more for United than he did for Ayr in that period. John Sutton has scored more for Morton this season than he managed in a season with us. Footballs weird. Players just fit sometimes, so writing off May based on his career at Aberdeen seems rash.

    Taxi for Tommy?

Tommy took over in 2013/14 and won the cup with Lomas's squad with the addition of O'Halloran, Clancy, Iwelumo and Dunne(loan) and did well. Could Tommy's problem be that he struggles to replace important players as the move on or retire. This could be down to lack of scouting and or money. Strikers and midfield in particular. At this moment in time, I will give Tommy until the end of the season, he deserves that at least. Only then will I comment on his future.

  20. The point being made is, in effect, that we are Celtic’s Forfar/Montrose. So getting thumped is not too bad. Fair enough. But the point surely is that, whilst Celtic thumped their Forfar/Montrose, we got beat by both of ours, and THAT’S the worry. That Championship is an utter barstard to get out of, we all remember that.

  21. Anyone else thinking that the large amounts of cash required to bring Stevie May back might be better channelled across three maybe four signings? May would have made zero difference yesterday as we are lacking quality in several areas of the team.

  23. I just don't want to hear any sort of justification of a 7-0 defeat. I disagree that Celtic would have handed out a similar beating to several other clubs. Of course they played well but we were atrocious and that should be pointed out. In fact, I think all the players that started disgraced themselves and should be embarrassed this morning. Not once, not twice but three times we let Christie have a free pop at goal and Griffiths' strike was the same. That is criminal. We didn't lay a glove on them unless it was a sly kick or elbow. We stood off them all day. So, so poor and folk should be venting their anger.

    Taxi for Tommy?

Very fair point and that is a whole new argument, a discussion I was having on the way home yesterday. Can anyone come up with a single name that would justify us sacking our most successful ever manager? Other than Barry Ferguson, obviously.

  25. Over the past three seasons Celtic have scored 5 goals in a game 19 times. Once they're going, they're going, and its almost impossible to stop. When you're going there with a weak defence, confidence sapped squad, no out ball, and your manager has set you up so the full backs are exposed and the centre of midfield is outnumbered, then thats just a perfect combination for a result like this. I'm trying not to defend/excuse anything as its an embarrassing scoreline, but I'll be far more worried/annoyed if we, say, lose 3-0 at home to Livingston next week then I am losing 7-0 away to Celtic.

  26. Hi, I was at a wedding surrounding by Celtic fans all day, and night, yesterday. I suspect those who only had to suffer the 90 minute match had a better time than me. In terms of only transfer money, Celtics 11 yesterday cost a reported £20.4m. Their bench cost £9.8m. I think our only cash signing is Murray Davidson, as part of a two player deal that hit £50k. Celtics wage bill last season was apparently £59m. Folk are ****ing dreaming if they're expecting us to be competing with Celtic every single time we play them. If they turn up and are on fire, and we're in a bad place confidence wise and squad wise, then we're ****ed. TW setting the team up and exposing the midfield just made it even worse.

  30. Boring, I couldn't care less if youngsters deemed not good enough got punted. So what Saints got beat 7-0 by a side with 50 times our budget, levels, it happens. It won't stop me supporting them.

  31. Thinking positively, TW was quite coy about the Stevie May situation today. Jonathan Sutherland: ''Will Stevie May be back in Perth this summer?'' TW: ''“I think he is in Perth most Saturday nights, goes for a meal and a few drinks so I would imagine he’ll be in Perth at some point tonight.'' Jonathan Sutherland: ''You know what I mean though?'' TW: ''Well, I don't.'' Jonathan Sutherland: ''Signing for St. Johnstone?'' TW: ''Well, you should have asked that in the first place. I don't know. I actually don't know. Listen, I'm just having a bit of fun with you.''
