I think it depends what you mean by 'prudently'. Clearly, we're not bankrupt.
But in all honestly not going bust is a fairly basic objective when you have an operating model where the main cost base is headcount. The fixed cost base is low, variable costs high. That's not quite the same as, oh I don't knew, a construction business.
To me the attitude to risk is an issue (too prudent), the capital structure is an issue (full ownership of the asset by one individual), and the overall strategy is an issue (you can't cut your way into growth, as has been proved countless times, and there seems to be no investment in innovation or product marketing).
I think as someone said here or elsewhere he's doing an OK job of running 'the business', but you'd have to be almost wilfully incompetent not to be and like so many small business owners I've come across I suspect he mistakes cost control for good management. However on the question of if he's doing a good job of running the football club I've voted no on the basis that for me, that question is about growth.
It's got the feel of a managed decline, baseline investment with a view to protecting the asset for sale.

Lucky enough to have been in the Royal tonight, plenty of saintees  there that I have known for years and all  totally disoriented with Brown's leadership (or in reality lack of leadership).
Fan ownership is so far away and more chance of a Tayside Derby on the moon than Brown finding a investor or buyer.
Bless Tommy Wright what a leader, as for Brown, I would probably be banned from the forum if I posted how bad I feel about his Chairmanship.
It hurts to be in this situation and the only person that can fix it does not communicate with the support.
Mr Brown, PR is not difficult you must improve dramatically or our fan base will continue to diminish until you get this right or walk away.
There is still some goodwill there with some fans but you have lost respect from many and it is getting worse and worse.
There are many of us who have given a lifetime of dedication support and love for SJFC, get if sorted and become a leader.

I would probably go to a Jeanfield home game if there was no Saints game on.
Went to Liverpool vs Napoli last week.
But when there's a Saints game on I agree. That's unforgivable.

    This thread is an embarrassment.
Let's see how things progress once our signings have been made.

I like how you say 'on a more sane level', before describing a scenario which is far more unlikely. Thanks for that.

I’ve read this opinion many, many times, but it completely misses out a very relevant point - we’ve finished fourth three times since, and never been in any danger of relegation, whilst completely rebuilding the squad to a younger, more athletic group, which everyone was crying out for.
‘The cup win was five years ago,’ suggests we’ve been pish since. We’ve qualified for Europe a further twice since then, the same amount of times we qualified in the 127 years before Tommy Wright came to Perth.

Christ. Let's ditch one of the most successful, peer respected managers in the game on the back of meaningless results and bring an unproven guy universally derided as being thick as mince and a bigot to boot.
    Could not make it up.
All that said, we should have done much better on the hiring front this pre-season. That's not to say (a) that's Tommy's fault or that (b) we won't pull it out the hat.

Our problems going into this game were the lack of at least one goalscoring striker and a fit, solid centre back pairing.
Nomattter what happened, our problems coming out of this game were always going to be the lack of at least one goalscoring striker, and having a fit, solid centre back pairing that have enough competitive game time.
The result of this match is entirely irrelevant. All that matters is time in legs, avoiding injury on a plastic pitch, the big man getting game time with Kerr and if TW learns more about the team then that's a bonus.

I'd be OK with that. In many ways it's a repeat of the Tony Watt situation. I've felt that we've missed his hold up play and quality on the ball this season but he wasn't scoring, so had to go. Kane has a lot of good qualities and I've just re-watched the first half from yesterday again and my view is that if he can be re-purposed to sit behind the strikers with less pressure on him as lone frontman, he'll do better.
We play too much long ball for him. He's not strong enough in the air or at holding up/holding off centre backs for that role, never mind his lack of finishing ability.

Major error by the club to only open the main stand today, denying the fans the view of the new dugout that we'd all turned out to see.
Mind you we'll get to see them on the telly.

I asked the girls in the ticket office. They reckoned lower than last year but to be fair I don't think they really know.
If we really are up between 15-25%, I do wonder why. Other than the good run pre-Christmas last season was fairly meh, no marquee (or anything close) signings over the summer, no marketing campaigns. It would be odd.
Edit - it's probably the new dugouts that's bringing them in.

Using paper forms is a big part of this problem. It's the worst possible way to collect data if you want it to be accurate.
On-line forms next year should help but given that someone will have to punch the data into a system at some point in the process I'm struggling to understand why the club still use paper for this.
Looking forward to the day when we can renew with one tap on a phone, pay with paypal, and use the phone as a ticket.
