  1. Said it quite a few times but he has scored some vital goals over the past couple of seasons.
  2. Doesnt sound much like the club is going to be sold unless they expect some offers off the back of the announcement.
  3. It's currently got a big sign up on the back that says GS Brown Construction Stand. Although I think that may have been to get around having that big GS Brown sign up. Agree though, it seems appropriate they have a stand named after the family that have done so much for the club.

Great to see Spoony play in the world cup. What a memory that will be for him. Another fantastic memory for Saints fans as well. Thought BBC could have done a bit of research and gave him a better introduction. A number of clubs including Dundee got a mention when Jason Cummings came on for Australia in their first match I think it was. Thought we might have got Scottish born, plays his club football at St johnstone etc...
  5. Under 18s game was decent. Saints look like they have a good under 18s side, lots of really good players.
  6. Agree most clubs seems to do it so not unusual in that respect but I'm not always sure it suits Saints style of play. Watering pre match is tactics these days apparently so it speeds up the surface which favours an attacking team. Less watering required if you are going to be defending. I read that clubs sometimes only water one side at half time once they know which goal they are going to be shooting towards. Have to admit it does slightly irritate me when you see several players fall on their backsides not long after kick off.

I was very impressed by Canada. The athleticism and the pressing was superb, didn't look like Belgium could cope. Didn't deserve to lose and it was just that final product that was missing. Was crying out for a Spoony chop on the edge of the box. I was waiting to hear his intro by the commentators.

Will Spoony get some game time tomorrow night against Belgium? Let's hope so. Tough game and tough group.
  9. Most pitches go through good and bad spells, its just what happens. It's expensive and difficult to maintain a grass pitch and with Scottish weather and winter schedule you can definitely see why some clubs opt for fully artificial.
  10. Agree, giving the women's team the opportunity to play at McDiarmid is definitely a good thing. According to the website, its their first competitive game at the ground. The hope seems to be that they will get a bigger crowd and a good experience for the team. I might go along myself. Definitely don't think the pitch would have fared well had it been last weekend after all of the rain. Anyway the point I was making was that this period before the worst of winter comes should see the pitch recover a bit, a chance that it would never normally get which has got to be a good thing. Was trying to think about the work that was done about 7 or 8 years ago at McDiarmid and a quick search seems to suggest we had some sort of fibre reinforced surface put in then which then gets the top shaved off and over-seeded, technically making McDiarmid some sort of hybrid pitch. It could well have changed again in recent years. Like everything else it maybe only last so long. Anyone know? A few articles I'd read suggested that only Rangers, Celtic, Hearts and now Motherwell are the only clubs in the top flight to have a hybrid pitch but perhaps that's just a specific type with the systems/ technology always changing and improving.
  11. To be honest I didn't even know they play on it. It would have been the perfect opportunity for the surface to get a rest which it wouldn't normally get at this time of the year.
  12. It's a good job McDiarmid is getting a bit of a rest now. It was cutting up quite badly against Motherwell. Then you get a couple of days like we have at the moment with non stop rain. It would have been a mess this weekend.
  13. Read somewhere recently along the lines that CD didn't want youngsters held back by sitting on the bench never getting a game with players ahead of them. Can't really argue with getting in experienced players to steady the ship this season. Think the Summer signings have all been good.

    Spoony

Fantastic news for both him and the club. Money aside it's a massive honour to be at a World Cup. Probably every kids footballing dream. Not had much game time since return from injury so I was quite surprised at his selection but I think we all saw on Saturday what a little bit of game changing magic he can bring. We know what team we're following now in this house. Shame he didn't make it to the Panini sticker album.
  15. Think losing the goal we did was probably the most disappointing thing. Didnt really feel Motherwell deserved it as they rarely looked dangerous in that first half. I was surprised they finished with 11 players as they were kicking lumps out of Saints and had 3 on yellows going into the 2nd half. Saints lost their way a bit in the second half and seemed to run out of ideas. Thought Motherwell improved a bit but not enough to really trouble us enough. At times some really slick play from Saints when the ball was on the ground and we looked dangerous but with no real end product. Not sure what I think of this playing out from the back, at times it's okay and better than a punt up the field but other times it was terrifying and better teams would have punished us.
  16. Good thing about this season is that we have lots of options. Decent players not even making the bench. I think a lot of players on the fringes are better than we've seen playing in some of the systems. Playing with one target man for the past few seasons has been awful and having a proper front pairing has been eye opening.
  17. I did indeed. Would have even been better if it was a Saturday 3pm, hate Sunday football.
  18. Can't see much of a change to the lineup. Thought CD came over quite well in interviews after Saturdays game, rather than over emphasizing what a great win it was he said no point in winning games like Saturdays if you can't do the same in midweek. At least we know they are looking for the win.

Very strange decision to not send Gordon off for Hearts yesterday despite already being on a yellow card but still awarding a penalty. Zander not having any luck getting a game.
  20. It was only a few weeks since Brown hit the bar with a shot from distance. This has been coming, first touch was great, finish was fantastic. Would like to see more efforts like this from players all over the park.
  21. Spoony always composed with the ball, great to see him back in the team. First half Saints were quite wasteful with the little position they got and struggled to string a few passes together. Much better second half. Some really tidy stuff on the counter and look dangerous almost every time. Daft question, if Spoony is only a possible for the Canadian World Cup team I presume he's not got a Panini sticker in the book. Anyone know?

    Matthews

Commentator said he's likely to miss out next two games. Doesnt sound too serious.
  23. As long as the manager recognises when he needs to make changes, Hallberg looked knackered last week and should have been one of the first to be replaced. Not saying we had someone better to replace him but he looked tired. Not sure if it's the position or what. Strangely an adult ticket for this game is cheaper than usual. £20 rather than £24. Aberdeen probably went in over confident last week and look what happened. I suspect it will be a keep in the game for as long as possible, result won't define our season etc etc. I'd like to see us have more of a go, if its obvious its not working then resort to trying to keep the score down and stay in the game. Parking the bus from the 1st min is poor entertainment. You may as well get beat 4 or 5 nil as a 1-nil and not have a go.

Would have been a harsh red card. Yellow was fair. Not sure we saw enough on Sportscene of the foul on May to judge it but the Ref got to see it again from presumably multiple angles. If it was 2 hands pushing with force on the back it's a foul.
