highlandsaint reacted to Strawman in New poll: The Manager
I have the total fear we are heading to the play off position again the way we are going.
What seems to be the common ground at the minute is an older fan, either on here,Banter page or Pie and Bovril, coming in total support of manager and club in everything they do because they were at the 3-3 Rangers game in the 80s or the Dundee game in 60s which I just don’t get.
I m an older lad myself, started going mid to late 80s, first real success I remember was being on the pitch after beating Arbroath 4-0 and the players in main stand throwing champagne about, singing “ Ayr Ayr **** yer Ayr “ despite the fact we’d finished second to them, it was promotion from Scotlands bottom league at the time.
Right now though is the most unconnected with the club I ve ever felt. I think Callum’s a bit unlucky in that I probably don’t give him enough credit for the cup double, mainly cos I wasn’t there. Over last 30 odd years I ve probably missed less that 10 home games over that time and been at double figures away games every year too. I actually almost resent the double cup win, I ve been to Hampden so many times and still never seen us win there.
I don’t understand how anyone can be happy right now, a clueless manager who should have been gone by the time I got back to Perth after the Kelty game.
Football on the pitch that is eye watering bad, I don’t mind us getting beat but at least have a plan that you look like you have set up to try and win.
Zander must have been so low in confidence having not played in months at the Hearts game yet we gave him nothing to do early on.
A squad that is so big, biggest I can ever remember yet we have no idea our strongest team.
Then add in the Rangers cup game shitfest, even “ off the ball “ on radio where Stuart Cosgrove is normally the boards saviour was so damming of the situation. Some people may have been told the true reasons in a pub, it appears some contact was made with however they communicate with the young lads in FCU, what about just the normal fans though, we get to hear nothing.
I was briefly enjoying this season before the World Cup as we were ok to watch for a while, it’s back to the rubbish tactics of last year though and if we achieve 10th place it will be seen as success.
I hate the fact that, I live 10 mins walk from ground, will be free the night of Rangers game and can afford £30 but right now, won’t be there, will be first time ever I miss a game where I’m in the house and can hear the crowd noise. This obviously happened during Covid but no crowd. How have we managed to get to such a crappy place with how I feel about my club ?

I just don't buy into that. I agree that Kerr's presence helped him and along with McCart they'd developed into a strong unit who complimented each other's abilities. Tommy Wright did a fantastic job in putting that trio together. But if Gordon was really all that bad as an individual he'd have been found out long ago: he'd never have held onto his place in that cup-winning team and we'd never have had the defensive record we had. He'd also never have been handed the captaincy.
I think fans are way too quick to write players off at times. If we were using these players in the best possible way, fitting them into the best possible system, coaching them to be the best they can be and building their confidence with man management, I'm 100% certain you'd see completely different performances from exactly the same group of players. Good players don't just become bad players.

Nice to have a choice this week with everyone putting in a shift - a real team performance.
Gave my vote to Jamie McCart - he's taken a lot of stick from some people but his distribution was so much better on Sat plus a superb defensive performance.

    Went for Michael O'Halloran.
Thought he looked much more like the player we had previously.
Next season we will have him, Kennedy and Drey Wright giving us much needed pace - all we need now is a 15+ goal a season striker to bang them in - over to you Tommy!!

Again a really outstanding team performance but the unanimous winner in the Highland Saints car as it headed north was Matty Kennedy.

Went for Richard Foster this week.
Thought both defensively and getting forward he was excellent but Wright deserves massive credit for covering for him when he does push up.
    Great partnership forming there.

For the second game in a row, I voted for Perth's answer to Franz Beckenbauer.
Liam Gordon strolled through the game and it makes us look a decent footballing side when we have two centre backs (Jason Kerr being the other) who are comfortable on the ball and can play it forward along the deck.
Tommy has some big decisions to make when the league campaign starts.

With only one game in the highlands this season choice is a bit limited but my vote is also for Zander but for different reasons - not that I didn't enjoy his recent " match day analysis with McCann" after the final whistle.
His double save from Billy McKay secured a point for us in a match that we should have wrapped up at half time and shows we are in safe hands for next season.

This is the figure that's reported in the P&J as well and is the figure that anybody not at the game sees.
We get slaughtered for our crowds but this figure is just a blatant lie.
The crowd was less than 2,000 and I know the argument that some clubs count season ticket holders  but last nights figure must include every steward outside the ground , people passing on the way to the train station and the staff at the Mallard bar and every other bar and hotel in Dingwall.

I wonder if the compliance officer is going to have a look at the actions of the Rangers player( not interested enough in them to know his name) who rolled about in our box breakdancing and screaming as if he'd broken his leg, has a sly glance up to see that they've scored their third goal, and leaps to his feet to join in the celebrations!
How much more blatant cheating goes unpunished by them?
From start to finish the game had a toxic atmosphere to it.
First time in 40 years I've been told to take my woolly hat off and get it searched for concealed weapons! to the bully boy tactics and intimidation trying to leave Tesco car park.
And we are told we need them to make Scottish football stronger.
Why doesn't Regan, Doncaster and the rest put on a Saints/ Patrick/Ross County scarf and go to a match and actually see what the rest of Scottish football has to put up with!!

Some wonderful defensive performances yesterday to secure a point.
Why Alan Mannus is not Northern Irelands No 1 at the moment is a mystery especially as McGovern is not first choice at his club.
However my vote went to Joe who looked calm and composed throughout the onslaught. Now if only he had some distant relatives that were born in Scotland he would be everything the national team is looking for- a young centre half that's good with the ball, dominant in the air, strong in the tackle and composed - but then what's the point of looking as he plays for us and would never get capped anyway!!

Contenders were Ando for looking like Franz  Beckenbauer for 20 secs with that pass, Mikey for the finish or Paul Paton for doing the things you need to do to win a game - unfortunately these type of defensive midfield roles often go unrecognised.
However my vote is going to Joe who showed the panic merchants on this forum why TW is pursuing Jewel No 3 and not spending money on players like Storey or Sammon who are not going to improve us.

If MOTM was awarded at half time Chris Kane was a clear winner but he was starved of service second half ( no fault of his) so gone for Alan Mannus who is back at his best - seems as if having two excellent goalies is pushing them both on.

Tam got my vote, just ahead of Danny.
The boo boys love him but if he goes who is going to get it in the ear next season?
Makes the odd mistake but watch MOTD and you see  players on a hundred times Tams wage who make the same mistakes.

Paul Paton for me. Some great sliding tackles and did a power of work covering back whilst the opposition were attacking.
His long range passing is fantastic.

Watched Chris Kane at the warm up shootie - in. Hit both posts then the bar with his three shots and I thought his luck has got to change sometime.
Won the penalty then finished off a great move - cant ask anymore of your striker than that.

Okay I may be stretching it a bit but after our previous trips to Trondheim, Lucerne and Yerevan  we are bound to miss our fix of European footie.
Cristo and I are booked to go to Belfast for our game on July 9th. GMaC is  mulling it over so that's a possible 3.
    Anybody else fancy it?
We are booked on the direct flight on Sat with Flybe departing 1205 and arriving 1305, returning sunday 1210, arriving Inverness at 1315.
We got our flights for £84 rtn and still plenty seats left.
Havent booked accommodation yet but will do that next week.
