RandomGuy got a reaction from Kevin in Killie v Saints 9/4/16
Theres a difference between two three week breaks split either side of a run of games and pre-season training, and a six week break.
People seem to be hugely misinterpreting my point. I want us to qualify for Europe, I want us to be successful, but I dont want to be sitting in ten years talking about great things used to be as we stumble to a draw against Cowdenbeath. Gaining (relative) success has never been a problem for Saints, but we've never once sustained it for as long as we currently are. Its purely my opinion, but I feel like we're in dire need of a Summer to get everyone fit, get the new signings fully integrated into the squad before the new season and try and bring a new batch of regulars through who can play major parts for the next five years.

Im not saying it does, im saying its denied our regular players genuine recovery time.

We've got a small, ageing, injury prone squad thats struggled for 70% of the season and are showing massive signs of wear and tear. We need a massive rebuild. European campaigns are costing the club money, draining the players of recovery time and aren't a draw for potential signings. I'm just saying its not the end of the world if we miss out this year.

Theres a massive difference between Giggs recovering from a niggle surrounded by multiple sports scientists, physios and a recovery gym that costs more than our entire club, than Chris Millar getting over a niggle with one physio and an exercise ball. Its clear hes knackered mentally, and as soon as he feels a twinge or knock he instantly wants off the park.

The fact he never even made the bench highlights the fact his career heres over. Absolutely no idea what it is he's done wrong

RandomGuy got a reaction from Cagey in Alan Mannus: past his best?
His selection is nothing to do with the Euros, his chances of starting for NI is virtually nil regardless of his performances with us due to him pulling out of a squad over a year ago and their manager holding some bizarre grudge over it, so can that complete and utter fallacy stop being trotted out? Its very boring

The standards not higher in this Country, its just higher elsewhere, its utterly pointless suggesting Connolly playing against full backs who'd spent a morning smoking and getting pished is more difficult than MacLean playing against 6ft+ athletes. His achievements elsewhere shouldn't matter either, MacLean played a major part in winning St Johnstone a trophy, Connolly didnt.
As I've said, both can be considered legends, I've no problem with that. You simply can't say Connolly is and MacLean isnt though.

I said Connollys achievements don't match MacLeans, which is something I stand by. You can talk about better players, harder leagues, bigger names all you like but its an undeniable fact. I don't want to make it seem like I'm saying Connolly achieved nothing, or doesnt deserve to be called a legend, but if you want to call him that then you can't exclude MacLean.

Over his entire career he averages a goal every 283 minutes, which is a goal every 3 games. Hardly embarrassing.
In his time with us he averages a goal every 306 minutes, which is a goal every 3.5 games.
FWIW did you think Sheridan was a better striker than MacLean?

Watch MacLean next time he plays with Kane, and you'll see why he plays so much. He completely sacrificed his own performance against Caley instead spending the 90 minutes covering for Kane defensively and instructing him on when to stay/go and where to position himself. Its no coincidence that Kanes improving while being in the same squad as him, similar to how May did the same.
