    New Saints anthem?

A staggeringly ignorant comment. As Saint Jason mentioned above it is not a "Hibs fan song", it was written by American singer-songwriter Steve Earle, which the Proclaimers later covered. They may be Hibs fans but clearly it has nothing to do with them. As for "snore time there", that comment probably says more about you than the song. Nevermind, this does mean I can continue my long-held policy of going indoors at half-time to avoid the usually awful stadium announcements and music. Thank you for giving the song your brief consideration.

    New Saints anthem?

Yes, being Scottish I thought their version would be more appropriate.
  3. With the Ormond singalong day coming up I thought it'd be a good time to raise the idea of a new Saints pre-match anthem. The song is "My Old Friend The Blues" by The Proclaimers (from the Sunshine on Leith album), the lyrics are very fitting and it has an anthemic slow paced "You'll never walk alone" feel to it, particularly towards the end of the song. Here's the song and lyrics, whilst you're listening picture a packed Ormond stand with scarves raised above heads singing along - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ucgUKCeQlwM
  4. Luckily Saints are the best run club in the country, so could probably cope better than most if sponsorship income dropped or disappeared. Geoff has his critics but for as long as he's around we know we have a sound future, which I doubt many clubs in Scotland could say.
  5. Amongst all the panicking and bickering it's nice to read a calmer, more measured response. The part in bold resonates with me a lot. The most successful teams are consistently those who take a longer term approach, select a manager and support him through the highs and lows, and keep faith that the success will come. At the top level in England it's no coincidence that the most successful managers (Wenger and Ferguson) are also the longest serving, and in terms of clubs similar to Saints, Kilmarnock and Hamilton have shown how a longer term approach works. Of course you need the right man in charge to do this, I'm not sure McInnes is that right man but I think he deserves longer than 9 months to prove himself. The club took the risk of appointing an inexperienced manager, they need to take responsibility for that and commit to seeing it through when times are hard. The alternative is to bring in yet another manager, just after the transfer window closes so the players will still be the same until January at least, then begin the process of rebuilding yet another squad. It's this constant rebuilding that's kept us in this league for so long without much progress, so despite the awful recent results I'm hoping we're not heading that way again. If somehow we managed to get in a rock solid defender, who could take over the captaincy, organise the troops and provide some leadership on the pitch (Pressley would be ideal at this point even as a short-term measure) it would significantly enhance morale and performances. Add James and Morris back into the mix and you start to see things could be quickly turned around, though that's all ifs and buts. If no Pressley-like figure comes in then it's up to the players we have to man up, take some responsibility and show some pride in their performance. They did show against Livingston they can do this, so there's still a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel of doom...
  6. Aside from pace, creativity and ability to run with the ball? Being at last night's game you'd have seen him create the opening goal and have a lot to do with our improved second half performance. Also bearing in mind these are his first competitive matches since early March, there should hopefully be further improvement to come. If that's deemed a "waste of a wage" from a "wannabe" then we're all just wasting our time and might as well just call it a day now. I'm genuinely baffled
  7. Fair enough for you to admit it, but given the level of effort and clear determination to turn things around from every player on the pitch tonight, shouting such abuse at Hardie for not making an effort was utterly ridiculous and entirely unhelpful. As was pointed out by a few fans in response, he wasn't so much disinterested as dead on his feet from having run himself into the ground - and I was delighted to see him respond with the gentlemanly "f**k off" it deserved. However on behalf of all players and fans in attendance I accept your regretful apology and look forward to your unwavering positive encouragement for this day forth On the actual performance I'll just back up what others have said, effort was superb (standing ovation to a defeat given the form we're in says it all), performance was improved with work still to do on concentration levels at the back, 2 new signings looked solid throughout, and Samuel & Craig were lively when they came on and should merit a starting place at the weekend. Oddly enough I'm greatly encouraged by tonight despite the defeat, more of the same at the weekend please and the result should hopefully go our way this time.
  8. Right that's it, 4 games in and the season's over, the remaining 32 games are meaningless end-of-season affairs now. Sack the players, sack the manager, sack the coaching staff, sack the catering company, sack the board... etc and so on.
  9. I've joined. Team name - Bayern Bru
  10. As I mentioned in the Livi match thread, there was some utter nonsense being directed at Samuel literally from within 5 minutes of him entering the game. It was only a very small minority behind the goal, but at a place like that every shout is heard by the players, and is completely uncalled for. Samuel looks a promising player and once he's fully fit I'm sure he'll add a lot to the team, but I heard things like "you're a lazy ******* Samuel" and "are you actually playing football today Samuel" every few minutes until he scored (coveniently they went quiet after that). I hope this was a one-off as it really irks me. On a lighter note, it was funny when the County keeper swore at one of his players and one of the ladies behind the goal shouted "watch your language keeper", to which he turned round and apologised :-)
  11. I really don't agree with the need for all the doom and gloom before the league's even kicked off. Obviously there hasn't been a long list of victories in pre-season, but the club specifically chose some harder matches to give a better test. Last week was a disappointment but we rarely do well up there, perhaps went in a little complacent, and the fact we were outplayed and lost will hopefully give the team the necessary kick up the arse to ensure this doesn't happen again on Saturday. We have the best group of players in the division, arguably the strongest since we were relegated, with real competition in every position bar left back. McLean hasn't been convincing but Main will probably only miss the first league game, meaning we're only 1 player short of having everything in place. That's a far better situation than Dundee are in, having lost a number of good players and seemingly have an inferior squad to last season. Add to that a defeat to Alloa in the cup, a lengthy injury list and a trip up to Dingwall themselves on the opening day, our biggest challengers aren't exactly in the best shape. Dunfermline only have 2 strikers on their books, 1 is the manager and he's injured, so just be thankful we're not them Anyway I'm really very confident about this season, I expect a win on Saturday, and this is the team who'll do it: McLean Irvine Ruti McCaffrey Loanee Swankie Hardie Millar Craig Jackson McDonald Bench: Main, Samuel, Sheerin, Holmes, James Also I hope the constant criticism of Samuel from a few up at Dingwall from almost the minute he came on isn't going to be a trend this season. It's extremely tedious, and entirely unfair on someone who hadn't played a competitive game since the end of March. I thought he showed quite a bit of promise for someone who isn't yet fully fit, was being played out of position and scored a good goal. End of essay
  12. I see the official site background is now in blue, looks far better. Glad to see my email worked
  13. I think the site design overall could be improved but is ok. I don't like the colours though, and when the site was relaunched I emailed the club to suggest changing the background to blue so it matches the club colours. Paul said he'd look into it when he met with the web designers to discuss feedback on the site, and see what it looks like in blue. They did ask for feedback on the site so it might be worth sending in a quick email.
  14. Larger image: Don't like it, far too much white. If they'd done this as a gimmicky retro thing for a bit of publicity, going back to colours from years ago to create a bit more interest (like Arsenal did last season) then it might be easier to understand. But since they've just revealed such a fundamental change to the club's traditional colours without any explanation whatsoever, it seems nothing more than yet another PR disaster from the club.
  15. Inbetween lots of letters about the Liverpool v Chelsea game tonight, somehow a debate has kicked off in the football365.com mailbox about whether Saints now have a better support than Chelsea! There was a letter published this morning about it, and my reply was published this afternoon... ------------------- No Idea If This Is True But... Just a quick word to all you wonderful 'life-long' Chelsea fans.... You do realise that Scottish First division St Johnstone took more fans to Hamilton than you took to Newcastle last week? Davy MacDonald ------------------- Chelsea: Less Popular Than St Johnstone Davy McDonald's e-mail was correct in that 3,100 St Johnstone fans (almost the entire regular home support) travelled to Hamilton, and outnumbered the Hamilton fans by about 2:1. Never mind just being a better support than the 'life-long' Chelsea fans, dare I suggest that in relative terms St Johnstone now have the best travelling support in the country? Don, Perth P.S. Is this F365 now officially acknowledging that football does actually exist in Scotland outside of the Premier League? (No - Ed) ------------------- Links: http://www.football365.com/mailbox/story/0,17033,8744_2100190,00.html http://www.football365.com/mailbox/story/0,17033,8744_2100781,00.html
