  1. With all the talk of the 'big' signing being revealed tomorrow, I wanted to have a look at the PFA out of contract players. http://www.thepfa.com/transferlist There are some interesting players in their who, I think, could have fitted in to Scottish football. Obviously some are way out of our wage budget, but if you think of the players we have had recently (Vine, Duberry & Morris for example) that have come from bigger clubs, or at least more wealthy clubs. Surely we could secure a pacey forward that knows the way to goal, McLean can do the hard work of bringing the ball down and being the provider. Anyway have a look at who is out of a club this summer, some are interesting!
  2. Sadly, I have lost all faith in Lomas. Signings are quite exciting but at the same time we could have targeted a pacey winger instead of having 5 senior strikers on board. Saturdays game summed him up really. Tactically the man does not have a clue; we played the 4-5-1 with wingers on opposite sides to their preferred foot ( presuming so they could cut in ) but they were only able to pass the ball back towards the full backs as they were not comfortable of opening up on their weaker foot. We also sat with, in my opinion, 3 defensive midfielders leaving Higgins to knock the ball down to no one, as Hasselbaink was too wide to receive a flick on. Thought Higgins done what he could as is a player that has to play with someone, will never be a lone striker. When Millar came off injured, I would have hoped that May would have came on and we went to a 4-4-2, the boy can score goals clearly, so why not give him a shot up top instead of wasting him out on the wing. Another observation that has been made by many Saints fans I have spoken too, is that we seem to be the worst at attacking set pieces. The ball is always in the air towards the back post and hoped to be headed across, it must be pretty easy for other teams to defend and very predictable. Throw ins, we seem to give the ball away more often than not. Other SPL teams move the ball quickly and take short free kicks, corner and throws to make it harder for teams to become more organised defensively. Another one is the high ball from the back, instead of putting it into our strikers capable feet, we usually lose the ball to the towering centre half. From what I've seen; Aberdeen, Dundee United, Hearts and Hibs, all look prepared and have decent organisation, and these are teams i'd expect Saints to battle well against. This is a moan, but my observations and the others around me agree. This isn't my views from only Saturday, I've been at almost all of the games that Steve Lomas has been in charge.
