  1. Motherwell, Dundee and Saints. I'd fancy Saints to get more points from the top three, while the Dundee game should be at Perth. There is still lots to play for and playing players that are obviously not up to scratch will not happen.
  2. David Wotherspoon does not think he's better than he is. It would be nice if he did, but the complete opposite is closer to the truth.
  3. The suggestion that Tommy Wright is picking a player to help the player get a game for his country is offensive to be honest. Tommy Wright picks players based on who will help Saints win games, whether you disagree with his decision or not, to suggest he has an ulterior motive is bizarre.
  4. It's an international break, get watching.
  5. Tbf, discussing 1970's Brazil in the same breath as Saints performance on Saturday is completely on topic by all accounts.
  6. Discussing the achievements of individual players isn't something you need to be there to see. I know Brazil 1970 achieved more than the current Scotlanf side having not been born to see them. Absolutely nobody is discussing footballing ability, because it's not the be all and end all of legend status. Steven Anderson is not as good a defender as Kernaghan (from what I remember) and Baltacha (from what I've heard) but he's obviously way above them in importance and stature at the club.
  7. The correct answer is either neither or both. We absolutely smashed them and both goals were incredible and helped us win our first trophy. Both legends though.
  8. Him launching Scobbie into the fans after knocking out Luzern, his elbow to Stevie May when Mayzo tried to celebrate with him during the cup final, his completely unnecessary top off celebration against Aberdeen that replicated his cup final celebration. Even his absolutely atrocious penalties are quite endearing. The man is a loose cannon.
  9. If all he had done at Saints was score THAT goal I'd still class him as a legend, however the way he has went about representing Saints on the pitch, ingrained himself in the culture of the club and created countless other magical moments for the fans outwith the cup final means that his place in folklore is assured for evermore. He's genuinely fantastic. <3
  10. Andy Rhodes - We never qualified for the World Cup or Euros at any point of the Ormond era. SLF - Seriously, if a team came and lined up against us with the shape and style of football we played those days we'd take 4 or 5 of them. Look at how Rangers tried to play against us earlier in the season for an example of what we'd do to them. Shibby - Yep, David Hannah's dance at Hamilton midweek was a particular highlight. He's a teddy bear, but we don't care...
  11. They're not facts, they're opinions. The qualifying rounds of the Europa League is simply a rebranding, it's still Europe. And the style of football isn't as swashbuckling now, but that's just because it's evolved, I'd wager a lot of money that any team in the top two leagues would beat the very best of that era if the two styles came up against each other, no matter the technical ability.
  12. If you view football through concrete evidence only then you are doing it wrong. As someone that is around the same age as you, I hate to take the side of the Ormond mafia, but John Connolly is a legend to many people of our age, I've grown up hearing stories about him from my dad, my dads friends and my uncles. The history of the club is important in my eyes and you'd have to be pretty ignorant of it to view John Connolly solely on 10 months managing us.
  13. Wildly off topic, but worth noting we also went on a run of 16/18 and broke our clean sheet record that season with a young Allan McGregor in the sticks. Without that run of form I wonder where we'd be right now?
  14. Biggest away wins, 2 times Partick 0-4 St Johnstone. I miss Firhill for thrills.
  15. It was a ten team league, but we were never actually in much danger of relegation if memory serves me right, lot of damage done when the season was already over. The opposite of papering over the cracks if you will.
  16. I think this is a case of playing the man and not the ball. Connolly is undoubtably a legend, but it's completely fair to suggest his achievements don't match Macca's. Widge's post is far more inflammatory tbf.
  17. With all due respect, I couldn't care less about your failed football career. As Blueheaven alluded to earlier, Maclean is the absolute epitome of what St Johnstone as a club is all about. It's them against us, never say die, sacrifice yourself for the team. My dad grew up in the Ormond era, he holds a special affinity for that team, but this current generation has eclipsed them in St Johnstone folklore, led by Maclean, Anderson, Mackay and, for a short but oh so sweet spell, Stevie May. Steven Maclean is, was and always will be a St Johnstone legend. I don't know why you want to downplay the role he has played in our fine clubs history to be quite honest.
  18. A servant right throughout our best ever period, an absolute psycho who exudes passion, goalscorer in Luzern in front of 1000 Saints fans in the scorching sun and scorer of one of the most important goals in our history. The older generation seem to look back on yesteryear with much greater fondness than the here and now, but this is our golden generation, these players will go down in history. In 50 years fans will talk about Steven Anderson, Steven Maclean and Stevie May. They are legends and will go down as such. There's nothing cheap about how they've managed to reach 'celebrity status.'
  19. Also agree, but Macca is the definition of a streaky player, there's plenty times I've thought he's finished. I also was happy to see him benched yesterday, but that's not to say he's finished imo.
  20. Sentiment is everything. Whether you think he's been ineffectual or not for the last wee while, he's a legend and a 0-3 result at Tynecastly is maybe not the best place to use it to point score against an absolute God.
  21. PC is good btw. Questioning how you can get a white man and a black man mixed up is perfectly acceptable.

    Iwelumo could barely move tbf.

Agree with all of that, but I wouldn't have Sutton on the same level as Parkin, Iwelumo (Scottish cup winner <3) or the other poor strikers we've had recently. I don't think he suits our style of play but almost feel sorry for him, you can tell there is a player there but it's just not worked out for him.
