I quote "Stevie May is the worst striker we've ever signed. No pace, no skill, nothing" "It shows the gulf in class between the SPL and the top two English leagues" "Stevie May will never be a Championship quality striker" etc etc etc. If he had signed for Rotherham, he wouldn't have been forced into playing 90 minutes every game without any proper support from the rest of the team. And no, before the usual 'bitter' comments start, I'm not really fussed, I just thought I'd highlight the ridiculous positive comments Sheff Wed get from people on here, who seem to have suckered some into thinking they're MASSIVE, when they're just an average lower Championship side... Just like us.

A very small handful???!!! According to 90% of the Wendy fans phoning Radio Dee Dar tonight, "Stevie May is rubbish". I admire your confidence about beating us with no problems, but you really do need to score goals to win games. We do usually win at Swillsborough, so I'm pretty confident. Also, no bitterness from this 'Rovrum' fan. There seems to be a lot of Wendy fans talking about us constantly. Anyone would think they fear losing to us more than anything else in life.

Obvously uninformed. If you are going to debate, at least put some thought into it. Mandaric will not spend 1 pence at Hillsborough. It was only the sale of Antonio to Forest, that gave Gray the funds to get May. We are two points behind them after their 'World-beating' start and our slow welcome to a hugely financially competetive league. When the going gets tough, 'Fatty Evans' as you so eloquently (and strangely childishly) described him, will roll his sleeves up and make the players battle their way out of trouble (in his typical Scottish way!), and as long as we are in this league next season, when there are teams with £40M wage bills, compared to our £4M, then we will have been hugely successful.

Absolutely no apologies necessary. I have commented for a long time on threads related to Stevie May, and yes, I do think he would have been better off coming to us. He is the topic of conversation on radio phone-ins regularly down here, but recently, there are a large number of SWFC fans slating him for his performances. I personally admire the player like the way he plays, I just don't think they are benefitting his short or long term career, by how they have managed him. There are recent debates locally about us and them, with a 'derby' game looming, their form dipping, and us improving. It would certainly hurt them badly if we were to turn them over at their place after they lauded it over us for signing May.

I totally agree, and that was my point. Although, I'm not sure why you'd mention two of our squad players, when I have made no slight against the Saints or the SPL. I was simply pointing out feeling amongst the fickle fans of the club your prodigy plays for. I thought it was relevant on a post about that player, responding to other postees slamming our club, while defending a club whose fans are slating May and Scottish football in general.

Hahaa! Not raging. Feel quite smug actually, when I constantly hear the Wendy fans on local radio, moaning about him, saying how he's not good enough, and saying what do they expect when he comes from a 'Mickey Mouse' league. Their decent early form has turned around as expected, and their fans who claimed this year was theirs, have realised it isn't. We have now found our feet, and will finish above them comfortably, as I predicted before the season started.

The league table won't say 'no' for much longer. The knives are already out at Swillsborough. http://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic/218631-stevie-may/ It seems their manager should probably have put the hours of scouting that Steve Evans put in, then maybe he would have known his strengths and how to play him. The problem for him is, that at Wendy, he has no-one helping him, bringing on his game. We have two young, powerful, quick strikers who cost a combined fee less than what we offered for May. They are being integrated slowly, and are being nurtured on the training ground, by the coaching staff, and experienced strikers. May has Nuhiu and Madine. Hardly role models, and neither would get into our first team. That's why we have a player at 20 years old, who could have gone to a higher club, publicly stating how much he's learning, and improving his game, and can come off the bench and score a 25 yard winner against Leeds, while May becomes increasingly the butt of Wendy's ire, both on radio phone-ins and messageboards.

Whilst I had some bitterness about him signing for the massive, I've made a point of looking out for him. His first game on Saturday was followed by a caller to our local radio station slating him saying he was 'out of his depth now he plays in a proper league'. I'm not sure if that was the opinion of just that one fan, but they don't tend to show much intelligence over that way. Let's hope he scores quickly, before the usual fickleness sets in.

If Wednesday can afford to offer him the same wage as us, then he will probably go there. Unfortunately, for no other reason than the size of the club. Although I may be somewhat biased, we would be the better option in solely footballing terms. We have a more experienced and settled management team, we have no boardroom uncertainty, a better 'man for man' squad, momentum, and are likely to have a more successful season than them. Our footballing philosophies would better suit, and Steve Evans probably knows everything there is to know about Stevie May, and how to play him, and how he would fit in with our squad on a personal level. I doubt their 'knee-jerk' offer has been as methodically thought out and researched as our approach. I would like to see him join us, but unfortunately, I think we may have missed the boat.

I must admit, after this week, I wish we'd gone for someone else. I have never known such a transfer fiasco like this one. At the end of the day, Stevie May will go where he wants, and I'm getting past the point of caring, whatever the outcome. Good luck in Europe by the way.

The problems come if Stevie is offered £100k a year to stay or £250k a year at another club, plus £50k signing on fee, and £50k to his management company. Football is about the 'here and now' I'm afraid. There are too many possible eventualities for the involved parties to 'give it another year'. Unless you can afford the risk that is.

I would like nothing more than for us to sign May, for him to make a huge impact, become an international regular, and move on to a good Premiership club for a huge amount of money that would make both us and you financially sound for a good few seasons. If Ross McCormack can go for £11M, then we could be both looking at making serious seven figure profits in the future.

It rarely happens these days. Agents line everything up for potential moves before anything is even agreed. We will know what salary he would expect, and he will already know everything about our club, from the manager down. If he had said, 'Rotherham Utd? No way', then the bartering wouldn't have got this far. The only time things break down, is where there is another offer with more money, and his agent will certainly be trying to bring other clubs on board up to the very last minute. Tens of thousands of pounds in signing on fees, a hefty salary increase and agent fees will ultimately be the primary decision makers in any transfer, once the clubs have agreed the price. Edit:- From our local press Rotherham United are the only club to make a firm offer for striker Stevie May, St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright has revealed. The Saints manager said he was surprised other teams hadn't entered the race for the 21 year old hitman's signature. The Scottish club expect to lose May to the Millers this week but hope he will play in Thursday's Europa League tie against Spartak Trnava before departing.
