Hi guys,

Introducing a new feature to the We Are Perth website - the brand new We Are Perth fanzine - bringing you Saints related comment, analysis, history and comedy - and more.

The new online fanzine - available at http://www.weareperth.co.uk/fanzine or by clicking the new logo above right - hopes to pick up where the previous Saints fanzines - Blue Heaven, Wendy Who? and the like - left off. This new site won't be a daily news source - there's plenty of that from the Official St Johnstone site and Temple of Saints already - but will hopefully offer something a little bit different.

Obviously, being an online fanzine, we won't be restricted to a weekly/monthly/quarterly deadline - so we hope to have several new articles online every week, as well as a couple of regular features.

To kick us off we've got a piece by Stuart Cosgrove on the Trinidadian Devil Birds and why he hates Juventus - http://www.weareperth.co.uk/fanzine/stuart-cosgrove-trinidadian-devil-birds-and-why-i-hate-juventus/ - while Gary Panton has started a series on the Greatest Saints Kits of all time - http://www.weareperth.co.uk/fanzine/the-great-kits-no-1-199697-away-kit/

There's also a round-up of the best of the We Are Perth Forum over the last week - http://www.weareperth.co.uk/fanzine/from-the-forum-cold-weather-club-complaints-and-curry/ - and a look at the best bookies' odds for this weekend's match against Hibs at Easter Road - http://www.weareperth.co.uk/fanzine/saints-v-hibernian-betting-preview/

We also have a series of Muirton Park photos that should hopefully bring back a few memories - see http://www.weareperth.co.uk/fanzine/muirton-memories-picture-gallery-1/

And finally, there's a wee piece with a bit of information about the new fanzine - http://www.weareperth.co.uk/fanzine/?p=198.

On a weekly basis, every Tuesday we'll be bringing you the best of the We Are Perth Forum over the past week, while the day before every Saints game we will bring you the best betting odds from the bookies, if you're that way inclined. Also, we'll be producing a Saints Travel Guide over the coming months, giving you travel information, pre-match drinking options and directions for every ground we are likely to visit.

We've gathered a few top writers to contribute on a semi-regular basis - but of course, if you've got an opinion to share, some stats to dissect, or even something funny to say about anything Saints, or Scottish football, related - drop us a line by clicking here.

We'd also love to have your Saints pics - we've already got a gallery of Muirton Memories from a contributor - and would love to add to that to develop a comprehensive gallery of St Johnstone photos down the years.

I'll be leaving this thread open for comment/debate about the whole thing, and also to post updates when new articles are put online.

Jamie

Hi Jamie

Had a quick look at this - excellent stuff indeed - well done to all concerned. Since the demise of the (brilliant) Blue Heaven, Saints Files, and the fantastic Wendy Who?, there has been a real gap for something like this. Hopefully can complement the WAP forum neatly. The site's well designed, and I;'m really impressed by the opening content - some great pics of our spiritual home (Muirton!) and I loved Soulfoul's article - can completely empathise with that!

Great stuff - and I like the fact there is an RSS feed - means that those of us who use feed readers such as Google Reader will see the updates whnever they happen.

Good luck with this - I look forward to its development

Jim

PS - not sure how many of you subscribe to one of the few fanzines around at the moment on Scottish football - the 12th Man (from www.scotzine.co.uk). Well worth a look - a good article on Saints in the most recent issue and they also produce a weekly podcast - The Terrace (available through iTunes etc.). Would also recommend the recently relaunched www.theawayend.net - another good, weekly podcast from them too - The Away End. All about Scottish footie - and neither of the above are produced from an Old Firm perspective

Good idea but a bit too commercialised for me! Saying that I live and work in ecommerce and affiliate linking so know more about this than most, but I think it is a bit too much about making the owners money rather than anything else.

I considered doing something similar in the past, but thought it bad to use the name of St Johnstone and the naiivity of most fans of how affliliate linking works for profit.

Perhaps there is something you can do where half the profit from the affiliate marketing goes to the youth development or similar?

I actually meant to mention that in the blurb. We don't really make any money as it stands anyway - we basically pay our costs through the ads on the forum. Anything that we make through that will basically go to cover costs (which will no doubt increase hugely with the amount of pictures I plan on hosting...), and anything over and above that we will find a use for - be it sponsoring a player or something else. What I'd really like to do, actually, is invest in a trophy to be presented to the WAP player of the year at the annual awards do!

I don't imagine it will actually make any money to be honest. I don't think it really is over commercialised - only a couple of ads at the side and at the bottom, which are pretty well out of the way and don't interfere at all with the look of the site.

I don't think it's over commercialised at all. To be honest, I hadn't even noticed the ads - just went in again to see what bigstu was referring to. I can happily ignore them and enjoy reading the Saints stuff that's on there.

And....if any additional monies generated can go towards player sponsorship or anything else that supports the club, then all the better

Happy with that. Thought about deleting my initial post as it was not really any of my business anyway. Good work! Stu

How about a photo gallery link, to get all the pics in the one area. I never tire of looking at the old photographs.

I'll put something like that together archiving all the photo galleries. Also going to to something similar with videos for the links that have been posted in the video archive thread here.

Got another couple of articles ready to go for tomorow, Monday and Tuesday, and lots of people interested in writing, so thanks everyone for their support!
